Classic TBC Servers down with no notice, again!

CS has no ability to grant Beta access to anyone. That is handled by QA, Devs, and Community.

Further, it would be unfair to only give access to people who posted vs all who were impacted. A lot of people would be left out, and it would encourage people to just spam post “me too” type things. Maint happens. It has happened for 17 years and will keep happening as long as games exist. They owe it to customers to continue to improve and fix their games - so there is going to be down time.

The messaging was poor this time though, which is not normal, so hopefully whatever happened with that does not happen again.

Ill speak for myself only when i say i only really get frustrated when people jump in here and try to act like were in the wrong (not CS).
I certainly wasn’t notified idk why anyone would argue my own viewpoint with me.
but i appreciate all the replies and talk.
Might be time to update that ETA

BTW, they don’t do ETAs, reason being that folks like to come here and yell about going over time by a minute and flooding the CS forum. The blues here already have their hands full when something goes wrong and needing to field things as is, they don’t need folks wanting ETAs, telling them they gone over the ETA, wanting X for Y because the ETA wasn’t met, etc.

if blizzard has the same people on the forums scouring posts as fixing the game we have a problem.

What people who are looking for answers don’t need is a member of the public with no relations to blizzard trying to resolve their issues by responding with zero information on the topic.

Also i dont think anyone in here is yelling or even irate. maybe a little frustrated but thats literally what the CS forums are filled with is irritated players with CS complaints.

If you’re looking for something to do with your time try sunshine and grass as the people in your troop like to say.

what bothers me more is that the banner says “scheduled maintenance”

This wasnt scheduled and theres been no communication on the issue, just trying to pass this off as “we knew maintenance was today the whole time, and we knew it was ganna be a few hours… we just ya know… didnt tell anyone”

But…they do. For Maintenance, which this is, they do give an estimated time. That time can change, obviously, but they do give an ETA. It is on the launcher and CS Twitter.

No, the engineers, server folks, Devs, etc. have nothing to do with the communications sides of the house. Even the public facing roles are handled by several different groups.

It was scheduled, only the notice didn’t make it to the appropriate breaking news to let folks know.

Folks, I understand the frustration but could we stop with the back and forth, this isn’t at all productive.

Oh no! Another hour
Good luck on your oversight on the thread, and keeping your cool, tough gig for CS
…bring up the WOTLK beta keys, or sign of good faith with the department heads; maybe there is more upside than down for productive commentary !

Posting here for a beta key for a minor inconvienience wont get you anywhere u want compensation post in TBCC general forums tho the odds of getting a key for a few hours of down time which is covered in the TOS is extremly low.

So you’re saying there’s a chance…

You have better odds of winning the lottery.

I saw no banner until the hour after the “maintenance” began. Communication today has been very poor from Blizz to subscribers. If you don’t actually know when the servers will be back up, why not just say so? That would be much preferred over making false statements about 9am, 10am, 11, am, now up to 12 noon PST. Why not just say “We’re sorry but we do not know when the servers will be back up & running”, and actually inform subscribers instead of stringing them along?

They need to stop increasing the downtime. The regularly scheduled Maintenance was YESTERDAY not today. First servers will be up by 9:00am PDT, then they change it to 11:00am PDT, now you changed it to 12:00 PDT. What’s next 4:00pm PDT? They should have done all this crap YESTERDAY when you brought the servers down for Maintenance.

Its not as easy as flipping a switch they still have to do internal testing to make sure nothing broken and if there is they have to extend it.

Neither is waiting all day for the server to come back up when they should have done all this yesterday with the normal Maintenace.

isnt that convenient, unposted “scheduled maintenance” that CS didnt know about was scheduled the whole time

The other alternative is to lock the thread completly and vrak will update when there up.

Yes, as we noted later in this thread it seems the breaking news was posted in the wrong section. It was later corrected, apologies.

That isn’t how that works. The folks performing maintenance have a basic idea how long it should take, that is the original estimate. If it needs to be extended, it is extended by the amount of time that they estimate it should take to resolve the unexpected issue and bring realms back up.

Again, that isn’t really how that works. They would have completed the work they are doing today if that were possible. In many cases issues come up during one maintenance that they cannot immediately take care, so it is scheduled for the next day or at some other time during the week. There are also situations in which something that needs to be done is waiting on another task that may not be able to be done until another time, in which the maintenance has to be scheduled after.

CS was aware of the scheduled maintenance. As previously noted by others, it was posted, it just was posted in the wrong place by mistake.

If you put it that way it makes sense.

Thank you for saying so, Sernia. Believe me, if we could do it all at one time we absolutely would. The thing I’ve learned over the years is that we seem to always be working to improve various aspects of the game and the servers that run it, it is a constant undertaking. It is a really good thing that we do, but there is the occasional side effect of things not going exactly as planned once you “get under the hood”, as it were.

I’ll be sure to pass on what updates I can. Thank you all!
