Next Hero after Imperius?

I’d like to see Albrecht, the character in Diablo, they put the soul crystal into his head. He must have gotten some kind of power. Plus I looked him up, there’s back story there.

Jered Cain another interesting one, though with little known about him. There’s pictures with tattoos maybe runes or protective wards? He’s a success story, though all was not maintained.

And of course Zoltun Kulle and Tal Rasha two strong characters in the Diablo series.

Though I think i’d like to see Albrecht the most, as he seals Diablo away with the use of the soul stone. I think it’s a highly favorable character in the series, being he’s in the story not on the good side though not willingly evil. So what is he, just a prince in the wrong place against his will?

All though the more I read about, the generalize character “Dark Wanderer” maybe fitting also. I suppose I think of this character, as the Varian of Diablo. Maybe that’s what make it so interesting, also Aidan the Dark Wanderer maybe more interesting, as he could be displayed as the cover character of Diablo 2. Sounds to me though, Aidan and Albrecht are one and the same, or of the same purpose in the games scheme.

Details would be Melee defensive character, with magic ultimate (Taking the soul stone in). Then becomes a disabler and or summoner, under the ultimate effects.

Sword and shield, highly effective against evil damage over time (resilience against the evil that took Tristram. Reduce damage over time).

  • Shield of Tristram: puts up a large shield to protect all the stand behind him. (Levels into a shield that momentarily protects all team mates in the area. Quested to add spirit shield circles team mates, when effect is active.) Animation: Maybe make the shield grow spiritually larger that life, to protect all the stand behind him. *1

  • Shield of hope: cleansing all team mates in the area healing them for all damage over time on them, plus adds armor until hit. (Leveled to effect team mates, quested to add cleansing.) Update: Alternative: Shielding health forcing damage to effect healing over time momentarily.

  • Shield bash: Charges into battle, adding life armor to allies in his path. (Rushes forward past allies, adding life armor all he touches as he passes. Can charge through allies.)

  • Sword impale: effects a single target causing critical damage. (Maybe level into bleed damage, over time damaging successful hit. Quest for successful hit, into bleed damage.) Updated, If shielding is a toggle effect, with a structure health bar, this ability gains damage though losses reach.

  • Resilience: Trait the reduces damage over time. (Leveled to reduce this effect more. Quested to reduce other magic types as well.)

  • Rebuke: Cause evil to falter, first stunning them then slowing them. Animation: Battle cry type shout in the face of evil, to show your fearless against them. Update: 1) Maybe Slam enemy against wall or structure, damaging them and the structure. 2) Alternative: rebukes damage over time, reducing it’s amount or removing it completely. Rebuking evil influence.

  • Summon treachery: A summon that taunts all enemies in AOE, to focus and force attack it. (this summon will provoke/taunt disabling enemies for a short time, making them attack either Aidan himself or a summon, then the summon can remain until defeated).

  • Taunt foe: Slams sword against shield, forcing enemies to attack character.

Here’s a few ideas, how the Dark Wanderer could be developed. I didn’t cover what the Ultimate would do in detail, just that when he force the soul stone into his head, he becomes something else like a summoner or disabler.

After reading another post made by Kamizombie about new character ideas, I have some updates. I must credit him for the shield idea, having a separate health bar as a nonplayer object. This is a amazing idea, as *1 Shield of Tristram “Is detailed as a spirit shield that protects all the stand behind him”. applying his nonplayer hp idea to this, was cool idea. But he didn’t stop there, he goes on to say to make it a toggle. This is interesting as it’s now a nonplayer or a structure like the gates already in game, but also it’s something I put up and leave until broken or take down at will. This is helpful to my idea, because impale in my idea is a lunge attack, that you can use while in a defensive stance. So thank him for helping me better detail my character idea.

Update 2

I have put some time into think about, how to go about the transformation from Aidan to “The dark wanderer”. It’s not been a easy thing, due to wanting to make the highest quality idea come to life. With some compromises, I think I have a realistic idea.

