#PullTheRipcord

For people unaware - ‘Pulling the ripcord’ was a comment used by Ion Hazzikostas with his interview with preach as the fallback plan for covenants if the systems aren’t well received. It would involve opening the systems up to (hopefully) allow swapping powers freely and not having punishing systems involved for wanting to experiment

This is about trying to get Blizzard to remember what the original vision for the game was for.

As Tom Chilton said during Blizzcast episode 2:
If you’re doing kind of high-end Arenas, high-end raiding, that kind of thing. Because we do want to encourage players to be able to enjoy a variety of different elements of the game.

https://web.archive.org/web/20080403205555/http://us.blizzard.com/blizzcast/archive/episode2.xml

This is not to be able to swap freely behind covenants, this is to have abilities unchained from covenants.

Ransoming power behind covenants does not encourage anyone to try more content. If you were looking to partake in a running race but got told you were starting 50 metres behind the starting line would you join in?

Blizzard asked for Feedback and it’s time we give them some.

Current System:

  1. Some people pick covenants based off power
  2. Some poeple pick covenants for other reasons

Proposed System:

  1. Everyone picks based off what they like the look of.

Which has a more meaningful choice?

We’ve got clear evidence that a large majority of players pick the strongest covenant, meaningful choice was just a PR spin to try to peddle an idea that has no realistic grounding in a MMORPG.

Warcraftlogs lets you filter by covenants.

For Mythic Sire logged kills for Boomkin as of 6/5/2021 the numbers are below.

Night fae:
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/26#boss=2407&class=Druid&spec=Balance&covenant=3
Top 3 Parses:

  1. 7939
  2. 7892
  3. 7779

Kyrian:
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/26#boss=2407&class=Druid&spec=Balance&covenant=1
Top 3 Parses:

  1. 6425
  2. 5935
  3. 5736

Venthyr:
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/26#boss=2407&class=Druid&spec=Balance&covenant=2
Top 3 Parses:

  1. 5266.20
  2. 1833.7 (buyer?)
  3. doesn’t exist because theres only 2 recorded kills in the world LOL

Necrolord:
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/26#boss=2407&class=Druid&spec=Balance&covenant=4
Top 3 Parses:

  1. 5259
  2. 3800
  3. 1634.70 (buyer?)

So, to summarise. Out of 3125 Kills of Mythic Sire, there are 8 Kyrian kills, 2 Venthyr, 3 Necrolord and 3112 Night Fae Logs. I know what some of you may be thinking - Druids are close to nature so Night Fae makes sense, This might be the case for a small portion of the mythic logs so we can look at another example.

For Mythic Sire logged kills for Affliction Warlock as of 10/5/2021 the numbers are below.

Night Fae:
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/26/#boss=2407&class=Warlock&spec=Affliction&covenant=3
Top 3 Parses:

  1. 9117
  2. 8971
  3. 8818

Kyrian:
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/26/#boss=2407&class=Warlock&spec=Affliction&covenant=1
Top 3 Parses:

  1. 7981
  2. 7510
  3. 7414

Venthyr:
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/26/#boss=2407&class=Warlock&spec=Affliction&covenant=2
Top 3 Parses:

  1. 8038
  2. 7422
  3. 6556

Necrolord:
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/26/#boss=2407&class=Warlock&spec=Affliction&covenant=4
Top 3 Parses:

  1. 6816
  2. 6320
  3. 6315

Out of 2457 Kills of Mythic Sire, there are 153 Kyrian, 13 Venthyr, 8 Necrolord and 2283 Night Fae logs. I’m not sure I would call Night Fae the covenant with the strongest connection to Warlocks.

What does this hashtag exactly mean?

As I understand it, Ion said they were sticking with the current iteration of Covenants (as far as changing them goes) but they had a “ripcord” ready if it didn’t turn out as well as they hoped. The hashtag is people hoping to get it pulled sooner rather than later.

Fair enough, thank you for this information.

What exactly are they “hoping” for? Players not caring about the numbers in a game fueled by numbers?

Don’t lock player power behind what should be a cosmetic choice!

This will affect everyone adversely at some point in the game!
