The Spelladin - new Retribution meta for Classic

Courtesy of DexterBravo:

  1. Gear competetion - That T2 gear that every pally wants for PVP or RP, isn’t good for holy. But it is BIS (likely forever) for Spelladins. That’s 8 pieces of items that is Spelladin prio, which won’t be replaced in ZG, AQ, NAXX. That’s a lot of gear for happy warriors, casters, etc., that otherwise was wanted by the AP ret.

  2. Actually viable DPS most likely (none of us know how Classic will be tuned in the end).

  3. Much better than AP ret – more dps, more mana uptime, and again, less gear competetion.

  4. Hybrid possibilities - You can cleanse mid swing. You can be a back up healer and to some degree even in your dps gear, due to the big amounts of spell power. You can choose talents that gives you 100% mana return on crit, for only 2.5% decrease in DPS. You get an extra pally buff, DI, less downtime due to being a resser etc.

  5. In terms of dps to nightfall uptime ratio, paladin wins.

here are some reasonable facsimiles of the type of playstyle from retail to give you an idea of how it works:

PreBIS: https://tinyurl.com/Spelladin-Phase1-PREBIS

You could use Lionheart Helm until you get Judgement Crown
Spec used in the vid: https://classicdb.ch/?talent#sxVzZVhZEb0trcqo

In general (but it’s contextual), these are the best weapons; “worst to best”:
Destiny/Flurry Axe - Blade of Hanna - Ironfoe - Ashbringer - Hungering Cold - Thunderfury - MCP
If you use Flask then Flurry Axe will be better than Hanna - if so, then use Spirit of Aquementas or better.

Enchants:
Spell power on weapon and shoulders
Haste on helm, legs and hands
All stats on chest
Strength on bracers
Agility on boots (or speed) and cloak (or resist)

Consumes list:
Some of the items are pure contextual, like f.ex. if you don’t use shadow oil, shadow power wont do much for you.
Ordered from best to worst in terms of general pure dps:

(Best:)
Manual Crowd Pummeler
Shadow Oil
Flask of Supreme Power
Dragonbreath Chili
Iron Counterweight
Elixir of the Mongoose
Greater Arcane Elixir
Elixir of Shadow Power

(Great:)
Goblin Sapper Charge
Crystal Charge

(Good:)
Juju Power
R.O.I.D.S.
Elixir of Giants

(Okay:)
Juju Might
Winterfall Firewater
Elixir of Greater Agility
Juju Flurry
Elixir of Greater Firepower
Grilled Squid
Elixir of Greater Intellect

In general, for every boss you should aim to have:

  1. 1x MCP with Shadow Oil and Counterweight
  2. 1x Major Mana Potion + 1x Dark Rune
  3. 0-1x Goblin Sapper Charge + 1-2x Crystal Charge
  4. At least Best-tier consumes (except flask).
(4.1.) Great-tier consumes are awesome for packs of mobs. If you don’t have too many, only use them on 3+ mobs at the time. But they are great for bosses as well.
(4.2.) Good-tier consumes are really nice to have as well.
(4.3.) Okay-tier consumes are sorta meh, but it will boost you ofc. Depending on how many consumes you need it comes down to how long your raids are and how much gold you have.

Side-note: In terms of the auras; leader of the pack, trueshot aura, moonkin aura. If you have a choice, go with trueshot aura, then leader of the pack, then moonkin aura.

This will be very interesting. I hope that you make a complete guide on this that we can sticky on the official WoW forums. I know you are quite active on Discord.

I kind of think that if Dual Wielding was possible, Paladin could be competitive with Fury Warriors. That auto attack damage stacking hit, crit and AP turns out to be a lot of DPS.

Does this mean that in the SP meta that Ret Paladins do not want Bonereavers Edge, Sulfuras, Ashkandi, Dark Edge of Insanity, Might of Menethil et al?

only for PvP - the one outlier however will be Corrupted Ashbringer as its Life Drain proc scales at 100% of spell damage and also scales with debuffs on the target such as Nightfall, Curse of Shadow, Imp Shadow Bolt etc…

That’s really cool. Does this involve weapon swapping in a raid DPS situation or are you just going through a stack of MCPs?

sit tight - Dexter just gave me more to put in the first post - will edit it in a min

TLDR per Dexter - On boss fights you will use MCP’s 3 charges and then go to your for-trash weapon (Flurry Axe, Blade of Hanna etc), after the 90 seconds. If it’s a long fight you could use more than one MCP, but I don’t know when the breaking point is

Yeah Spelladin is not as fun as Shockadin, gotta admit.

What I’m seeing here is very interesting though and leads me to believe that the main problem with Ret Paladins is they got to 60 not realizing they misclicked at character creation and are not in fact an Arms Warrior. /sarcasm

I could see this being actually good so I’m staying tuned in.

Interesting stuff, Therolas.

So care to explain why the guy in the first video is using multiple buffs that can’t exist together?

What do the talents look like?

yeah, he has way too many elixirs. That’s super inflated #'s

Even some of those buffs count as elixirs and battles; not to mention you can’t use a flask with another flask.

Yeah. Idk theres flasks and elixirs so.

Not to mention how many battle elixirs? lol also if you watch it again he has sunder and FF on the boss which cant exist together.

I ran something similar to this back in the day when I completed my Paladin’s tier 2 set. You were basically a healer with a load of armor, HP, and very decent damage. It was pretty OP.

I hate to be the guy defending theoloras, but I see 3 spell power potions that all stacked.

Shadow Power
Fire Power
Arcane Elixir
All stack.

Not sure where everyone’s getting their info on flasks not stacking with other consumables. But everything on there looks possible. Retarded amount of consumables to pull off “okay” dps, yes, but if you really wanna farm 30-60 MCPs a week then go ahead.

Sunder and FF can and did exist together.

Thats right, the power pots and elixirs stack.

But his FOSP at the beginning negates the 2 elixir’s he’s using XD

https://wowwiki.fandom.com/wiki/Elixir

Guardian elixirs do not stack with other guardian elixirs and battle elixirs do not stack with other battle elixirs. This means if you currently have the effect of one battle elixir, and you consume another battle elixir, the new effect will replace the old one. You can only have one battle and one guardian elixir active at one time.

What you are actually thinking about it consumables that give a similar effect such as stacking a single form of buff do not work.

Edit: In regards to Sunder and FF existing together they did not stack, they would visualizing show but not work. You can search that one, I am not digging up that archive it crashed me when I went into 2005.

Every guide on debuffs i’ve gone through for vanilla said they did stack. It wasn’t until TBC where FF was made to be a duplicate of sunder that they definitely didn’t stack.
