Cost Efficiency: Kerrigan

Below are tables breaking down all of the units for the commander, comparing their HP and DPS versus their various costs. Largely provided for entertainment purposes .

Kerrigan

Queen of Blades

Ground

This is naturally not including Kerrigan’s Mutating Carapace, as there’s no way to quantify it in the table.

Air

Static

Please note that these all boil things down to simple numbers, there are lots of variables that effect how things actually play out in game as well.

Any upgrades not mentioned (such as attack/armour upgrades and upgrades like Firebat Juggernaut Armour) are already included in the charts.

Super calldowns (like Hyperion) and Heroes I’ll be assigning a cost as well, the same as Tychus’ Outlaws, for the sake of comparison.

If I’ve missed anything, please let me know. With so many numbers I’m bound to miss things as I go.

Raynor: Renegade Commander

Kerrigan’s Chain reaction does not give any Carapace Bonus and Weakened by Armour values.
I with the developers would make chain reaction be proportional of 25% (or 30%) to her total attack.
Kerrigan’s attack mastery of 30% also needs to go up by 45%
I know I bring up Chain Reactions and Mastery whenever Kerrigan is involved, but I have problems with these because these powers doesn’t improve Kerrigan significantly.

Chain Mastery is self explanatory, She attacks fast I know but whats the point if the bounce deal 5 or less damage Per bounce and doesn’t give any carapace heal when other abilities do.

Attack speed and ability mastery only noticeable when fully invested. I’d rather invest in Upgrade speed and discount to get my armies ready as soon as possible.

Kerrigan provides a perfect example of this, because on paper, her Zerglings have some of the most insane cost efficiencies in the game and would be her best unit…if they could survive long enough to actually deal most of that damage out.

I dont disagree, but i think kerrigan is currently one of the best brutal+ commanders. Partly because of her omega worms, but also because of her hero strength. Giving her chain reaction damage proportional to her main attack DPS and have it affect her carapace also sounds like a recipe for OPness.

I also almost always take expeditious evolutions, but not because the attack speed and ability damage mastery is bad in itself… the mastery is actually really really good.

Its more because expeditious evolutions feels like the most powerful mastery in all of coop. Other commanders may get 60% upgrade cost reduction (Raynor) or upgrade time reduction (Abathur) but kerrigan gets both.

Kerri is my favorite commander btw. so don’t take this as an OP whine.

Not just “some of”… her zerglings are the highest DPS units per supply and also per cost. And not just by a bit - by far. There are no contesters. The only thing that comes even remotely close are Zagaras swarmlings, and only in terms of cost.

Even with their limited lifetime, their DPS makes up for it if you have enough and there is no or limited enemy AoE. Otherwise you can keep them in your omega worms and unload ontop of the enemy after using immobilization wave. They also are very nice with Artanis and also with Karaxs passive buff. Also extremely fun with Vorazun… watch out for Timestop and unloading 100 zerglings in the middle of enemy fortifications.

Of course if you have one of the 90% of expert Vorazun players out there who use Timestop for the first time at 15:00 that greatly diminishes your zerglings usefulenes… but that is not because raptorlings are bad… but because your ally is.

Somewhat ironically, out of the various Zerglings, Kerri’s are also the best to mass in terms of damage output due to their leap ability. Far more of them get into the fray quickly compared to the others.

Not much reason to dump mineral into lings unless you looking to take down bases fast. Problem with lings is they’re to weak unless you invest in their upgrades. And I’d rather spend that gas on units that can , u know actually Stay alive…

To be fair, depending on how much mastery you get to cheapen the research it can cost you just over one Ultralisk in gas to get the Lings researched up. With 30 mastery in both gas reduction and research cost, it’s still less than 2 Ultras.

Shredding Claws really help out Hydras and Mutas’ damage output too.

Overall though yeah, especially depending on enemy comp and mutators, Lings can end up being useless.

Speaking of which, where are the ultralisk stats?

And wow, I never realized how insane zergling DPS is. No wonder these things instantly delete trains now.

Ultras are up now!

I could have sworn… Here I was thinking I actually pulled it off this time…

Try them on oblivion express or part and parcel on the bonus trains for example. You’d be amazed how few upgraded zerglings you need to take the trains down. It’s great to have 20 zerglings deal with the bonus while your main army is doing something else.

Or on dead of night - they eat through infested buildings like its cotton candy.

Also mixing in a dozen zerglings into any of kerrigans army compositions is always a good idea - even if you face high AoE enemies. They distract fire from your gas units. And even if they die fast, their leap ability almost always guarantees they will get to hit enemies once or twice. Which means their shredding claws debuf reduces their armor to 0 for 10s… Yeah, I would take that deal. It means +33% damage buff to your hydralisks DPS against 3 armored targets. And more for mutalisks and against higher armor targets.

For example, one may think that zerglings are really bad against ultralisks or colossi. And yes, massing them is bad… but having a few is great. The trick is to constantly keep rebuilding some… almost like banelings.

Broodlord HP value updated, they’re pretty tanky now but is it really enough to make them as good as her other comps?
