Was wondering when we will see the release of the game editor. I remember either before or just after the game came out. Jeff talked about the editor coming 2-3 years after release ( I can’t remember where and can’t find it). Well we’re approaching the 3rd anniversary of the game. I know we have custom games settings but that was supposed to be a placeholder for the game editor.
Can we get a ballpark release date?
Also when the editor is released Myself and many others in the community would love to have the ability to use old abilities removed from the game. I would go back as far as Bastion’s frontal barrier since it was the first thing removed.
Being able to have multiple versions of heroes playable at the same time would be cool too. For example having all the versions of Symmetra, Mercy, Torbjorn able to go against each other.
It would be great to be able to craft heroes by using existing heroes with abilities from others. Even being able to tweak abilities so they have different effects added to them. Like giving Widow’s venom mine anti-heal while the poison is in effect.
I just want full creative freedom in messing around with heroes and their abilities.

I was thinking about smth similar, a map editor. But I think either way it would require 1 or 2 years of development, and be a difficult task for their coders, with a lot of bugfixing.
I was also thinking, when Overwatch’s Service comes to an end and the servers shut down, maybe Blizzard will make Overwatch and the engine open source and let still-passionate players host servers to still be able to play overwatch, and being able to modify overwatch.
I would love anything of that and can only hope
They talk about a lot of things.
At this point everyone should just realize it’s all talk.

I don’t think it’ll happen. It’s the same reason there’s no client side servers (which would instantly solve the toxicity “problem”)
Blizzard wants you to play the game how THEY want it to be played, and they want to observe and collect data from it.

It won’t happen, unfortunately. Otherwise game can live past it’s planned demise, and that’s not something Blizzard wants.
Jeff never said it would come out “soon” in fact he kinda leaded into it might come out as the last content in Overwatch
They mentioned somewhere that there were major issues releasing something like this. They wanted to, but they said it would take a lot of work to get it working
Such a coincidence we were just talking about this yesterday an now Jeff hits us with this!
Don’t get too excited, though. Their example with prototyping Overwatch heroes suggests, that they may stop doing even that…
What will be next, making Overwatch F2P game?
