All those people who say: “You don’t really want Vanilla WoW. You are looking at it with rose tented glasses!” Are RIGHT about you guys freaking out over 1.12 AV.
Pre-nerf AV IS something unique.
Pre-nerf AV IS much more difficult to win.
Pre-nerf AV IS full of things you will never see in modern WoW. (mines/Korak)
What you forget is…
Pre-nerf AV IS severely imbalanced.
Pre-nerf AV IS incredibly frustrating.
Pre-nerf AV IS a waste of time for PVP’rs after exalted.
The reality is that AV …
1.12 is following the #nochanges philosophy perfectly.
If you want changes, go play retail.
Because you wanting 1.5 or 1.7 AV is no different than people wanting [insert change X here]
We can essentially play 1.12 AV right now on retail, and have been able to for over a decade. Why are you giving us this version of AV and not the true classic version?
I don’t understand, the people who DON’T want long epic games have retail WoW av for that, the people who WANT long epic games have nothing, and never will have anything. Why can’t you give us the version that was in for the majority of vanilla? Why are you settling for a version that’s essentially been around for over a decade? …
Title says it all. When people think of classic AV they think of the original model with the weekend long matches, not the 1.12 model that the retail version is based on. AV is the main reason (along with massive WPvP) that I have been looking forward to classic. I am all for releasing the content in historically correct patches, but when it comes to AV, PLEASE consider using the original model.
There are two hard chokepoints on the map:
IBGY / Galv
Defending those points, even lightly, stops the race. We were routinely stifled by the Horde in Vanilla 1.12 and will be again…
If they want to defend.
1.12 AV is what you make of it. You want an epic turtle? Make one.
1.5 AV was a huge lengthy fight because of NPC’s, not necessarily PvP. It was quickly changed because players did not like it, remember? I have great memories from these wars, they were huge and endless, but …
I want to express my content that 1.12 is the version of AV that we’re getting, given there are numerous threads here and on Reddit bashing the decision.
It appears to me that a common argument for wanting the pre-1.12 AV is that some players want to experience the ‘old days’ of day long AV matches (or longer). I can see why some would want to - there’s a certain attraction to being involved in “epic battles”, where some players have said that they want to feel like they’re really contributing …
The Classic team has done a lot of great things, especially moving from 4 to 6 content release cycles. 1.12 AV works, it is just slightly inferior. So I’m not going to pretend that the world is ending. Anticipation for Classic is my life right now.
The annoying part is that as a developer I can picture why they would go with 1.12 AV: it’s part of the 1.12 package, it’s source-controlled to work properly with everything else, and tampering with that would introduce possible bugs or unknown varia…
I’ve been on the Classic train for years now, and have been fully hyped since it was announced over a year ago. Having Old AV was probably the thing I was the most stoked for in Classic. It was the defining MMO trait of the original game that captivated people for hours, and even days at a time. It mirrored a true great battle. It’s like leaving the Bowser’s Castle out of a Super Mario game.
With the announcement of having 1.12 AV, I find a good portion of my excitement gone. And I can’t find a…
Part of the charm of Vanilla was the old, awesome version of Alterac Valley. The fact that we aren’t getting that version and the fact that phasing/sharding will be a regular part of Classic makes me think this will end up not being worthwhile.
This video pretty much explains it perfectly. This is a very educational video for all the people who never even played original AV and I highly recommend you watch it before continuing to give your opinion on if 1.12 AV is the right move or not.
I also would really appreciate it if Blizzard watched this so they can hear why people want earlier versions of AV so badly.
Why are people surprised? I don’t understand what people are gnashing their teeth over.
You think it’s cute that you just say “gross” to bone chips, but it’s not.
Vanilla AV was the best AV and one of the only reasons I was excited for Classic WOW. This is not classic this is a monster hybrid that you’re making to run on your cloud service.
This is unfortunate and clearly not being made for the players.
If we go with 1.12 AV, we will be missing out on the content, that for many of us, created some of our most epic in-game experiences. This is why we see all the QQ here.
People who were there remember how much fun AV could be and how much of that was lost by the end.
I do remember the AV nerfs and how by 1.12 it was basically just a series of PVE speed runs for quick rep rewards.
I do want a chance to re-experience earlier AV versions. Blizzard has asked for feedback, so here I am.
Oct. 2006, which is the AV we’ll be getting:
The AV you know and love will not exist in classic.
There’s been so much back and forth about this, but one thing doesn’t make sense.
You have one side who wants 1.5 or some earlier version of AV - citing the quests and all that stuff. Then you have the other side who want 1.12 - citing it’ll be a zerg anyway.
First off, let me say, that it make SENSE that Blizzard go with 1.12. It’ll be easiest. However, my question is to the 1.12 crowd, if any version of AV will be a zerg anyway, why care what version we get?
It all seems to be a discussi…
God I can’t wait for that. Finish AV rep in one day. Never go back. I’m freaking pumped.
Not gonna happen lol. I was one of those people afk in the cave over night with a jump macro every 10 seconds. And it still took me a while.
Worried about boring pvp-less Zerg fests in AV?
I Pledge to #StopTheZerg.
Long live the Turtles, the Epic Battles, the Carnage. May your base be carpeted with the bones of your enemies. The Glory that comes from surprising a Zerg and wiping them in your base is unmatched.
Stop the Zerg!
Farm those HKs!
Change the Meta!
You have the power!
The current WoW dev team has almost zero of the original vanilla developers. They also ruined their game to the point where people screamed, cried, and petitioned for classic. BFA is the worst WoW expac to date, relying on a cash shop for it’s revenue stream and not monthly subs.
Blizzard has proved they don’t know anything about making a good MMORPG post classic, Classic is OUR game not THEIRS. It’s meant to be a a showcase of the classic Vanilla experience. The grueling, grindy, slow one. A …

Do you hate that we’re getting 1.12 AV? Do you want an endless battle?
Are you super, super cerial?
Well I’ve got great news! There’s an undecided part of the release schedule that can give you exactly what you want, at least for a limited time! (1.5 AV also existed for a limited time)
Let’s encourage the Classic team to release honor before they release battlegrounds! That way you can experience your endless battles at SS/TM and you can die to enemy NPC guards to your heart’s desire!
and another one
Yeah, just here to voice my opinion since apparently it matters (I don’t think it does). Did plenty of pvping back in Vanilla and hit rank 14. Definitely don’t want cross-server BG’s as I think growing community within your own realm is important and keeps the stakes higher. Also, I would love to see a harder AV with more npcs and taking more coordination on all fronts. If you want a quick pvp, I always thought that was what WSG and AB were for. AV was for a sense of an actual battle with anothe…

erage item level mechanic in modern WoW. I’m really looking forward to classic itemization again!
