I have about 6 wow accounts in total, only one of which I use for Classic. I have the original collector’s edition for TBC registered on my battle.net account but on a different wow account from the one I use today for classic.
I have a Naxx geared level 60 Druid I intended to main in TBC as well as a 6 month sub already purchased intended for TBC. I did all of this before knowing about the netherwhelp being gated to the one account.
I feel as though I’m being robbed of something that is mine because of technicalities. I’ve been looking forward to TBC for years and when I heard I could use my Netherwhelp I was beyond ecstatic.
I’m feeling extremely sour over this. Is there any way to escalate this issue? I would be fine with having my main character transferred to the other account, or have the CE somehow transferred to my current account.
The purpose of this thread is to bring attention to this unique, but very upsetting issue in hopes there can be some nugget of hope for me to be able to use my Netherwhelp in TBC Classic that meant so much to me when I was a teenager first getting into WoW.
I read a Blue post that says its possible to move a license from one account to another.
However, my thread I created doesn’t give me much hope of that being the case.
I have submitted a ticket and here is the response I have gotten so far:
GM Response: In order to get the quest for the Netherwhelp pet in Classic TBC, the account that the character is on must be the one that has the Standard TBC Collector’s Edition claimed. In cases where someone may have multiple WoW games and they don’t have it on that one, then the option will not be there. As this is working as designed, we woudln’t be able to grant that quest to any character on the other WoW games that you may play.
I’m just posting in support of the OP, I am in the same exact situation and was told the same thing when I reached out to CS. I really feel there should be a way for CS to honor or move the pet as it’s so old at this point and as a long time player it really stings. I understand there reasoning to do this is it’s how pets worked in Vanilla however times have changed and it feels like it punishes players like myself and the OP. I transferred my old main character with the whelp back in 08 to my current license and that was a good fix at the time. Never did I think in 2021 I would be in this situation right now. I don’t think myself or the OP having a pet that we own would break the game in any capacity.
Also in the thread about moving Licenses I was the Draenei that asked if it could be done and when I reached out support would unfortunately not do it. I think removing it from one acc to another with enough proof of ownership should be a viable option.
Maybe this situation isn’t as rare as I thought. I just want to bring awareness to this issue because as a player since 2006, it really hurts to not be able to claim my Netherwhelp over this.
Absolutely, I’m sure for the most part it’s pretty rare but the way it’s designed right now and being handled feels like a way to try and get people to open two subscriptions who may have done this which feels unacceptable if someone decided to open a new wow license since TBC considering it’s been 13 years.
Not sure how relevant this is and if I can post this but a month ago I made a feedback video about how I felt on the situation www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxzWf7FmYl0&t= . The way the policy is written in the support page on this I think really devalues how much people care about their old CE pets. These things were a huge part for many of us back in TBC Classic or WOTLK
Thank you so much it’s a video I did not want to have to do but felt like I had to when I first opened my ticket a month or two ago. I really hope this is something that can get resolved for all of us in the future. I will post updates and information as I receive it as well!
Wait a minute, it said if the item had never been added to a collection. I have one of my netherwhelps in the bank on one of my retail characters, can I get that transferred to a TBC character then?
If it’s on a different BNET and you consolidate it you should be able to add it to your collection on your current account on retail if it’s in your inventory but you should double check with a GM. Your retail license will not have the pet on TBC classic sadly which is disheartening considering you own the CE.
Would just like to add some of the GM responses I had when I sent a ticket about the same issue for feedback sake
GM1 response So, I’ve had a look into this and from what I can see the original Collectors Edition pets are WoW account bound and not Battle.net, due to that being the case the Dev’s have decided that we will not be assisting with transferring the license or key to another WoW account.
While the response was polite from the GM, I really think for players that own the CE on an old unused account that can prove was there’s should have the option to do this. (I literally have my old torn up Outland Map mousepad still original CD key etc lol) For whatever reason some players have had multiple WoW Licenses and for whatever reason it does not feel good not being able to use a pet on the only rerelease we will ever have of this expansion. I strongly Urge the development team to consider giving CS the flexibility to do this in the future.
I replied again just double checking and explaining that they can’t do this and the second response I got from another gm was
GM2 In an effort to align with you on this, I will confirm in your own phrasing - I am sorry to tell you that there is absolutely no way the old CE license can be moved to your current account and removed from your old unused account. I appreciate that you see this request as trivial and that the only acceptable outcome to you is that the license is moved, but I am afraid we will not be able to do it and I am sorry again that we couldn’t assist.
To state that I saw this as trivial is false as well, I knew this was a strange and complicated case like the OPs as well. I wasn’t to keen on the last reply if i’ll be honest these pets mean so much to the players who had them back in the day. Do I wish I never made a second WoW acc in Wrath? Most definitely but I don’t feel like myself and others in this predicament should be punished by not having the CE pets on Classic. As stated above as a long time player being fought on this it didn’t feel good at all and has really had me feeling down lately about the game. It may just be a dragon that follows you around but again it’s something that is incredibly nostalgic for most in this situation.
Best of luck to everyone and I hope this thread continues this discussion going forward!
Here’s mine. Looks like they’re not willing to help us. I’m disappointed, to say the least…
Your ticket has received the following response:
Hi there Krystal I’m Specialist Game Master Voutyri, and I’ll be handling your help request today with the utmost of care, and I’d like to thank you for your patience and understanding so far
I’ve been reading your tickets about the Netherwhelp pet in Burning Crusade Classic. I’m sorry to hear you upset and confused by the previous reply. Let me have a look into this further for you
I know it’s easy to get confused as we made a lot of things Battle.net account wide since The Burning Crusade first released. But because the classic version of WoW and Burning Crusade don’t support Battle.net account wide items it sadly means you won’t be able to get the Netherwhelp pet on your WoW4 account
I understand you feel robbed that you can’t use the pet on WoW4, but there really isn’t anything we can do. It’s not possible to move the Burning Crusade Collector’s Edition to WoW4 due to technical limitations
I wish I had a different answer for you, but I’m sorry to say it there really isn’t anything we can do for you
It’s not that they’re willing to help, it’s that the Classic and TBC versions don’t support account-wide items. So there’s nothing they can do.
I think your best bet is one day they let you transfer characters between WoW accounts and you move characters to whichever one had the CE pet originally.
Yeah, which is weird since they’re trying to milk the playerbase in so many other ways. Think about how much money Activi$ion would make if they allowed players to transfer characters between WoW accounts. Example: the boost. You could now just make a wow account, boost. Connect it to your battle.net and transfer. Of course at that point they’d probably just remove the 1-time limit (which we all know is going to happen eventually).
I almost wonder if this is why they won’t transfer or honor the license they figure they can get another 25$ out of players like us in this situation. Very unfortunate reading the gms response to Luka. It sounds like it’s something they could have done before but won’t because we want to use the netherwhelp pet in classic and there is a dev stance on not allowing cs to honor the pets. Very disappointing
In order to keep this discussion going there is a support article regarding this piece - https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/000288401 I would urge people to report the policy as frustrating even if this doesn’t effect you it’s something that could in the future. A solution to this would be the developers giving CS the flexibility to move older CE licenses to someone’s current bnet account if they can provide enough proof the item is theres (pictures of the old CE etc). It’s something from the sounds of it they CAN DO but the developers are tying their hands here from the responses I got.
Again as stated earlier this is something that means a lot to players who got these items back in 07. I will never forget coming home from school and opening the tbc collectors edition that my parents were gracious enough to get for me when I was younger.
