So I’m trying to put in a ticket (due to being unable to pick up the Return Lost Souls quest but I can’t because for some reason you are now requiring phone numbers for tickets (WTF) and no matter which way I try to put my phone number in it says it’s not a valid phone number, well it sure seems valid when my phone rings and it’s been my number for 10 years. This is ridiculous, I just want to be able to pick up this quest that has disappeared.
Are you trying for a call back there also seems to be a issue with that perticular quest not sure if a GM can help at this point.
Once thing. Call back is for Tech Support and Billing, not for general bug reports.
As for the quest, it’s a known issue, and it’s something a GM cannot fix.
Also noting that call backs haven’t been available for several months now. Tickets are the primary means of communication, save for the very slender window live chat may be available each day. But as has been stated, this is a known issue and no GM (and no ticket) will be able to help you here.
I got to https://us.battle.net/support/en/help/contact/472/ticket with out requiring a phone number, what option are you using?
I am not sure a GM would be able to intervene either to be honest.
They are working on this. Unknown at the moment if GM intervention will be needed or possible.
No, nowhere did I select a call-back.
I really don’t think this is related to the Callback feature. The requirements for Bnet accounts overall have changed.
Recently people have posted here for help because they can’t set up the mobile authenticator without a valid phone number - which should NOT be the case. Auth is supposed to work even on non-phone devices and is not linked to SMS Protect.
This thread explores the back and forth between folks here on the CS forum with a user trying to figure out why it was asking for phone number to set up Mobile Auth. Can't use authenticator
Today I noticed the login screen for WoW asks for Email (normal) OR Phone Number
There are LOTS of threads on the Blizzard forums https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/blizzard/ related to Invalid Phone Numbers.
Today looking at the Invalid Phone Number article it is no longer an OPTION to use a phone number for some users - especially if you want to play free games. https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/202594
This is heavily impacting Activision users it seems (as was maybe the intent?) but the trickle down is that that it now impact Blizzard folks setting up Authenticators, logging in, and now making tickets.
There are many reasons a Phone number can be considered invalid by the system - if it was once pay by minute, VOIP, Cricket, or if your country on the account does not match the phone number. Very few of those can be changed and the phone number lockout can’t be over ridden by CS.
I am really hoping that the new Login Screen asking for Phone number OR Email is not indicative that a phone number is going to be required for all Blizz accounts.
So I guess they finally pushed what they had originally tested on the PTR for 8.2.5?
Although, I haven’t really been paying close attention to the login screen (since the launcher auto logs me in to the game), so it could have started earlier and I missed it.
Same. I noticed it because I afked too long and it went to login screen.
The linking of phones though seems to be very pervasive now and I am curious how exactly it plans to work - especially for folks on VOIP, Cricket, or who have old numbers that just won’t update to reg paid ones.
I’ve been on Metro for years and have had SMS Protect set up with it almost the full time.
Why would Cricket number be considered invalid by the system? it’s still pay per month like every other service.
I have no idea but most Cricket numbers seem to trigger the error code.
Quote from GM ticket the poster cited.
Thank you so very much for contacting us regarding this situation. It is an issue we are aware of at the moment.
So you wanted to link a Cricket mobile number into your account.
The things is , apparently, Cricket mobile numbers aren’t usable in this situation, as they have never worked with our SMS system as their block of numbers are registered as prepaid numbers.
The only solution is to link a different phone number, one that is not pre-paid nor has anything related to Cricket( different operator).
Here is a link with an article explaining this situation :
Due to it being a prepaid service, not a normal monthly service. I got lucky that my prepaid service phone number wasn’t registered as such so that I could use it.
I only ask because I use cricket. Does this mean I should stick to using my email?
I assume so Totes. Cricket numbers are registered as pre-paid even though they are not which is not compatible with the Blizzard system.
I just read that support article, interesting because sms authentication works just fine for me. Could this be a region based issue?
Depends upon what block of Cricket assigned numbers your phone number came from. Some blocks were intended to be used by prepaid “throw-away” phones and are flagged as being temporary numbers. Most blocks assigned to companies are for permanent phones.
Wouldn’t be surprised if different types of blocks were used by a company in different regions.
