Hello everyone on the Overwatch community, I wanted to make this post trying to put every minor issue within the game altogether so maybe someday developers read it and make better decisions in regardings of this topics (hopefully). I’m making this because I really love this game with it’s highs and downs, but there are some certain things that really bother me and I believe they could be easily fixed or improved.
Firstly, I want to make sure to let you know that all of this are just my words; therefore it’s just based on my personal opinion and criteria, so it doesn’t mean that my way of seeing things is the absolute correct one or whatever. Feel free to leave your opinion too and to post anything else that you would like to see added into the game or fixed.
Secondly, I’m gonna try my best to make all of this as clear as I possibly can, including links, screenshots and video footage explaining this issues so anyone reading has a better understanding of this topics, while keeping it updated when I feel I can add something else. This means, the links will be changed with the actual images they link to once I get the required trust level (hopefully soon). Anyways, let’s get started.
1. Hud customization and colors
Click to Open
This is very silly but nonetheless somehow important. The color blind options let us change the hud, allies and enemy outline colors, but the colors are very limited. This are the current colors we have available:
https://imgur.com/a/QE3pp3B
As you can see, we’re lacking some important colors for customization, for example, white. More colors would be very much appreciated. Also, another neat feature would be being able to change the color from effects too. This is a very annoying issue within the game because when we change the colors to, for example, green; the shields, Mei walls and other vissual effects like Genji’s blade stay blue or red or whatever color it is by default, which can be really annoying and do more damage to color blind people than actually helping them, because there are more colors and make it messy and scuffed. Here’s an example:
https://imgur.com/a/sstPIKR
If you change your HUD color to light blue and keep the enemy team by default, when watching a replay you have the possibility of having 2 blue teams which can be really confusing:
https://imgur.com/5jgV6lK
All of this could easily be fixed by adding another option for this visual effect colors, to be just like in Overwatch League, and more individual customization is always appreciated by everyone, and in this situation it would be harmless because changing your settings doesn’t affect anyone else
https://imgur.com/a/WumniRq
Furthermore, we can’t resize the HUD to a custom size and this option would be nice to have, as well as hiding certain HUD elements to personal preference to don’t have so many things on the screen.
We also want a better, improved alternative scoreboard that shows stats for all the teammates / additional information (maybe toggled by rightclicking when pressing tab).
FPS, Latency and other info shown on the left top screen not being consistent / steady / having the same HUD with the time shown on the right top screen:

When joining a community server with lots of players and pressing P to see the players, they don’t fit and it bugs out. This should be improved.

2. Better practice range and a better tutorial for each hero
Click to Open
Time has passed and the game has evolved, but some things remain the same. The community has made some workshop codes that make the practice range better by including some important features. I’m certain everyone would love having this features in the practice range by default, maybe by making a new map with a ton more of space and trying to add this features. Here’s a link to how this improved workshop practice range looks and taking a quick look will let you know what I’m talking about.
Additionally, the dummy bot is just standing still there by default, and even though it’s a great feature, it could be improved by giving more options for the dummy bot, like following a route or movement, attacking you or not, supports healing you, and more options that could make a greater experience.
https://imgur.com/a/y9MrOu5
There are also a few minor bugs in the practice range, like Sombra being able to see ally bots health bars when they’re below 50% and training bots killfeed not showing up since an update last year (this last thing really bothers me). Besides that, stats like damage dealt or kills don’t show up which is another minor inconvenience. Being “on fire” is also a neat feature that somehow doesn’t apply to this mode and would be nice having.
https://imgur.com/a/fqRqe8J
Besides that, the current tutorial is great and shows very well the basics of Overwatch. However, I believe that new players would welcome a “tutorial mode” for each hero. Pressing F1 provides a lot of information and video footage:
https://imgur.com/a/yQXFFN3
It is very welcoming; but the videos are visually outdated, and this is a videogame thus “experiencing” the tutorial for each hero would be more fun and instructive. Again, I insist that this is just my opinion and some people may agree or disagree with it. I like to believe that this features, even though making the game somehow bigger and taking more space, would be very nice for the game and would improve it, also making the experience more fun and friendly for beginners.
