Too Bad, So Sad. Flagged Already

Because this isn’t someone speaking in person where words can slip out without meaning to. A post allows someone to review it before hitting the ‘reply’/‘post’ button.

Yes but mostly no. Anyone can flag a post for any reason they wish, but actions taken against your account are not done at the sole whim of those players-- it must be agreed upon by a moderator.

If a flag is hidden, it still requires a moderator to review, it just means that multiple people (at least five, we think) thought it to be against the code of conduct. Or where I mentioned “yes” above, sockpuppeting. It is still up to the moderator to review at the end, but they do take action against verified sockpuppeting.

You are also still restricted to a certain number of flags per day, which is largely where sockpuppeting comes into play.

What “community complaint” thing? Do you mean flagging posts? If players feel that a post violates any of the Forum Code of Conduct, they’re welcome to use the flag option to report it.

It’s our responsibility as players to ensure that our posts are not in violation of those rules to begin with.

Also note, even if a thread is buried due to flags, it doesn’t mean that any account action has been taken or even that it has or is going to be removed. It just means people thought it might be a violation of the rules.

Yes, there are some who flag for other reasons, but that doesn’t mean that a post will receive any sort of account action.

Okay. Thanks.

Just to also add on to what Perl has also mentioned, abusing of the reporting option would also be someone switching between characters to flag the post over and over. Since we can’t see who flagged who, it is very speculative to even think someone is actually doing it, and would not be ideal to even go and accuse anyone of doing it.

For some things we do. For instance if you were to us inappropriate language, as long as it is spelled correctly you’ll mostly be warned that your post contains inappropriate language.

Once you post it though, you’ve violated our Code of Conduct. The point of a penalty system is to address that violation and hopefully dissuade the user from continuing to do so.

In your case, you very much would have circumvented any systems we have in place that would warn you against language. Looking at your last deleted post you appear to have used a sentence which folks use to stand in for a 4 letter vulgarity.

Note, that particular vulgarity normally would come with a penalty, but the deletion in this case was because it was not directed and meant as a warning.

Wow! (Not WoW). Really?

I think I know the one you mean, but I saw that used in one of the many posts I have read lately. If I had not seen it used that way and nothing said, I would have thought it okay?

Sorry, I do not know the thread it’s in, because I have read so many, but I wouldn’t have used it otherwise. I hate to say it, but since WoW is the only game I play, the only place I see stuff like that is here.

But okay, I’m down widdit. Thanx for explaining and I’ll do my best to not write that again.

Not “slop” while the origins of that word aren’t the cleanest, but it isn’t really tied to anything inappropriate. The other sentence has been around for years, but seems to be making a come back. Please feel free to report it if you see it used on these forums.

Appreciate it! Happy posting, Jonas.

Does that still apply if the reports are 100%, without a doubt, justified?

i.e. someone says something profane, using a method to circumvent the profanity filter and have the whole, uncensored word show up in their post.

Blues frown on sockpupeting and keepa eye out for that kinda thing.

Yes.

While we understand the desire to remove a post like that as quickly as possible, folks should still only report a post once.

Yes it can be. You can flag any post no matter what it says simply by logging in to multiple alts of yours and flagging it. Blizz catches you doing that, then they will suspend you from the forums though.

That was with the old forum system when we had dislikes and you could get a post flagged from too many dislikes and then it would get the yellow ! mark next to it and if you edited out the reason why you were flagged, then sometimes a forum mod would look at your post and if you rewrote it in a civil way then they could unflag it for you… they don’t do that anymore.

And not to mention the vast majority of people here will quote stuff you may say and offensive stuff too sometimes so even if you edit it out, their quote of you or your quote of them now no longer changes the way it used to change back when we had the old forum setup.

And you are acting very different from how you normally do, there Jonãs. You’re the one who always posts in the lounge and cheers everyone up there. You lose the ability to post there if you do not post on the forums for a while even if you do not get any account action. So then you just have to post on normal forums until you get your TL back up to be able to post there again.

Might I recommend the CS Forum “offtopic” thread, the CS Lounge? It’s just a friendly social thread with good company and good (virtual) refeshments.

It changes up monthly. The current incarnation is

Yes they do. They unflag posts all the time. However they can see the edit history so if someone is using edit to try to toss out a bad comment then hide it? They will action people for it.

This is true. Happens to me on occasion where a hidden post gets restored by the moderators. Flag whatever posts you feel warrant it. It’s even allowed to flag a post just because you don’t like the person posting. Happens to me all the time. And if you run out of flags, you can use a different character to flag more posts. But what you can NOT do is is use different characters to flag the SAME post multiple times in an effort to get it hidden.