    • Maybe build a secondary skill set, after he takes on the soul stone. This would be a permanent change to the character, until defeated or not. Completely changing the character maybe not be necessary. As when he takes on the soul stone, he accomplished his goal. He would change surely, though I think he was a vary strong character and could retain a sentiment of his former self, sentiment of his humanity if you will. So this change must be something based on the details, that not only he is the eldest son of King Leoric, the big brother of Albrecht but a sentiment of these details after he takes on the soul stone. So a combination of all these details, cause a transformation not a complete change.
    • I figure Shield of Tristram and other defensive abilities will be replaced by something, more fitting the new role of “Dark Wanderer”. He’s not depicted with a shield at all, in accounts to his role after this point. So I think to detail a havoc summoner, with some sword skill. so his defensive abilities replaced with summons, to do tanking for him. And one sword skill and spell, to fill his role.

Update: Character theories story/dialog and approaching them.
I don’t want to look at it like, he’s switching sides. Surely the sentiment of humanity will help his resilience to some extent, also his willingness to seal Diablo away was a choice of freewill. Now he battles Diablo in his mind which has obvious results, there needs to some kind of sign he’s still there or he’s accomplished his goal. How to show this is important as he’s not going to tell you out right, though may hint his success or taunt it if you will. Things he may say will reflect that success, though in some demented way. Can’t think of any demented dialog at the moment. Though I imagine it’ll be something along the lines Aidan got revenge for his brother and Diablo now sealed, will attempt to prey on Aidan thus the result should be accordingly derived from bother Aidan and his story as son and prince. Also considering demented by Diablo’s soul stone, manipulating him to say or do things based on this success. Maybe it was the drive of will, saddened anger and hate for Diablo, that Diablo will now take pleasure in his new position, to manipulate Aidan that will be reflected in his dialog and skill set. In this method Aidan was merely a Son of a King, to the people of Tristram. The accounts of how or why the Leoric family arrived there, are not known to me personally.

There’s also the conspiracy theories approach, all the events that occurred were planned, to be witnessed by ignorant eyes. (Maybe based on a past history in Tristram we don’t know about. Bar fight maybe a death of somebody important, then this cursed Tristram is the revenge they’ve taken. They’ve used sacrifice to trick the people of Tristram in believing what’s happen, only happen because. Not for a spoken or obvious reason, they maybe should remember or know well. Maybe they did know it, so fell easily to this curse in guilty conscious.) Should this be his true goal reached, then this need to be reflect in someway also. Though both ways have speculation, there’s a transparency in both which will be hard to detail or show in the game. In this way Aidan could be a “Soul” inheritant, as is deceived to the people of Tristram. And again i’ll iterate, I don’t want to make him to be a trader, so both sides of my idea work in this way.

Although I think this is a good starting place in structing the character, I have yet thought about how to implement it. That’s also a really important detail, due to the fact we want you to want what’s going to progress. You know the path the game takes, so this idea maybe best to a short story, I think could be done in Heroes of the storm with supportive character acting. Then again if the game Diablo is to come to a end, then this type of closure surely will interest the fan base. Do you agree?

I can imagine Cain telling us, this is not the best situation, thus me must press on before it’s to late.
“He got his revenge, so now he toys with it.”, “This could prove useful, in our quest to destroy Diablo.”, “though remember he’s not fully aware, he was once one of us.”, “Now Diablo fights to control him, thus me must act quick to end this.”

Imagine Aidan, alone or alone with his dead brother.
“When I saw my brother with the soul stone, I knew it was my destiny.”, “This is my legacy, this is my power.”, “My families plan for me, finally can be fulfilled.”, “I have not disappointed you father.”.

A voice from the deeps: (mighty and angry) “What would Tyrael have to say about this?”

Update 3
Trying to think of unique skills for ultimate and supportive role.
After some thought it was brought to my attention, there may need to be a Diablo character within a supportive role, the fits the buffer or other criteria (not healer) (My first thought was make something Chaos based) (Maybe like randomly buff one skill on each team member every few seconds, though weaken the others to compensate). This maybe true as I haven’t been able to play all the Diablo roster, though know there are some strong supports (Diablo and Butcher both take or move enemies to break their formation). I am not sure this is the character for it, though I may try to detail it in. Thinking something like a ultimate drains health from surrounding allies, giving them armor and spell damage while active. Or while active corrupts lesser minions up to a number (Minions from the waves), converting them to your team and stays active until defeated. Both are good while healing ultimate are up or for a strong push, though the first makes you think before you act. There’s also the idea like in Diablo 3 when fighting Diablo, you’re put into a nightmare to fight, every enemy hit is separated to fight the whole team for 2 or 3 seconds?

