First of all, this is just an example. Second of all, when actually in game context, it does make you think. You show up to a pack of mobs. You see 5 harpies with Might Aura and Amplify Damage. There’s also a ghost buffed champion overlord in there. You know berserk makes you take increased damage, but you know if the harpies hit you while you are doing that you are going to die. So you quickly say okay I’m going to leap to the harpies, kill them first, isolate the ghost, then use berserk. So yes, you do have to think. Sure, call me a toddler. I still would rather have to do SOME BASIC THINKING than faceroll my 6 moves.
You are also leaving out ‘its beta level 25’ and 6 skill slots arent enough
What happens when we have 60+ skill points instead of only 26 to make a build with??
Here are some of the forum posts already created that you decided not to read before you made this. Plenty of reading material here.
Here’s a post I made back in February 2022 on the D3 forums.
Here’s other posts from way back when on the D3 forums.
Here are a bunch of posts so far and discussions that have been happening on the D4 forums.
85 likes on this post from Console Discussion Forums.
Bunch of youtubers have said they want more than 6 skill slots also.
Here are the timestamps.
Kripparian and Quin69.
Podcast with 4 youtubers Zizaran, Sequisha, Nugi, Datmodz.
Sequisha and Zizaran both say more skill slots would be better for D4 and you can see Nugi nod his head and say “yeah” very clearly he agrees. Datmodz even nods his head slightly at the end.
Livestream from Rhykker talking about an ultimate button.
So that’s SIXTEEN different posts I could find with a very quick search of this topic across the D3 D4 US and EU forums. And 7 youtubers so far that have said the same thing. The console post has 85 different likes on it! You understand now?
Yea and Last Epoch let you have only 5 skills and it is one of the most promising arpg’s out there. I think all these idea from more=better logic is coming from old d2 nostalgia imo, the thing is this is a new game and it’s not even much like diablo 2, after playing the beta is not even very similar to diablo 2, but that’s fine game still makes tons of fun.
I mean the understanding comes from the ultmiates not really being ultimates, only skills with high cooldown. And im not puttning diablo 3 on a high horse, its just the most recent game and the diablo game i have the most experiemce with so of course it will be my comparison. The issue with more skill slots is one point wonders will dominate the game through the skill poinst from gear leading to every char using every skill.
They have less buttons because they want to make it console friendly. I personally think this is diablos biggest mistake is making a console friendly game. The skill tree is trash to move around because of it. There are radial menus. The limited skills works on a controller.
All around, diablo needs to be PC only so it isn’t trash.
Yep and i dont agree. Opinions are a wonderful thing arent they? They have theie opinions and i have mine which is ehat makes discourse possible. Not Having read these posts does not invalidate my opinion and i hope you realize im not putting anyonr else down, just up for discussion
Yea sure lol that’s also why Diablo 2 resurrected on consoles has only 6 skills right…
Not a strawman, these are from some of thebtop D2 players. Mr llama talked about makinb tough decisions then proceded to say why he needed 26 skills for his sorcerer, laying out every trivial thing that he could possibly encounter and having an answer for it.
Besides nothing is stopping you from taking for than 6, youncan just only have 6 active at one time. Items give you skill ranks and I was constantly swapping out utility, defensive, different basic and core skills as I needed.
Where did I mention D2? I didn’t, I mentioned a game that does allow many many skills to be used and that it is not actually necessary to do so. I further commented on the complexity of balance around higher number of skills.
Your opinion misses the mark wide in relation to my comment. In fact, your reply to my comment was nothing more then an attempt to put your opinion back out there again.
So it’s yours, just an opinion
Which makes no sense again, as your opinion was nothing in relation to my post.
This was a complaint about D3 back when it was launched. A lot of anger over the game being “designed for consoles” and artificially limited. This is not a new complaint at all and I am not at all surprised that the people who wanted more skill slots back then still want more skill slots.
Especially the people who didnt even bother with D3 and waited for this instead
So, by your admission, you can have them. You just have to deal with the annoyance of swapping them out in the available slots.
With that being the case as you have stated it, what is the point in having it that way?
Do you think that is good design to have someone’s gameplay involve stopping to swap skills in/out of slots? Particularly in multi-player gameplay?
Also, that is a Diablo 2 character on a Sorceress which has a unique issue for that class and game where there are enemies that are 100% immune to their damage. That is not even an issue here.
Citing an issue with a different game, unless you see that exact issue in this game isn’t a good point for restricting the number of skills; especially when the solution in that game is to not restrict the number of skills.
Almost all arpgs after D3 followed D3’s 6 skill system. D2 fanboys are stuck in early 2000s still LoL
I just want the ultimate button, it didn’t feel good to sacrifice a slot in D3 for it, it still doesn’t feel good in D4.
But I think 6 buttons is otherwise fine. Just means being more creative with your builds and gameplay instead of having a whole arsenal of 12 things to push. I’m on the fence with Necro summons having their own buttons. On the one hand it sucks they’re more limited with skills they can use, but the summons ARE damage after all so warrants using a slot.
Even if it was because it is being “designed for consoles”, they could allow console players to setup 1+ button on controllers as a “modifier key” so that, for example pressing A,B,X, or Y is different than holding LT down and pressing A,B,X, or Y. By letting that be an option, the console players that don’t need it can not use it, but those that want several skills while playing on console could be supported.
It provides an option that empowers players to play how they want.
It’s not because of controllers if that’s what you are thinking.
In my opinion, some classes could get by with fewer buttons: Sorc, maybe Necro if it absolutely had to.
Other classes: Rogue, need more. Or, just use the rune system from D3 and let me add the poison/shadow/whatever abilities permanently to my spender on timer rather than having to use a slot to keep mashing it every other attack.
