The Unofficial Stonemaul Ogre Playable Race Discussion Megathread!

As the new event is in Tanaris, don’t forget to take a look to the Dunemaul clan, part of the Horde, and ask them why we can’t still see them in Orgrimmar. Stonemaul clan wait them in Orgrimmar to become a full member of the Horde and finally becoming a playable race for the Horde with the Ogres coming from WoD. Time the Horde get this race as playable race with the Forest Trolls. :dracthyr_yay_animated:

Unfortunately during this event, the Dunemaul Clan is still stuck in Cataclysm, so they haven’t realized they’re kinda part of the Horde yet. I’d ask Megs Dreadshredder what she is doing with them, but she has been MIA since Cataclysm, so no luck there sadly. Hopefully we get answers of what the Horde Ogre clans are doing sooner than later…

As for the Warcraft Direct, I really don’t know what to expect. I assume it’s mostly a celebration of Warcraft as a whole, and if we get any announcements for Retail WoW, it would be TWW stuff. Probably the hinted area with more to do with the Harronir/Haranir if I were to guess.

Ogre related stuff would be great, but I don’t really know what it could be. As cool and fitting as it would be to finally get them as a playable Horde race as an announcement during that Direct, I feel like the chances are fairly low. Best to keep an open mind when watching it.

Also, I have yet to see that Ogre NPC pop up in the celebration area. Not like you can interact with them or anything I assume, but the event is very lacking in the Ogre representation department. Sigh…

Are the human-sized Draenor Ogre Model “Twilight Bodyguards” in the Blackrock Depths raid new?

might be an oversight on model sizes as blizz tends to add in npcs for roles and giving them absurd sizes notable named npcs have size inconsistencies but i think the ones in BRD weren’t implemented in properly or were meant to be dwarves then they changed em at the last second and forgot to upscale the model size

Size of models is very inconsistent in-game and as mentioned above, a lot of important NPC’s or dungeon/raid bosses are bigger than they normally would be so you can see them. At one point in Vanilla, I think Jaina was about twice as big as human characters for an example. Ogre mobs come in all sorts of sizes to where it’s very inconsistent.

As for that Ogre mob, I honestly don’t know. A long time ago, post Cataclysm, I tried to farm that raid solo and got lost, so I never got too far to see any Ogre mobs there. I looked up the mob in Wowhead’s Classic section, and there doesn’t seem to be an Ogre model for them. In the Retail section of the mob, however, there are a couple of Ogre models.

Not really sure if they were added in Cataclysm or something for this event. According to the Wowhead models, they seem to be wearing the Kovork outfit, which I assume was a model well past Cataclysm. If the mobs are small, they might be using the Draenor Ogre model which defaults to a smaller size when using glyph of disguise or the Kovork toy. Maybe Blizzard forgot to increase they size some when they added that mob at the time.

Regardless, an interesting find.

That’s very much the truth. We’ve got a range from the player sized Ogres from the Stonemaul Ogres in Brackenwall to giant ones like Imperator Mar’gok in the Highmaul raid.

With Hallow’s End going on in-game and Halloween coming up in a couple of days, I thought it would be a good time to go over the female Ogre Halloween mask again.

As you’re likely aware, there is a female Ogre mask you can get from one of the Hallow’s End vendors. It marks one of the very few appearances of female Ogres in-game:

Oddly enough, the icon for the mask on the vendor window isn’t a face of them, but instead a torso. Not sure how that came to be.

I seem to recall this mask was added a bit before Cataclysm. I remember quite the kerfuffle about the masks, since it showed off Worgen and Goblins as playable races, I think before they were announced. Blizzard quickly added other masks to go with it, which also caused speculation of some races becoming playable. Aside from Ogres, there were male and female masks of Naga and Vrykul masks.

Kinda funny how Ogres and Naga were among those, seeing as Metzen had wanted those races to become playable someday. Vrykul being there was also an interesting choice. Maybe they were planned to become playable someday around then, or maybe not. Who can say?

Regardless, it’s the closest we currently have at imagining what female Ogres could look like in-game. Obviously, graphics have since improved since then and should we see female Ogres, they would have updated models compared to whatever was used to design that mask.

Anyway, if you’re interested in checking out that mask or other masks, here are the Horde and Alliance vendors:

Part of me feels that we will see female Ogres appear someday. It’s a pretty big marketing potential (pun not intended but I’ll roll with it) that would generate quite the buzz. And of course, designing female Ogres would be a good start towards a playable Horde Ogre race.

