Experiencing the same issue. Upon recommendation of an experienced user, created a Bug Report to try and get the attention of devs. Link here:

Mass Error: WotLK Grobbulus/Skyfury/Atiesh “character with that name already exists” caused by server crash

Dozens of users (most appear to be on Grobbulus/Skyfury/Atiesh) are experiencing an issue where they cannot login to a specific character and are receiving the “character with that name already exists” error when attempting to login to that character. It seems for most users, this issue started after a period of server lag/server crash in which connection to the server was disrupted around 7 PM server time (Grobbulus is on PST).
