It’s a good thing, with an illusion we can finally play as an Ogre waiting…the glorious day where we fully get them as playable race.
That made me think of an Ogre player using an illusion to appear as an Ogre and then I realized that when/if certain races become playable that’s something that can actually happen.
Like Ogre players can go from the Ogre they made to the look generated by the illusion, while the Will of Northrend toy can turn Taunka and Vrykul into the Taunka and Vrykul models attached to it. And yes, I use both the Taunka and Vrykul because I do think we’ll get them come Last Titan. Yes getting their labels, when the Weathered Northrend Sigil triggered on them is just rather suspicious to me.
I’ve been largely leaning towards an Ogre Warrior, though if we do get a shaman tank spec, I might end up going that route.
I think Warriors would be one of the more popular classes for Ogres. Maybe one of the caster classes as well, depending on how they handle two-head customization options and if they would be available for all classes or not.
Still planning to go with a male Ogre Fury Warrior if we’re lucky enough to get playable Horde Ogres someday!

I agree.
To be honest, I only really started thinking of other potential classes for Ogres, because I like having a heal spell/ability.
I’d kill for tank shaman. My orc shaman would go to that so fast.
I wouldn’t mind making an Ogre Shaman like that too. I like them being tanky.
My mage will probably be a one headed ogre cause of the story I have but I want my Death Knight to be a two headed ogre. He was one of the two headed ones from the Second War… and I just like that idea for him.
Don’t forget you can support these threads about these races from the Northrend here :
I hope to see Ogre as playable race for the Horde one day too.
Considering Metzen was on record on wanting Ogres playable and his return, I can’t help but feel hopeful. Plus I think how the Earthen weren’t all around accepted could motivate them to utilize traditional Horde races.
Though one thing I have noticed is that most of the earthen I see in game are Horde. It feels weird, every single time.
Ogres and Naga were the specific races that Metzen had wanted to become playable races someday. I saw some talk that he had wanted Earthen playable in some fashion before, but I couldn’t find any sources and I don’t know if current Earthen were part of that vision or not.
And while the chances of playable Horde Ogres have been raised, I would still temper expectations. We don’t really know specifics for Midnight or The Last Titan, and there could have been plans set in motion before Metzen came back. Even then, we don’t know how much sway he has over decisions like playable races or what the budget for expansion design is. And considering a lot of what Microsoft has been up to lately with layoffs and such, I’ve been more worried and dubious at best.
At least with Ogres, they do have things going for them. They’re one of the biggest requested playable races and would cause a lot of marketing hype with female Ogres and customization options. Especially if two-head customization options ever become a thing. But I know that a pretty hefty budget would be needed to get them to work as a playable race to where people would be pretty satisfied with the results.
Regardless, generally speaking, I hope that a focus on races people have been requesting for quite some time when deciding new playable races would happen going forward. I think it would be for the best long term in making people happy and at least showing that Blizzard is listening to feedback.
But we’ll see what happens when it happens. All we can do is keep supporting our races we want playable and hope for the best.
Playing as one also feels very weird. Moreso as barely anything was shown about them wanting to join a faction and said faction wanting to have them as members.

It truly does feel out of left field.
September sure is zooming by fast, isn’t it? October is almost here, and one of the awesome things about that month is our megathread’s 4th anniversary on October 9th!
As mentioned before, I’m unfortunately unable to really plan anything big for that day other than the usual speech post. However, it still shows just how strong our passion for playable Horde Ogres. And we’re not stopping anytime soon!
I’ll still keep on marching in support of playable Horde Ogres as best as I can!

