Looking at the current tutorial, It really leaves a lot to be desired, Its extremely barren, and does not explain anything at all, So, lets try to improve it shall we?
Also, The training range needs a significant rework in order to make it better so lets start
THE TUTORIAL
starting with the tutorial, the tutorial currently teaching you the following:
- How to look arround with the mouse
- How to move arround
- How to use all of soldier 76 abilities & ultimate
- How to capture a point
And, That is incredibly barren, and i dare to say that the tutorial is completly useless in what it teaches the player, So lets rework it,
Im going to approach the tutorial as a little mini story, So sit and relax as i tell how i would do it:
-
“Welcome Soldier 76, You have been out for quite some time, Lets review the basics before you go back to the field…To help you with that, we have brought tracer to help you”
-
" ahem we have brought TRACER to help you"
-
Tracer: Sorry im late! Tracer dashes in the tutorial room
-
“Jack, Try to look arround and follow tracer with your mouse”
-
“Great, Now Try to keep up with her as she moves arround the facility”
-
“Well done Jack! Now tracer will guide you to the next part of your training regimen”
-
Guided by tracer, who proceeds to recall away after, soldier reaches the training range
-
“Here is your old equipment Jack, Do you remember how to use it?”
-
All of soldier 76 abilities are unlocked, Including the GUI
-
“Down at the bottom of the screen, You see the GUI, Thats the portrait of the character you are currently playing, Next to it is your health, If it reaches to cero, You will die, At the right, You see your ammo counter, and your abilities, Each hero has a set of different stats and abilities, You have Three, Helix rockets, a long range proyectile that deals damage and hits all enemies nearby, Your biotic field, which heals you, and your sprint ability which you can use to run faster, Get used to them and go to the glowing spot once you are done”
-
segment where the player has free will for a while to try the abilities out on a few bots shooting at them
-
“Remember that there are a lot more heroes to try, after you are done, Head to the training range to get used to their Kits”
-
once player approaches the glowing spot, the entire place turns red, and starts flashing with an alarm sounding "Oh no! Agent, My scanners detect the presence of talon towards your area! Hold your ground!
-
few generic talon soldiers appear doing little to no damage to the player just for tutorial reasons, Once dispatched
-
"Agent, The talon soldiers are targetting that console nearby you, Protect it! objective marker appears arround a console, and more talon soldiers pop up, in an attempt to capture the objective, this segment should last 20 - 30 or so seconds to one minute
-
“Good job agent, Now we must take care of their transport before they call for reinforcements! A payload with a bomb on it appears from the ground escort this cargo towards their transport and blow it up!”
-
The player proceeds to push a payload for a while as soldiers randomly spawn to attack
-
the player arrives almost at the transport for talon, until it abruptly stops
-
Reaper: “DEATH COMES”
-
“Agent! Its one of talons elite soldiers! he´s trying to stop you! defeat him!”
-
the player proceeds to defeat the reaper AI, pushes the payload, which blows up the transport
-
“Good job jack, We couldnt have done this without you, Its good to have you back”
END OF TUTORIAL
player is brought to menu screen in the “training” part, where a new option opens up, saying “Other tips” Once clicked on it, a little list of videos explaining other in-game features not said in the tutorial, For example
- “Different types of health” (armor, shields, temporal armor and temporal shields)
- “Different gamemodes” (explains all the different main modes, the arcade, and its modes. and comp)
- “Different roles” (Explains what each role has and their variations)
- ETC
With that done, Now to the training range:
Training range
The current training range is extremely barren an needs other stuff to make it relevant, For starters, these are some examples
-
Erratic moving bots, the current bots always move on the same pattern, and it doesnt help in training at all
-
Flying bots that fly at different heights and distances and move arround, This could help in practicing vs flying enemies
-
Bots with Armor, to test for damage
-
Bots that actually move and shoot back at the player to some degree, inestead of literally standing still,
-
Anything i missed
