Our labors are far from complete.

In the years following the War of Thorns, the Helping Hands coalition, guided by the request of kaldorei, labored to build trade routes and acquire resources for the peoples of northern Kalimdor affected by the war. Their efforts bore fruit, and the regions began stocking the supplies delivered to them.

Over the years of working with the Councils of the Forests of Darkshore, Ashenvale, and Hyjal, Helping Hands secured its members limited, supervised passage into Kaldorei territories for the purpose of providing aid. However, some wounds never healed, and others have arisen in time. Now, the coalition gathers once more with their allies and the peoples they wish to aid, opening their ears to all who wish to raise their voices and concerns and guide Helping Hands’ path once more.

What shall we undertake next?

Ishnu'alah!

Thanks for reading!

What is Helping Hands?

Helping Hands is a public campaign centered on a coalition of peace-advocates by the same name. They seek to build relations between the Kaldorei and the Horde by resolving actions that both parties agreed to address, focusing their efforts in Kalimdor and other key areas.

Our players choose what events we do, and we feature both peaceful and combat events. For 2023, we’ll be based in Northern Kalimdor! We are currently considering events around themes such as rebuilding Darkshore, the Shatterspear Tribe, faction conflicts in Ashenvale, cleansing corruption, satyrs, furbolgs, and more! We’re also looking at events for anti-peace characters!

Sample of Possible Events
(Not final/confirmed, example-only)
  • Studying a tainted glade in Felwood.
  • Hosting negotiations between the Shatterspear and Kaldorei.
  • Investigating a disease in Mulgore wildlife.
  • Stopping a satyr cult.
  • Reconstructing a kaldorei town.
  • Cleansing a forest, so wisps may extract wood for lumber.

Who can come?

Anyone, especially those with an interest in Kalimdor RP!

While Helping Hands is particularly focused on peace-building, we welcome and encourage characters with a wide variety of view points. The War of Thorns was painful, and forgiveness comes slow - if at all. IC Conflict is the stuff of stories, so we welcome butting heads - as long as everyone stays respectful!

Looking for Speakers!

We’ll start with a few speeches from leadership, and maybe returning NPCs, to help frame the situation. However, after, we’ll open the floor for participants to share their thoughts on long-term peace! Is there anything we need to focus on? Is it even possible? With our campaign being in Northern Kalimdor, does your character with to request help for anything in that area? This year’s will be rather open, so we can get input from post-timeskip participants.

Speeches should be kept to 10 minutes in-length, and no more! If you’re interested in having a character share their thoughts, please contact me! Unsure? No worries! Once all per-registered speakers are finished, any remaining time will be opened to walk-up speakers in the order which they volunteer.

Additional Details

IC Background

In conversations with the Horde immediately following the Fourth War, the kaldorei demanded action as reparation for the War of Thorns and Burning of Teldrassil. Many Horde-affiliate groups offered aid, so the Kaldorei gathered among themselves to deliberate. Though they rejected direct assistance, they produced a list of actions they’d like to see resolved. They met with the Horde in the shadows of the Nighthold and agreed on which they’d address: destroying Blight stores, manufacturing medical supplies, rescuing souls from the Maw, and restoring arid lands.

They decided to start with destroying Blight stores. In this, they found a Blight-tainted barrow den in Ashenvale. While cleansing it, they encountered a Blight alchemist, Celestine Sorrowsong, performing experiments on the corpses of the druids that once slumbered there. They chased her away, removed the Blight from the den, and cleansed a nearby lake. From there, they cut off her supply lines and pursued her to Lordaeron. Though she initially had the upper hand, they eventually apprehended her. A jury of Horde, Alliance, and neutrals found her to be guilty of multiple war crimes and sentenced her to execution after the crisis in the Shadowlands resolved itself.

After reconvening once more, the kaldorei in attendance requested a drastic change. Rather than reject direct aid, they actively asked for it. It was, by-in-large, the overwhelming majority vote, so the Coalition started their efforts. Over several years, they traveled the world, striking deals, fixing problems, resolving conflicts, and building a trade network to get supplies flooding into Darkshore, Ashenvale, and Mt. Hyjal. Now, with the materials they need, they turn their attention to putting them to use.

