High world latency big lagg when in raids

So I been having high World latency, low home latency when I’m in combat , or in a raid fighting a boss.

I did a tracert and this is my results.

Could someone help me. Is this on blizzards end or my ISP and what do I need to tell my ISP?

I downloaded the WINMTR program and recorded a session in islands and my latency spiked up here are the results of that session played

I posted about the same issue but have yet had the time to contact my ISP. I really think they will get the same results with me as you did. I can play any other game fine and even watch High Quality streams of movies or Twitch without connection issues. And its crazy how everyone is getting around the same tracert results.

Is your ISP Cableone?

Yes it is and i got about the same tracert as you.

thanks im going to call them now if you can do the same. the more calling them about it would maybe expedite the fix…

UPDATE
I contacted my ISP they said it was “outside of their network” and was unsure if he could do anything. He couldnt find any contact information about the level3 server that was causing the issue. He did mention there seems to be a lot of complaints about that certain node. and wanted me to submit my tracert to them via email so he could move it up to the next support. If you can contact them and let them know you have the same problem, maybe they will go quicker with getting it resolved. Thanks for contacting me back so i know it just wasnt me.

What is really odd is after it leaves Dallas Level 3 it heads to IPs in Amsterdam and Sweden…?

Simply put, don’t trust any look up of where an IP address is. They just aren’t reliable. It can be the billing address or the regional hq for a company, which may have nothing to do with where the hardware is located.

I trust that if Level3 sets the reverse DNS of an IP to reflect Amsterdam it really is in Amsterdam.

And yes I know all about registration with ARIN, they are usually pretty strick. Without outing myself I’m in network engineering for an ISP that is getting complaints which is what has me lookout at this.

Same ISP and node has been giving me trouble for about a week now

Same here guys, aside from being a Grande Comm customer.

So you know - you can just use a VPN as a workaround for the moment. There are a bunch of them that run $50-ish for a year, I’m currently using PIA but just through inertia, there may well be a better one out there. Ping is slightly higher than my usual, but at least I can actually participate in my guild events… last sunday I tried raiding at a 900ms world that spiked to 3000ms on pulls, it did not go well

Mine has been ongoing since around thanksgiving day. I thought maybe it was just because of the holiday and a lot more people on but it has continued since off and on. I tank for my guild, and having this high latency is hurting us on Fetid progression when I cant even deathstrike for the 3rd strike he does.

@beefpotato
Do all games allow VPNs I thought it was restricted or something?

I don’t know what kind of VPN you’re using but I couldn’t imagine playing a response time sensitive game over one.

I think its mostly a steady latency than what you would be getting so right now in wow. When i am fighting mobs everything runs in place for about 5seconds then catching up really fast.

take the space out of the link this gif shows what im dealing with watch the raid all cast at the same time when it catches up. This is when I set my UI to default per the customer support request to see if it fixed my latency.

I hear you.

But, the iplocation services also show 24.105.62.129 in Irvine, CA, when blizzard says that is the ip for the us- central region. So, maybe it isn’t all that simple.

blue posts have actually recommended this in the past, if they give me any flak about suddenly appearing to be in Las Vegas I’ll find the posts : p Works fine for me at the moment at any rate, and its currently the only way I can get anything done in game

Same issues here, up to a 12 second delay on abilities before entirely lagging out. All other games/websites work fine. The game is unplayable and has been for 4-5 days. Only difference is that I’m also having a lot of issues loading wow forums. I can’t even create my own post. The in-game customer service menu is also not working.

No idea what kind of VPNs your used to, but latency ranging from 60ms to 90ms depending on the exit server I select is completely playable, the 900ms that spikes to 2800ms on pulls isn’t

I 100% agree. You can play just fine at a higher MS just not the massive 3k spikes and people running in place.

I am currently trying Windscribe VPN they offer free 15GB a month which if you only use it for WOW (dont download the update while its active) it should last a while as long as you’re not playing videos or watching streams while its on. I did not have any latency spikes or people running in place while the VPN was on. I just don’t want my account flagged if Im jumping all over the country trying another location. I do have a authenticator so I think they can see its still me and I’m using a VPN.

I might end up just finding another VPN and buy it monthly because i dont feel i would need it much longer than that.

Can echo that using a VPN improves experience. Hadn’t tried until today and for now it’s a decent workaround. It’s making for a less ideal overall internetting experience for me, but I’m more or less not lagging in game. Have had a couple more minor hiccups, but it’s a significant improvement and can now do things like raid/BG which were are basically off limits as a result of that dallas level 3 thing.

Hoping to see something proactive out of blizz regarding this if at all possible, because it doesn’t seem like any of us are having any real success getting ISPs to act.