Lantressor of the Blade is amongst the attendants of the 20th anniversary event. He reflects on how the Horde and the Burning Blade have changed. When asked about the Boulderfist clan, he affirms that he is their leader but they are not ready change as the Horde has.
I honestly can’t help but wonder at this. Just a neat bit of dialogue, world building, or a hint at the future. Perhaps we could be apart of events that help the Boulderfist clan change.
The more I think about it, the more I can’t help but wonder if Lantressor of the Blade will end in the leadership position for playable Ogres. Like the Boulderfist joining the Horde and him uniting the Ogres under one banner or a council made from the Horde Ogre leaders.
The following images are from Discord links and will be removed from Discord at some point, causing broken image links. I may try to move them to another image link when I can, but for now, I’ll just link the Discord images.
It’s an interesting thing to read. It could be that the Boulderfist Clan could be another clan added to the Horde Ogre faction in the future…assuming Blizzard doesn’t villain bat them, which they shouldn’t.
The more I think about it, the more I feel like a council of Horde Ogre clans make a lot of sense. It would add some great roleplaying opportunities for Ogre players and act as a balance of power. It also helps to keep the corruption of Ogre clan leaders remains in check in case any of them get any “smart” ideas after what happened to the last few Ogre leaders of the MU Stonemaul Clan.
I really feel like an Ogre or a Council of Ogres needs to be a leader of the playable Horde Ogre faction. It just doesn’t feel right otherwise, in my opinion.
Having Rexxar and Lantressor of the Blade having roles of some kind to work with the Horde Ogre clans and acting as commanders in battle is fine and all, but I feel like the Ogres need to stand on their own and be able to represent themselves in the Horde. It just feels better and makes Ogres feel more like a faction as opposed to being ordered around by a non-Ogre to do whatever.
And if a council of Ogre clans is the direction of the playable Horde Ogre faction, then having an Ogre represent each clan works as an equality thing. People like Rexxar and Lantressor of the Blade can act as advisors to their specific clans, but Ogre business should be handled among Ogres. Especially when some of the clans wouldn’t have a non-Ogre representative.
Not to mention that the Dunemaul Clan would likely be used by Megs Dreadshredder for things not in the best of interest of the Dunemaul Clan. It would be kinda amusing to see her put an Ogre as “leader” of the Dunemaul Clan, only to have them go against what she wants in a comedic fashion. Especially with the Dunemaul Clan on an Ogre council, listening to Megs as an advisor if only to know what not to do.
Let the Horde Ogre faction be Ogres and let them determine Ogre business, I say!

I understand that, though we never know with Blizzard.
In thinking of it, there are a few Ogre clans that are either part of the Horde or could eventually join the Horde that could have a non-Ogre person in a semi-leadership role. Looking at Ogre clan leadership of those part of the Horde and those that could join and become part of a Horde Ogre council:
-MU Stonemaul Clan has Rexxar, who isn’t really leading them anymore. Assumed to be lead by Tharg.
-AU Stonemaul Clan could have an AU Mag’har Orc as part of their leadership alongside an actual Ogre leader.
-Dunemaul Clan is “lead” by Megs Dreadshredder, who could have a leader put in that follows her “suggestions” on how to lead the clan…or not to her chagrin.
-Boulderfist Clan has Lantressor of the Blade as their leader.
-Gordunni Clan had a human leader in the Traveler book series before they lost leadership, though the Gordunni Clan made a rule that only Ogres can become Gordok King now.
-Crushridge Clan has been lead by Mug’thol from the classic RTS days to current times, I assume.
Part of me feels like Blizzard would go the simpler route and just have the MU and AU Stonemaul Clans make up the playable Horde Ogre faction.
However, if there were multiple Horde Ogre clans part of the Horde Ogre faction, then I can see a rule made where only Ogres can be part of said council and each Horde Ogre clan having a leader with a non-Ogre advisor at best. I still think there could be amusing scenes of the Dunemaul Clan leader going against Megs Dreadshredder’s “advice” and doing what is actually best for their clan.
But as mentioned, who knows what realistically will happen?
Also, I see the Discord links are broken now. I thought they stayed for a few days before Discord eats them. I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to move them to another image hosting service, so if anyone knows where to find them again, I’ll fix the broken image links.

That was a great breakdown of it. While a council style leadership is one way to tie the Ogres together, there is apart of me that wonders if Blizzard would follow the Tauren format. Like we have the various Tauren tribes, with the High Chieftain as their overall leader. So I could see Blizzard bringing the Ogres together, with one leader serving as the High Overlord of the Ogre clans.
In thinking about how I would like the playable Ogre leadership to be handle, I realized that I really like the idea of an Ogre Council since it guarantees that the Stonemaul would have a presence. Though should we get the usual one direct leader, how much I like it would depend on how its gone.
What I eagerly accept in that manner is below:
1.) With he one clan, one leader route then I want the playable Ogres to come from the Stonemaul clan.
2.) Should we follow the Tauren tribes system with a High Warlord (working title) as the over all leader, then I would be over the moon if said leader was the Stonemaul leader, though should we have the Boulderfist join with Lantressor of the Blade as the over all leader, I would be perfectly fine with that too.
With the Stonemaul, it’s a simple matter of them being the first Ogre clan to join the New Horde. With the Boulderfist, they were actually the first Ogre clan to join the Horde. For anyone who doesn’t remember, their former leader Krol was amongst the first Ogres convinced by Blackhand and Doomhammer to join their forces and BC revealed that the clan he lead was the Boulderfist. It’s that historic aspect of it and me personally liking Lantressor of the Blade, that makes me okay with him being the over all leader of an Ogre union. Though I would like the playable Ogres to be led by an Ogre or at least one with Ogre blood.
So I’m curious do you all have a preference on how you want the Ogre leadership position handled? Either council or singular style? If it is singular, are you like me with having a set criteria you want followed?
Showing my support again for pushing it, keep it going fans and stay awesome.
