It is required now during set up. I have the old Physical auth and it still works. They did not remove our Auths, but if I were to get a new one I would have to link a valid phone number as part of set up.

Just put my family on Cricket wireless unlimited family plan and blizzard account management, as well as mobile authenticator will not accept my phone number. It is not prepaid, and neither of the 2 other suggestions given in blizzards “help” thing apply.
Does blizzard just not accept numbers from cricket wireless for some reason or is this a bug?

I really don’t think this is related to the Callback feature. The requirements for Bnet accounts overall have changed.
Recently people have posted here for help because they can’t set up the mobile authenticator without a valid phone number - which should NOT be the case. Auth is supposed to work even on non-phone devices and is not linked to SMS Protect.
