Dracthyr And Blizzard’s “New Philosophy”

Sigh, no this isn’t what I was saying. I was trying to imply that it seems insane to me that the Dev’s couldn’t foresee a large push back from the community for lack of melee/tank options for Dragons… I mean, is it really that hard to conceive. Especially considering we had the same conversation around a range option for DH.

And I said this is a thoughtless argument. Obviously there are always things we would like to see in the game that we don’t get. But this response neither adds to the conversation, nor expresses a strong defense of why the Dev’s shouldn’t consider adding very popular ideas from the community to the game.

It just seems disingenuous for the Dev’s to keep saying they’re listening to the community when it feels like there’s a lot they’re overlooking.

The literal definition of a question is a request for information. In this case the Interviewer is posing the question that is brought to them from their audiences. Asking why no tank/melee spec, is a request for a reason why the request for the option is not being offered.

Now this is a good argument. It makes a point, and reveals good reasons why Evoker should be ranged (though it doesn’t explain why Dracthyr are limited to Evoker and can’t be any of thos 9 classes with melee specs. Again, the argument from the Dev’s is that’s because it’s what Dracthyr are, but you would think they could use those talons and scales for something.)

However, your argument is that I’m just complaining because I didn’t get what I wanted, which is actually not my criticism of Blizzard. My criticism is that the message they are communicating verbally through interviews and announcement seems to be different than what’s happening in the game.

Not entirely, but definitely when it comes to some very specific options, that unlike the Dracthyr discussion, which is new, have been ongoing in the community for years.

I’ll also point out that prior to legion while there had been no new ranged dps, they had more spec options than melee. And if hunters hadn’t lost Survival to melee it would be exactly equal now.

Because they invested their resources into useless stuff. They should have focused all their resources on content and new race. Not flying 2.0 and other stuff

I agree with you mostly, though flying 2.0 is actually something i’m looking forward to. I’m hoping that some of the physics are influenced by the new Spellbreak group, cuz movement in that game was awesome.

That said, I feel like the message we keep getting from Blizzard is that if you want new shiny things to play with, we have to add massive limits to other area’s of the game.

If they would keep that system and continue working on it, I would love it. But it will only be one expansion feature.

First: More tanks is not going to add as many tank players as you think it will. The last 3 classes had tank specs. Tell me, what did that do to the “tank shortage” ??? Is there not still an issue of waiting for a long time for a tank player?

The last 3 classes were all melee, and survival turned into melee. Those players can keep crying.

This would be nice, but I don’t think Blizz is as forward thinking as you are. I think they just didn’t want to come up with another tank spec and all the balancing headache involved.

Because tanking as a role is not compatible with the evoker class fantasy,

i haven’t really seen anybody asking for dracthyr tanks tbh

i can think of all the tanking balancing issues that would come with it.

TBH listening to player feedback doesn’t= listening to every single player crying that they cant tank or melee on Dracthyr. lol

Well, here are a handful of the threads and comments that came up when I searched “dracthyr tanking”:

Tis be true. I still yearn for a day where i use my mighty dragon claws and roars and fire breath to hold the line for my comrades.

Yeah, I can understand this. This is really one of those cases where they were thinking about gameplay first and foremost but didn’t really consider how it’d play out in concept. I think the ideas of the evoker class are really cool, but a lot of people want to play Dragons in a way that is akin to what they’re often associated with (i.e. clawing people to death, being a bulky behemoth who just eats blows, etc.). I think it’s too late now for these to be things with the Dracthyr in DF, but I do hope they expound upon them in the future.

Addendum: Also, I really just want to maul people with my claws as Worgen. I know it’s mildly out of character because part of the point of their story (I think?) is trying to overcome their curse and live as they did as humans, but I really want to engage in the classic werewolf fantasy.

Nah, that came later when they were stringing us along about flying. Pre-launch it was vomiting “savage!!!11!one” in every other sentence in a vain attempt to suppress search results for FF14’s raids.

I want the bow from Savannah’s In looking for raid but didn’t get it so no we don’t get what we want in game. It there game we play like they make it

This question has been asked in every developer interview surround Dracthyr and Evoker. Pretty sure it was like the first question asked.

This is probably true.

True, but the issue then is with the new feature of the expansion “the new race” being unavailable to a certain demographic. Allowing Dracthyr to play other classes (like they did with the pandas) seems like an obvious middle ground. This conversation wouldn’t be necessary.

Maybe in the future, great, but it does seem like a dangerous choice in an expansion meant to help recapture player faith in a franchise that has seen quite a bit of negative imaging lately.

Um, if you are a hunter and run that raid long enough… I mean there is a difference right?

But please lay out another ridiculous take that doesn’t even address my criticism.

In case you missed it, I’m pointing out the hypocrisy about saying you want to deliver what players want the way players want, while doubling down on why the fantasy that they obviously want is wrong.

Your wrong and it there game and we play what they make we can ask for thing but sides not mean we get it

We’ve had this before. For the people who only play 1 faction, half the races in the game are unavailable for them. I do also want to point out that this is the 1st new class that’s available to a different demographic, which is ranged players.

Honestly, I wanted Dragon-race that could be any class.

I was hoping for Drakonid, with humanoid forms that have Dragon-like-features, such as Alexstrasza, Ysera or Azuregos’s humanoid forms … (Toggled like Worgen + humanoid form when displayed on mount to remove clipping issues).