3. Skin updates

We love skins and a lot of people have ideas for new ones. There’s a lot of skilled artists doing amazing jobs that honestly and let’s face it, are so cool that it’s a pitty they don’t make it into the game.
https://imgur.com/a/UMNNpqY
Plus, some skins should get a visual rework or update for the tiny details. I don’t know why Blizzard doesn’t like doing this (example being Baptiste’s Disco lamp), but updating some skins would make them 100 times better. Only a very, very few legendary skins have unique voice lines or effects, like Baihu Genji or Okami Hanzo.
https://imgur.com/a/V6cg26f
More of this would be great and it could be done by just updating some of the current skins to have unique voice lines or effects. For example, a red dragonblade for Blackwatch Benji and Oni skin, new Scuba Sigma skin having a water cyclone effect for his ultimate, or Beekeeper Mei saying something like “Bees, don’t move!”
https://imgur.com/a/kl7CdgP
Another thing is to bring some custom voice lines (for example, Blackwatch Reyes whole voice lines) into the actual skin so it becomes more unique in-game. This voice lines could also be added to his Soldier: 24 skin. It’s a real shame this voice lines are only available when you play the Archives event with Reaper and aren’t on his actual human skins.
This are just a few examples of the true potential updating skins have. Some of them can be improved so much and it’s a real shame they don’t do it. They could also make more skin variants with customization options like “helmet off / on, Mercy’s wing colors” and so on, there’s so many skin customization potential unused.
Skins shouldn’t be only event-limited or from OWL. We want more variety overall.
(Controversial) Skins can be limited-time but they should all come back available sooner or later for those players that lost their chance on getting them.
4. Enhanced player icons
Click to Open
We love using skins and seeing their little custom icon on the bottom left.
https://imgur.com/a/dNiSO1v
However, when we press tab, the skins are gone!
https://imgur.com/p7nTqmK
This is most possibly done due to consistency and making the game visually apealing, but having visually skins would be nice and everyone could see what skin you’re using with a glance. For people that don’t like it, this could be solved by adding an option to “not see skins on scoreboard” or whatever you want to call it. Everyone wins!
With the same idea, seeing skins in the voice chat icons and the killfeed would be very nice too. Plus, this is already within the game as we could see how this looks in the Archives event with Overwatch: Retribution. Here’s how cool it looks:
https://imgur.com/a/7HIV4Pw
It would be nice if skins were shown at the hero cards at the end of a match too:
https://imgur.com/a/q25JR9V
Also, with the upcoming OW2 we know we will have new player frames.
This is nice and we will love it, but please give players the ability of changing their frame. If you unlock them, why not give players the ability to change them to their liking?
https://imgur.com/a/TgDBVFb
Furthermore, it’s weird that skins don’t show up on official OWL streams but they do on the spectator feature. Here’s what I mean:
https://imgur.com/a/QaJuTDH
Pharah’s helmet not showing on the player icon is a thing that bothers some people. Make it customizable, maybe adding customizable options for each hero skin’s player icon or just by adding custom skin options like I mentioned before and the player icon showing what option you’ve chosen.
5. Improved hero gallery features & menu ideas
Click to Open
- Showing at the hero gallery a special border for those heroes you’ve unlocked everything for:
https://imgur.com/a/9gf4Iss
- Being able to change skins on the fly during a match, even if it’s just in spawn room waiting on respawn, or just being able to change skins anytime without a time limit.
- Being able to open “Hero Gallery” from anywhere so it acts like an “Inventory” (similar to CS:GO).
- Showing a golden badge on your profile page for when you’ve completed all of the 154 current achievements or some kind of upgradable badge for it.
- Showing skins equipped at the stat menus for each player and hero (instead of the default ones). This will give more customization and being able to see what other players are using as their skin.
- Being able to zoom in at the skins in the hero gallery.
- User named Atmos suggested being able to open multiple loot boxes at a single time:
- A user named LoveLess had the idea of a darkmode to help our eyes not getting hurt and being able to choose if the map is going to be night / day:
6. Workshop ideas
Click to Open
- Workshop remembering your last used workshop code so you don’t have to type it again.
- A list of useful Workshop codes shown by default as the user Vilkath said below in this thread.
