I started this post a week ago in response to the soar 30% nerf. As you can see, the community has exploded on the GD, as well as, the alpha forum channel and many alpha testers have been providing great video feedback on how it feels currently.

The maximum speed for Soar, the Dracthyr racial ability, has been reduced on the Dragonflight Alpha and Soul and Maximum have made some comparisons of the ability from before and after the nerf. See what that looks like!

Has anyone even given a good reason Soaring really fast is OP and broken other than “because my class can’t” or “because it is” I’m not sure how traversing the old world and fast speeds is a problem at all. Blizzard I read your reasoning and I fail to see how Soar’s original speed entailed any advantage whatsoever. It’s old content we’re talking about, not new current endgame. Druids can instantly fly and herb and have increased speed in instances, Mages can cast teleport/portal spells, Humans always reach first to Exalted compared to the rest of the races …
As I’m not in the Alpha and I cannot directly interface with the devs, I’ll do so here.
This seems like a pointless nerf. Not only is this an extremely unnecessary change, but a lot of the reasons cited are contradictory explicitly throughout the history of the game. The fact that it’s even on a 5 minute cooldown is a bit staggering, considering it’s supposed to emulate dragon riding, we can place it’s value the same as a standard mount.

The change was entirely unnecessary and is hated by nearly every single tester, they claimed it gave Dracthyr an advantage in empty zones yet not a single person can say what that advantage actually is.
They nerfed it to intentionally slow down the game and force players to stay online longer, this exact same philosophy that caused Shadowland…
How would you feel if Blizzard decided to change your Teleport/Portals so they’re on a 5 minute cooldown and have a chance of just completely not working out how you planned leaving you a couple metres from where you were? Oh and best part you’d then be forced to wait 5 whole minutes before you can try again you know because fairness
Do you care if someone can outspeed you in irrelevant content every 5 minutes because of their class?
If so, do you care that Mages can do accomplish much the same thing, much more efficiently, with no cooldown?
Things can be fun, i’m just trying to remain within the realm of reason with my requests. Do i think having soar everywhere would be fun? Yes. Do i think they’d ever go for that? No, not really, and i understand why that is.
So i come in with the attitude of compromise. Right now, it would be within the realm of reason to just ask for it to have no cooldown in dragonflight areas. The next level up would be to ask for it to work off the vigor system like the mounts.

I believe that mages’ ability to create Portals to various locations all over the world creates a drastic efficiency advantage over characters of other classes when playing the game, whether that’s Chromie Time quests, clearing old raids for transmog, pet battling, etc.
In line with the philosophy for nerfing Dracthyr’s Soar, this ability should be removed from the game, as the knowledge that mages are no longer “blitzing across continents” will allow me to have more fun on my monk.

There’s no reason at all to maintain a cooldown of 5 minutes for a nerfed ability.
Worgen don’t have to wait 5 minutes to use their Running Wild ability.
Druids don’t have to wait 5 minutes to use their instant cast Flying form ability.
Mages don’t have to wait 5 minutes to use their teleport/portal spells.
When are you going to stop being arrogant SoB’s and admit you are wrong? Its exactly what they did with the Shadowlands Alpha. Torghast was so much fun in testing, people loved it but slowly Blizzard tweaked and nerfed and added and now we have a mess that people will do anything to avoid.
Thats whats happening to Dragonriding in Dragonflight, by the time it launches itll be so hated that we’ll all just be begging for Pathfinder to come back and give us the same boring flight mechanic from 20 years ago.
There’s zero reason to have reduced the flying speed of Dracthyr. The expansion is literally called Dragonflight. Stop trying to tell the players what’s fun or fair.
This overthinking is what has ruined WoW so much.

Blizzard please, all we ever wanted was to freely fly with our own wings without having to wait 5 minutes each time. If you’re not going to reconsider unnerfing Soar or reducing its cooldown, could you please give us a “Running Wild” ability, where we just fly with our wings with normal flying, wherever flying is enabled?

I want Evoker to succeed and be a full on blast.
Once dragon riding is fully cemented in as a wow feature moving forward, my next ask would be to extend the momentum feature to druids and demon hunters.

Evoker is 100% going to fail because it can only soar at twice the speed of an epic mount instead of 3 times as fast.
