The forums are suddenly flooded with claims that DPS are clamoring for Baptiste nerfs. But that’s all they are: baseless claims.
The great ‘nerf Baptiste’ epidemic of 2019 is a complete fabrication to villainize DPS players, presumably as payback for the Moira nerf. Don’t buy into it, people. Think for yourselves. How many nerf Baptiste posts do you actually see?
Personally, I’ve seen one. In fact out of curiosity I did a search, and for that one ‘Baptiste is OP’ thread I found 5 other threads claiming that DPS are begging for Baptiste nerfs. Really disappointing actually.
And while a few more ‘nerf Baptiste’ threads surely exist out there, their quantity no doubt pales in comparison to that of the ‘nerf Hanzo, Mei and Reaper’ threads.
I think Baptiste is a bit strong, but obviously the DPS mains go with crowd mentality (if a few people say something they’ll agree, however uninformed they are). Stylosa is only popular because of his tedious over analysed, and he’s desperate to become a mainstream OW youtuber like Your Overwatch, and so he tried to talk about balance.
You guys are making your own boogeyman because you’re all repeating the same thing, regardless of whether it’s true or not.
This is just from a quick search. All these people claiming Baptiste is being witchhunted. Now I challenge someone to show me how many topics are literally asking for him to be nerfed. Not topics simply discussing Baptiste compared to Soldier or showing the video with Baptiste breaking barriers.

its pretty true honestly. the playerbase is divided between a group of players that stick to mercy/moira/brig/mei/symm who want the game to be one way, and everyone else who want the game to be another way.
unfortunately for everyone, blizzard tries to keep both groups happy. when its not possible. either the game is balanced, or it isnt.
Yes, I read your whole post. Yes, you implemented some arbitrary standard to make your argument look better by saying “b-but not ones that use the shield video!”. However, the clickbait youtuber link And saying “how is this okay??? Wat???” Is sufficient enough that people’s gears are going to turn towards a nerf. It’s a loaded topic.
We can all pretend to stick our heads in the sand, but it’s almost like there’s more “baptiste is fine” topics because this “baptiste is not fine” movement is largely borne out of one of the most ridiculous bandwagons I’ve seen here and that baptiste’s damage is, well, fine. Not to mention that these forums are not the only place where overwatch is discussed. Look at Twitter. Reddit. YouTube.
Terrible DPS players always call for nerfs to any support that beats them. They don’t realize it’s because they themselves are bad and need to get better - but that’s human nature I guess - to blame others.
It’s posts like these that make me feel less sorry for long DPS queue times. It’s a shame because not all of them are bad, but Jesus DPS players come off as the whiniest bunch ever.
Sorry, people complaining about Baptiste immortality field(has zero to do with the recent buff that’s being discussed) and people simply linking a video does not = “nerf Baptiste” or “Baptiste is overpowered”. You have four legitimate examples.
We know what a real witchhunt looks like. When it’s an overwhelming demand day after day with multiple topics flat out, not insinuating, not discussing the character’s power, not comparing them to other characters, but flat out saying that this character needs to be nerfed.
What’s happening now is what’s happening with basically any type of character. Some people are going to disagree, you’re going to have that handful of people that think Tracer/Genji/Bastion/Pharah are too strong even when all the evidence points otherwise.
You have people overwhelmingly pushing back on the very few people who have actually called him overpowered. It’s far more people trying to say there’s some non-existant witch hunt than you have people actually complaining. It’s comical to try to say otherwise.
Well first it was Mercy, then Ana, then Mercy again, then Lucio, then Zen, then more Mercy just to be sure. Then Brig, then Moira, now Baptiste.
DPS mains have continually clamored for a support nerfs.
Look at the wild statements such as healing creep. And I will admit there has been some healing creep, but more healing nerfs have happened.
Damage creep though, is everywhere. Especially in the damage hero area where of course the largest pool of heroes resides. Yet, the cries for nerfing healing are bellowed.
And with that comes the selective nerf calls for a specific support. It’s always the support that is either or about to be meta.
Next patch, the support with the most possible healing is Baptiste (never mind it is calculated on 100% healing accuracy and the AoE hitting 5…).
I am not surprised the nerf Baptiste videos and threads have begun.
They wanted it removed or reworked; they considered it problematic enough that they would reduce the power of his kit.

It does with a Clickbait thread and video title and a clickbait thumbnail. That would be why, overwhelmingly, people in the replies discuss nerfs rather than buffs.
This topic has blown up largely due to a singular, biased, vacuum-based video clip. I’d say the lack of legitimacy and the fact that the stats do not correlate to their vacuum example at all is enough to indicate that this whole thing is a farce–which some people are going to call a witch hunt.

We’re talking about his gun, which is the current relevant topic. People have always complained about his lamp, Genji deflect, Bastion dps, etc.
Discussion in itself is not a witch hunt. The person posted the video(which is indeed clickbait) and overwhelmingly people have said that the barrier busting does not make him a DPS. The problem is people conflate the discussion of Bap capabilities vs Soldier capabilities and automatically assume that means people are calling for hard nerfs.
When many people in fact are saying it shows how weak Soldier is or are just relating it to an overall discussion of power creep which effects everyone. It’s just nonsensical to me to say that any discussion or any comparison of characters is an outright call for one character to win or lose(be nerfed).
The one forum post doesn’t compare to the mountain of people claiming Baptiste is being witch hunted. The overall forum consense(even among DPS player) has not been “BAPTISTE IS OVERPOWERED AND NEEDS NERFED111!!!111”.
In the very few threads where people have claimed Baptiste’s gun is overpowered people are getting the smallest amount of likes I’ve ever seen for a “witch hunt” thread. I want people to go look at Moira threads, Doom threads, Brigitte threads at her height and tell me they’re the same.