- A built-in map creator with tools in the Workshop.
- An option to toggle hitbox visibility of the heroes and a separate additional option for hitboxes of abilities.
- Devs implementing custom gamemodes into Arcade / polishing custom gamemodes to make them even cooler and new Arcade minigames. For example, I made this workshop game, and they could keep games like this in mind for creating new polished Arcade minigames:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wVqqYntu3o&ab_channel=Malxer
7. Additional improvements
Click to Open
- I’d personally would LOVE to see more Tank and Support heroes since there are currently 32 heroes in the game out of which there are 8 Tanks, 7 Supports and 17 DPS with the new confirmed hero being another DPS.
- Tons of new in-game lore for each hero.
- There’s some people that have released awesome new hero concepts like this youtube videos (they have created tons of long playlists with lots of them if you’re interested) and it’s a shame that Blizzard doesn’t even considers their ideas or at least say something about them because they’ve put a lot of work and effort into awesome designs that could be simply made into the game:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFvNTr6ZWtg&ab_channel=MasterIanGamer
- Ian has also made a video about the “content” we’ve been getting in Overwatch the last year and a half since OW2 has been in development, why people have stopped playing the game and what’s going on overall, it’s worth listening to him:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddnnx8B_CKY&ab_channel=MasterIanGamer
- A youtuber named Stylosa made a very complete video showing some other major issues that should be considered too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM2I6U6oGCw&ab_channel=Stylosa
- A user named Stormhorizon had the great idea of custom Overtime music themes for each map:
A Unique Overtime Theme For Each Map?
- A user named Senior had the idea for killing sound effects (like double kill, triple kill) to don’t have a timer so it feels more rewarding:
Double Kill Voice Line Timer in OW
- A user named Zunlite suggested the idea of showing direct hits as “red” in the killfeed, as it happens with headshots (for example, doomfist ult direct impact, soldier’s secondary, pharah and junkrat’s primaries, and so on)
Direct hit kills should count as headshots
- Minor bugs that are really annoying
- Achievement overhaul for some heroes. Some heroes used to have very easy achievements that have turned into absolute impossible new ones since they had a rework, like Hanzo pixel spray. Idea: rework them so they’re not so hard to get. Also some achievements like Doomfist & Baptiste cute sprays are near impossible to obtain.
- Improving the UI numbers to match the japanes font numbers
Overwatch Japanese Font Numbers
- Map select menu / voting system. Or something like CS:GO has were you can choose the map before searching for a game.
- Ready check for competitive (like CS:GO has), to avoid people being AFK.
- Being able to see other people’s crosshairs and copying their settings / sharing crosshair codes, like CS:GO and Valorant have.
- Showing what members are in a squad in the “groups” tab.
- A rework for 2CP spawn distances instead of completely removing the gamemode.
- Being able to toggle between 3rd person view and 1st person view with spacebar while spectating an ally while dead.
- Adding grunt sounds for each Winston voice line when he’s ulting (he already does this with one specific voice line, but it will be nice if he did with every single one)
- An option to tune down visual effects to reduce visual clutter (sticky bombs, venom mine for example stuff that takes too much space on the screen)
- Adding a proper “global stats” page with all the hero’s rating across all ranks, their winrates and more. A better Overbuff but actually inside the game and with more info.
- Adding some sort of minimap inside the replays that you can draw into, could be useful to some people and coaches to use different colors and draw paths or just mess around. Also giving players the ability to join a lobby to spectate together and the owner is the one controlling the replay and could coach the rest. This would be ideal for upcoming pro teams on new leagues if they haven’t given up with pioneer esports teams.
8. Final thoughts
Okay, that’s all of the minor issues I could think of. There are a lot of other issues but since we can consider them major issues like bugs and exploits that players have already reported to Blizzard I’m not including them. So this are all of the little things I could think of.
Additionally, I have to say that I LOVE Overwatch and if I criticize it it’s not because I hate it or whatever. If I’m so nitpicky and try to give so much feedback is only because I want the game to become absolutely extraordinary.
There are a few things that keep me worried for OW2:
Please leave your opinions and add whatever you guys feel should be updated in the game.
Have a nice day!
