Dozens of users (most appear to be on Grobbulus/Skyfury/Atiesh) are experiencing an issue where they cannot login to a specific character and are receiving the “character with that name already exists” error when attempting to login to that character. It seems for most users, this issue started after a period of server lag/server crash in which connection to the server was disrupted around 7 PM server time (Grobbulus is on PST). For some users, they were stuck at the login screen for over 5 minutes trying to reconnect to the server. Eventually, individuals were able to log back into their accounts, but some characters remained “logged in” thus causing the issue.
Some users went through the suggested troubleshooting steps of resetting the interface, but this seems to be a server-side issue as it is lasting well over the ~30 minutes expected for a character logged in to time out and log off.
This is ridiculous tbh. Hours without a response, like just log out characters that have been without input for longer than the 30 minute auto log timer or whatever it is… I had stuff to prepare for tomorrow, which is kind of more important than most days… can’t remember why … something about the re-release of the peak of MMOs or something
It has been a few hours now and I still cannot login to finish my wrath prep. I’m on my shaman now getting catchup gear but I need to be able to play my hunter as all my gold and gear is on them.
I got in after ~4 hours. Leveled a DK to 60 and rechecked. Unsure if it was just waiting long enough or my “Stuck Character” tickets that resolved it finally.
Its been over 4 hours since this issue happened to me on Skyfury. Tried a character unstuck. but it still recognizes that the character is online. -Metroboom
