Can't use authenticator

I have a cricket phone that will not allow me to link my phone to my Blizzard account. Is there any other way to protect my account?

The authenticator is different than sms protect, but the mobile authenticator does have a minimum os also.

I guess my question, just to clarify. What is the error you are seeing?

Some prepaid phones won’t work for sms.

I’m afraid I don’t know much about that kind of phone/service, Holdmybeer.

If you are able to run the Authenticator App on the phone you should be able to attach it to your Battle.net account, though Phone Notifications are a different matter. Many pre-paid plans cannot be used, I think cricket may be one of them.

Is this specifically about attaching an Authenticator or linking the phone number?

There’s a key fob authenticator you can use as an alternative to the phone authenticator. I see one listed here on amazon, but it’s a little expensive.

Holdmybeer, I use Cricket for my phone service too. Cricket has my number listed as a prepaid number, and that right there blocks my number from being used too. I miss having SMS protection, but I do have an authenticator on the phone.

It says invalid number

Your only option is to contact Cricket and see if they can change something on their end. I personally have had no luck in doing that.

If it’s just a matter of running the authenticator, there are android emulation programs that run under windows that can run the blizzard authenticator.

Would that be something like bluestack? Not really familiar with that stuff.

Running an emulator isn’t gonna change the invalid number for SMS protection, just allow you to run the authenticator app on your PC.

Just to be clear, the authenticator doesn’t use your phone number at all. Only SMS Blizzard Phone Notifications requires your phone number.

The Authenticator is used to secure your account and is an app that can be used on most Android or Apple phones.

If you’re getting the “invalid phone number” error, that means your telephone number can’t be used for SMS phone notifications with Blizz. Unfortunately, there’s no real way around that.

Ya I just wanted to protect my account as best as I can but My phone number is not valid. Well I will just hope I don’t get hacked haha. ty for the help everyone.

Using SMS doesn’t protect your account at all, so you shouldn’t be worried as long as you have an authenticator on it instead.

I don’t have one I installed the app for it but says not a valid number.

Are you are installing the right app? I have a Cricket phone and I installed the Authenticator with no issues. I just can’t use SMS protection.

What says “not a valid number”? Do you mean when you’re generating an authentication code?

Follow this link and see if your phone is able to actually install the app. It shouldn’t require your phone number at all.

I downloaded the blizz authenticator app and it asks me to put my number in to generate a code and it say whoops there was a problem wait a few monents and just keeps saying that.

Okay, so fun I just removed my authenticator and uninstalled the app from my phone.

Now, when I added it back to my account, at no point did it ask me for my phone number. It did ask for the Serial number from the app and for a current code from the app too.

To get the current code being generated, you might need to click on the option to “Enter code manually” which will show you a timed code. That’s what you need to enter when setting up the authenticator along with your serial number that was also displayed.

Ok I re installed the auth app on my phone. Asks me for my email and log in info for blizz. I do that then it takes me to a get started screen. I hit that and then it asks me to put in a phone number and I do and I hit get code and that error pops up. Thank you again for taking the time out of your day to help me.

Instead of phone number there, use your email address associated with your battle.net account.