Is IC Conflict permitted?

Of course! I fully hope that there is some tension between characters! Working to resolve the distrust is a large part of the event series! However, I would be remiss if I allowed excessive conflict to derail multiple events. With that said, if you are bringing a character that you believe will have an exceptionally poor reaction to the opposing faction or peace-building activities, I do ask that you contact me OOCly prior to the event, so we can discuss. Due to demand, we’re currently investigating building event infrastructure to accommodate those very characters!

Please understand that the DM(s) of any event maintain OOC control over any combat RP. Guards may be empowered with the ability to power-game for the purpose of roleplaying the prompt, IC removal of belligerents from the discussions. That is to say, for this event, they can take action to remove belligerents without needing to “attempt” or roll. They will automatically succeed on removing belligerent characters. If the guards are ignored, I will instruct attendees to ignore belligerent characters. Again, this is for the sake of maintaining the purpose of the event, so please respect that.

Of course, OOC aggression or other belligerent OOC behavior will not be tolerated, and such players will be promptly ignored.

Combat System

This was originally inspired by the Year of the Scourge combat system, then the Helping Hands system was incorporated into the Year of the Scourge system. This year, we are expanding the combat system to include character customization options! More information soon!

Combat System

New Paths Conclusion

New Paths was originally intended to be a multi-year, globe-spanning campaign about resolving local problems all across Azeroth, in exchange for different groups providing support for the Kaldorei.

At least, that was the plan… Right up until a timeskip was announced.

So, Helping Hands was faced with a tough decision: what did we do in the timeskip? We were supposed to be working across the world, but… that was the campaign. Did the campaign just happen in the background? That sounds lame.

At the conclusion of New Paths for 2022, we polled our community for feedback and opinions on a path forward. Those who responded were overwhelmingly eager to go to Northern Kalimdor. Prior to this, Northern Kalimdor was ICly “off-limits”, due to the Kaldorei still being too wounded and angry to accept Horde aid directly.

However, Azeroth is imaginary, and our player’s enjoyment is not. With the timeskip, it’s been seven, in-universe years (and five IRL ones, don’t let that haunt you) since the War of Thorns. Though that is no time at all to mend all the wounds, it is plenty of time for a determined diplomat to negotiate conditions for some supervised, humanitarian aid.

So, given that feedback, rather than deal with clunky timeskip fumbling, the decision was made to time skip through the rest of New Paths, and bring us into the new year with a new campaign!

We’re less than a week away! Super excited to get started for 2023!

:speaking_head: LOOKING FOR: Speakers! :speaking_head:

After updates from leadership PCs and maybe some recurring NPCs as well, we’ll be turning to our participants to give their opinions. This will be a little more freeform than previous summits. The topics are anything related to peace-keeping or Northern Kalimdor!

  • Is peace achievable? Is it desirable?
  • What needs to be done to achieve peace?
  • Does your character have a request for help or aid?

Speeches should be kept to 10 minutes! If you’re interested, please message me! Any and all characters are allowed to speak!

After all characters who registered to speak have spoken, the remaining time will be given to any walk-up, ad-hoc speeches, and we will get to as many as we can before we need to conclude (probably around 8:00PM-8:30PM WrA). So, if you think you might want to say something, sign up now!

:dagger: LOOKING FOR: Antagonists! :dagger:
If your character would like to fight the coalition, to try and hamper any peace efforts, please message me! There will be architecture to support antagonist characters! We’ve got a team of antagonist Kaldorei already rolling! Please let me know if you are interested!

There was a last minute change of plans.

And since so many really liked Dahote’s speech last night, I thought I would post it here for everyone to see.

“Greetings to everyone here. Many of you know me but some may not. I am Sunwalker Dahote of the Wolfmane. I have some words I would like to share here after the previous speaker.”

“My people… We heard the rumblings of war. We knew that conflict was on the horizon. Our Chieftain, Karanga, did not… She feared what that storm would do to our people. We are not as many as the Horde or the Alliance.”

“Elder Huwah says that not even the wisest can see all paths or what lay upon those paths. What was to come was beyond any nightmare we have experienced.”

