People really donāt want to play things that just win because better. You see this in QP, people avoid the meta tanks, they donāt play them.
And as far as subjective, we are talking about subjective concepts such as fun. Unless you have surveys or something we have no objective anything to talk about on those topics.
You basically admitted earlier in this very thread that you dont care about convincing dps players to play tank. From profile stalking itās clear that feedback from dps players has been overwhelmingly negative across the board in every thread you post your idea in.
Where exactly are these extra tanks going to come from? It sure doesnāt look like itās from the dps playerbase.
Usually my long term memory is good, but Iām drawing a blank on one of the really dumb ideas I saw on here by a top 500 player(not in Lucioball or arcade modes either).
I donāt think that the idea of making tanks more like DPS to draw more people to tank is dumb, just short sighted. Itās his insistence that his view on it is a fact that I consider to be dumb.
Yeah, and that is fine. I shouldnāt have deleted a line I had there earlier. So here it is. āHomogenizing tanks by making them more like DPS might bring in a few people, but it will drive away moreā. We need tanks who can protect their team more directly like Rein and we need more beefy DPS types like Roadhog and Wreckingball. Making all tanks like one or the other will satisfy very few players in the long run. One part that draws people to DPS is variety, itās not the only thing, but it certainly helps a lot. We have very little of that in tank and support.
You said it yourself; meta tanks are boring. Youāre conflating a hero being boring with being powerful, and I donāt think thatās productive.
I hated the moth meta, because I dislike playing Mercyā¦yet she was almost always a necessary pick.
I liked Moira being the go-to carry healer pre heal nerf, because I enjoyed playing her.
Feel free to dislike heroes for whatever reason you want, but saying āmeta = boringā as a blanket statement lacks effort at best, and is misleading at worst.
Iām not the one saying āyouāre wrongā for having an opinion on whatās fun. Itās not that Iām arguing objectively, itās that I state my differing opinion as a disagreement rather than the ārightā opinion. See:
Big difference between saying an opinion is wrong, and that you disagree with it. But this is a side topicā¦
Anyways, if we go 1-2-2 or 1-3-2, I hope that Blizzard buffs all tanks to be more interesting and fun. Doesnāt need to be a ton, since needing less tanks will already shift team balance, but games should always prioritize gameplay that feels goodā¦and heroes like Reinhardt/Orisa right now donāt seem to fit that for many players.
Orisa has always been my go-to tank, even when everyone was tired of playing her, so Rein is a bigger issue for me personally.
Oh no doubt. Iād wager making Tanks have more carry potential will probably make a good 1-2% of the DPS playerbase quit entirely.
But thatās better than having 25-50% of all players quit the game because queue times are horrible.
Just because these guys are too blind to see that, doesnāt really change the facts of the matter.
And scratching the surface of the problem in a way that has no impact on DPS isnāt going to have large enough effect to the problem.
(I.e. A bit of CC resistance)
People arenāt blind to it at all. They just disagree that your ideas would have any significant impact on queue times and would make the game worse to play for most people. Iāll ask for the 3rd time. Where are the extra tank players going to come from?
This doesnāt sit well with me. You occasionally do have some good ideas but making comments like this is unnecessarily cocky. Iām not saying that devs shouldnāt take your suggestions, but this is one of the few issues I have when seeing you on the forums.
Not everyone is going to like your ideas/thoughts. Showing your balance changes to other threads isnāt always necessary either, but maybe thatās just me.
Hi. I disagree with you too. I dont fall into what you just described.
I dont care how powerful or weak my hero is in comparison to others in the same role or in other roles. Iāll play him regardless. You could buff tanks to absolute God mode with 5000hp and 1 shot abilities. I still wouldnt play them. The playstyle isnāt fun to me.
I disagree with your idea because I dont think it would make dps players change to tank. That makes it pointless because it wouldnāt solve anything.
Thatās an awfully high horse youāre on. Your ideas arenāt the only options available.
Well, I got about 40 changes put into another game called as PlanetSide. Including writing a miniaturized installer that was downloaded over 30,000 times. That was later copied by the devs.
Previously wrote a server modification for another class based shooter called TRIBES, with about 40 servers running it, and tournament play for years with about 25 teams.
And I can point to a wide number of changes that line up with ideas Iāve posted. A lot of which are highly technical and very specific.
Probably all 4 of the most recent Mei changes, the Double Headshot changes on McCree, the weighted ticket system for owl hero pools, limiting the hero pools to Masters/GM/Pro based on OWL pickrate.
Heck, I even have a concept that is basically hero pools.
To put it simply, thereās probably more of my ideas in the game, than the rest of the forum community combined.
And I have a pretty strong background in class based shooter game design from other games.
Skimming through some of your posts in this thread,
You seem like a capable person, but your ego doesnāt help anyone here; ideas are their own currency. As someone who has posted ideas/suggestions/feedback on Blizzard forums for 15+ years over multiple games, my ego still gets in the way, and in the end I end up needing to remind myself of that. Me needing to reference those 15 years is further proof that my ego is involved.
I used to keep track of changes I suggested getting into OW, but I stopped caring as much since I donāt play as much. Not saying you shouldnāt be proud of your efforts, but a lot of the time there are more people suggesting these things than you or I think/see.
I agree with this more than I disagree. Main downside is obviously how much itād change the fundamentals of the game, but could also possibly make OW2 actually feel like a new game.
Limiting teams to 1 tank and making them more fun/interesting to play seems to be at least worth experimenting on furtherā¦and now Iām eagerly awaiting 1-3-2 or 1-2-2 in experimental again.