We’ll keep an eye out for any female Ogre sightings or mentions and report them in here, of course!

Patch news to report today in both my megathreads! I’ll be editing some of the sections to first their megathread’s theme.

Patch 11.0.7’s contents has been revealed, with its hitting the PTR on October 31st:

The biggest part of the news is that we’ll be visiting Siren Isle:

An abandoned island that appears to have rotating enemies. They are Vrykul, Naga, and “pirates.” The video shows a Hozen at the pirates part, so I assume they’ll be of different races.

I’m guessing there could be some Ogre pirates of some sort. Of course, they’d be enemy Ogres in this case. I also assume there wouldn’t be any Horde Ogre shipwrights to help take us to the isle unfortunately, but I’ll keep an eye out for anything Ogre related in general just in case.

Next, much to the delight of some and the chagrin of others, is a return of Plunderstorm early next year:

It’s suppose to take place in the Arathi Highlands again. Don’t expect much in the way of Ogres, aside from the group of enemy Ogres in that area of course. Also with new rewards, I’m guessing I’ll have to sacrifice myself many times to the storm or to bloodthirsty PvPers until I get the rewards within. Fun times. :pirate_flag: :parrot:

We’ll also be seeing the “fate of the Kirin Tor,” a story prologue in the next patch, and also Elf ear customization for Humans and Kul Tirans:

New customization options for existing playable races is always a good thing!

As usual, I’ll be keeping an eye out for any Ogre sightings, for better or worse. Still hope to see the Horde Ogre clans again someday…

Happy Halloween! :jack_o_lantern:

I’ve talked some about the MU Stonemaul Clan having some Hallow’s End decorations in Dustwallow Marsh and Feralas. You can see the post here:

Still hoping the Horde Ogre clans can celebrate Hallow’s End with the Horde someday!

Whatever plans y’all have today, please have a fun, happy, and safe Halloween! :jack_o_lantern: :japanese_ogre:

Happy Halloween All!

One of the scariest things is that we still don’t have playable Ogres.

Rexxar is involved with the Bronze Celebration via the Guest Relations quest chain.

So far it’s only been minor, but as the quest chain continue to unfolds he could have a more of a presence.

I’m personally hoping that we could see Rexxar and Lantressor interact with one another.

Meanwhile some races like Drathyr and Earthen couldn’t be death knight because there is no lich king, some other ones, if they become playable, should be able to become death knight because they were here when the lich king was still here so they should be raised as death knight. Here is a list of what races I have in my mind to become death knight if we get them as playable race:

  • Broken
  • Forest Troll
  • Furbolg
  • Gilgoblin
  • Jinyu
  • Mok’Nathal
  • Mogu
  • Ogre
  • Saurok
  • Sethrak
  • San’layn
  • Taunka
  • Tuskarr
  • Vrykul

they need to make this for the alliance. it would shock the horde

Shock would not be the right word. Furious would be more appropriate.

Regarding Death Knights, I am of the opinion that we will see Death Knights open up for all races, current and future, at some point. Even with the whole Crown of Wills thing, I’m sure something will be written to explain how new Death Knights are being made. And hopefully so, since I and others want Death Knights to be available to future playable races.

Today starts the new month of Trading Post items, which all seem to be transmog items:

The only thing that had any semblance of relating to Ogres I saw was this armor set:

“Simple armor created for use by Dire Maul Arena gladiators.”

I’m assuming with it relating to the arena in Dire Maul, it’s referring to the Gordunni Clan operating it. Not really sure if the arena was there before with the original inhabitants or not.

It doesn’t really look Ogre-like to me, whether they wear it or make it for the gladiators, but I figured it was worth a mention. I’ll keep an eye out for anything else Ogre-related in future Trading Post catalogues!

New thread just dropped for Meeksi!

With Orweyna on the splash screen for 11.0.7, speculation is we’ll get the Harronir in 11.1. If that’s the case, I’m hoping that there’s more of an explanation than “off screen invitation” like with the Earthen.

Now I can easily see Blizzard announce 3 playable races (Horde, Alliance, and Neutral), so it doesn’t worry me. Though there is apart of that wonders if Blizzard would have the Harronir be a focus, with faction specific races in 11.1.5.