“We were about to board a ship for distant lands to seek the Earthmother’s wounds. It is our duty to do so. That was when news of the war first reached us.”

“I had never seen Darkshore. I had never seen Teldrassil.”

“But I wanted to travel there. I wanted to go. Everything that I was at that time told me to go. Not for the Horde though. But for the Kaldorei.”

“However, many of us feared what would happen if we stood against the Horde. If even a single Wolfmane was discovered to have fought against them. Chieftain Karanga forbade us to go. I regret that I did not disobey her. I doubt I would have been able to change anything besides being another to fall in battle.”

“One of the reasons I asked to be made the next chieftain was so I could do something. We watched as the war progressed. I proposed a plan to hide our people while I lead our braves against the warchief.”

“We fought hard. Not only to weaken her but to keep ourselves hidden. Then the Scourge came again. We fought to protect Ashenvale. I nearly fell in the final battle there. When Priestess Lyastei founded this group, I wholeheartedly committed myself to it. I proposed that my people do the same.”

“Long ago I made a promise in Moonglade that I would. And I am here to keep that promise.”

“I am sorry I was not there. LIke the previous speaker said, I did nothing. But since then, I have done as much as I could have. I will continue to do so. I know not all will be kind or thankful. I understand how they feel. I do not expect to change their hearts.”

I only wish to help the Kaldorei recover and rebuild. I do not require thanks or forgiveness.

Priestess Lyastei, I thank you for giving me this opportunity to do this. So much of it. Without you, I would not have been able to help as many as I have.

*Lyastei turns her body and smiles to Dahote, bowing deeply to him. "Sunwalker, you were there the very first night. At the Azeroth Peace Council’s Summit, when I demanded action not words. And you were among the first to step forward. You have been nothing but a dear friend and a powerful ally for years. Words fail to express the thanks I have for all you and the Wolfmane have given me and my people. Shaha lor’ma.” The Kaldorei bows. *
Lyastei bows before you.

Dahote places a fist to his chest to salute the Priestess. He then looks out to the gathering, "And I thank everyone for being here this evening. I am most thankful that we are all here and ready to do what we can for the Kaldorei. I look forward to working alongside you. To fighting at your side to make a difference. Isnhe’alo por’ah.”

A scrolls is delivered to all who would be interested!

Plain Text Information Addressed to All Interested Parties,

Having gathered within the heartglade of Desolace, Helping Hands has once more convened to choose our paths for the coming months. We were met by representatives of the Councils of the Forests of Darkshore, Ashenvale, and Hyjal, who informed us thus:

In general, the elemental unrest agitated the wounds carved by the Cataclysm. Enraged elementals spring forth once more.

Darkshore has a surplus of supplies, but not enough people to put them to use. Many are still without home. Runoff Blight threatens the forest, and the Shatterspear trolls suffer from strange attacks by displaced animals.

Ashenvale is well supplied and stable. Supply caravans to Darkshore are being attacked, and possibly by rogue Warsong Outriders. If left unresolved, this aggression may threaten the Armistice.

On Hyjal, Sulfuron Spire is active once more, spewing lava into the recovering forests. The strained refugee population is threatened by a strange disease suspected to stem from the Emerald Nightmare.

Our coalition has decided to first turn their efforts to the peaks of Mount Hyjal. May fate guide us in our endeavors.

Zin-al Elune,
Lyastei Starbreeze
Priestess of Elune

Helping Hands enters into our third year, taking on the challenges that face us in Northern Kalimdor! We begin on the summit of Mount Hyjal: helping build homes for refugees, drive off elementals disturbed by the Primalist awakening, and tend to a strange disease which has infected the resident.

Currently, our schedule is this:

Weekday Date Event
Friday March 24 Training with updated combat system!
Wednesday March 29 Survey the activity around Sulfuron Spire!
Sunday April 2 Visit the infected in the Barrow Dens.
Friday April 7 Inspect Hyjal summit for signs of the Nightmare.
Tuesday April 11 Ward the base of the summit against fire!

Most events start at 5PM WrA! For an invite, whisper Lyastei-WyrmrestAccord (Alliance)! It will help to join our In-Game Community! As always, our Discord is first to be updated, so check it out!

Excited to see you all there!