I’ve been playing for a week now and have much to learn about the game. I’ve seen a few things that I might find interesting, when thinking about this characters skill set and build. Like Gazlowe having little bolt drops, for what ever it is he uses it for (I haven’t played him yet). I was thinking if this character gets a kill (must last hit, enemy hero), the defeated enemy drops something (hero essence), him or his team mates will want to pick up. Once so many (Hero essence) have been collected, these will be consumed as power. Leaving the team members buffed for a time and/or when certain skills are active, alternatively reduces the level he can take ultimate form. So it would require so many hero essence and him to get the last defeating hit to make this drop happen, for him to use his ultimate at any level, or based on how many a team mate collects, there’s a buff applied maybe duration or strength of buff based on this number. Or maybe when there’s enough on the field when he uses this skill or ultimate, dead team members will resurrect at his current location.

The idea with these skills is, they are only active when “Dark Wanderer” is on the field. The skills he already has will have these added effects, so using them will auto cast these skills to any ally any where on the field, making this a burden in a sense. Also this brings back the question his ultimate “Dark Wanderer” form will only be active until time runs out or until defeated?

  • Resurrection: When 3 hero essences are present on the field (Excluding dead team mates who will loss theirs upon respawning.), will be resurrected at Aidan’s current location.
    • Quest to consume 5 or more heroes essences, buff Aidan/“Dark Wanderer” abilities.

And again back to things I’ve noticed, like Nazeebo’s zombie wall i’ll make example. It can be leveled, to move around like minions. Not the only character with structures or minions, so this could be useful.

Also these heroes essence can be actively used by players who are holding them, for certain things like Immortality and the list below. Also Aidan’s leveling system must include some skills, to make buffing actively by his control I’ll put a # for those.

  • Immortality: This skill makes all timed structures or minions live until defeated. (sense this could get out of hand, we’ll say next cast (only one per essence) will apply this effect.)

  • #Victor’s reward: For each heroes essence apply 25% basic attack damage increase.

  • #Madding magic: When active buff spell damage by 25% for each essence, add 2 mana regen for 10 seconds.

  • Tincture of time: When active remove all damage over time effects and grant 200 hp + 80 per tick for 3 over 3 seconds for each heroes essence held.
    ~~

This is off the topic of this character, though some points I’ve made in it, are significant to my overall result to this character. As I am trying to detail a time line, that can be played out in a short story kind of way, with in Heroes of the storm or the like.

I figure it’ll be pieced together, if done with significant to the stage we’re in. So I am trying to think of a way, the staging isn’t a significant role in the story telling. Almost like the leveling system, progress made during a match and length of time (dialog) are all that are needed. Maybe some supportive character roles, when available though should not be required like flair. It’s starting to sound like, I want to tell stories instead of playing music, this is not true.

Update 4
I’ve been working off line, to produce what I think is a better more refined version, to be what I think I’d expect Aidan to be in HotS. I’ve been detailing story elements as well to try and justify what every detail I am building into his HotS character and why. Maybe will work on detailing a map or event or mode to attempt to tell his character story or to display his path like a silent picture (Can add few lines of dialog, though i’m not the best at it). I think I’ve got the base character done at this point, just looking to fill in the leveling to better explain how each skill functions in terms with his story and major turning points of it. And I also think I’ve got it done in a way, the game already supports most of what I’ve planned. Not that the game couldn’t use an update, beyond that what’s supported for CPU GPU pc types.

Also I detailed the art of the character, to show what I think will be impressive. Though I could attempt to do some modeling myself, not sure what the polycount limits and resolutions I need to work with are. Any idea where to find this information? That’ll most likely take me awhile to do, like month to get it to the point somebody more experienced can make things work.

Update 5
Funny story I got the character done, then tried to layout the skills in the HotS character layout method. FailFish So it works just not the way I wanted it too. I’ve got to much of one thing, not enough of another. But I had an epiphany to make things work and should be able to rework things soon. Sorry for the wait.
