Catchup Mechanics - Gamma and how to save WOTLK

Currently, WOTLK populations have been cannibalized by SoD. Which is understandable, Blizzard is dragging out the buff deployment and the phases are egregiously long.

SoD is the new hip thing and being enjoyed by PVP types everywhere or general WoW fan bois looking for something new.

Back to the state of WOTLK servers…

First up Gammas…
Even healer queue is pushing 8-10minutes at peak play time for FoS specific, which up until SoD was instant for tanks and healers. Really, for me the only point of running this is to snag a few extra frost badges for heirloom gear.

Today I thought lets just do a random, get a gold bonus maybe help out people trying to gear…well…it was a no go at the end. Trying to explain the gamma mechanics to someone new at this point int he expansion is just flat out frustrating. A couple wipes and it was time to leave group despite being patient and wanting to help returning players…

Flat out…the catchup mechanics with Gamma is broken. The dungeons are overly tuned for returning players and they either get kicked or everyone who is decent just doesn’t even need frost badges anymore… So entire groups are under geared and its obnoxious.

Secondarily, the weekly raid isn’t even being run hardly at all. VOA has ground to a halt because, again, people have their tier by now. It’s not an alt friendly game at this point in it’s life cycle so people have moved back to retail and/or SOD instead of alts.

Thirdly, trying to level my alt was faced with a 35 minute dps queue for TBC era content. This is a huge increase. For a while these queues were in the 10 minute range for dps. Can’t really fix this because there is a vacuum where the player base once was.

PROPOSED CHANGE

Add scourgestones to regular Heroics.
Double the triumph drops from regular heroics.
Add rare items like mounts and such to bags that ALL players doing random dungeons can get.
Increase frost badge reward from 2 dailies from 5 to 10, effectively double both. This might incentivize this activity a little bit.

Forget this gamma (ghetto mythic dungeon) content. It worked if you returned right before ICC launch and were a fresh 80. It doesn’t work now.

Alternatively, just nerf the gammas into the dirt so they are effectively baseline heroic difficulty.

Anyways, yall @ blizzard better do something instead of sitting on hands until Cata (projected August 2024 is ridiculous)

Alpha, Beta, and Gamma dungeons should have never been introduced to the game.

Item level changes in Uludar should have never occurred.

Raid lockout adjustments to ToGC and ICC never should have happened.

Catch up gear with new made up tokens that never existed was a mistake.

With the correct and proper introduction of RDF with the ICC patch; the LFG finder tool never should have been removed as an option.

Class adjustments, new made up glyphs, and talent rebalancing never should have even been entertained, let alone implemented. Hunter, Druid, and Paladin for example.

More changes and adjustments are not the solution. Reverting to the true original, OG WotLK, is the only way to make WotLK Classic, truly a Classic for the real Classic Playerbase. OG WotLK is what the true Classic players wants OG WotLK is what the Classic Playerbase rightfully should have for WotLK Era.

Heroic+ was idiotic from the start. They should have just had RDF and the later Emblem system. It was fantastic for alts. And wouldn’t be full of toxic gatekeeping due to its rather easy difficulty.

yeah I wish they didn’t mess around with specs & glyphs…all I wanted to was to play the fun Feral cat rotation & they buggered it up ! They changed way too much, reverted changes, except they had no idea what they were doing & it was janky as hell

Agreed but here we are, would like to see something done to encourage player replacement if they aren’t going to speed up the cata release and P5.

They just need to add proper incentives for the tank bag.

But DPS whined incessantly when blizzard did that and got it nerfed.

That doesn’t fix population issues and that only undergeared people are running it. They need to do things to get people who are properly geared to run it

If you meet the ilvl requirements legitimately you are properly gear to run it.

I can’t speak for everywhere but on Whitemane dailies take on average a minute for a healer to que in the morning during the week ( my DPS ranges from around 3-5 minutes) which is awesome imo. We are also still regularly running weeklies and VoA.

Now granted Whitemane is a large server with lots of options but at this stage I would have to think if you are still on a low population realm it is because you enjoy that vibe (which is fine).

Not me over here vibin my way through gamma dungeons and wishing they had more difficulty levels with greater rewards while reading posts from boomers that can’t understand why people should be allowed to do content that they like.

Not only that but ICC is a problem IMO.

It’s not really something that can be changed, but I just stopped raiding after getting my 4th LK kill. Why? It just takes too long.

After raiding retail for years and then getting spoiled by TOGC…spending 8 hours on a raid a week is just obnoxious. I don’t have any time for alts or anything else. I can even begin to imagine how “no lifer” some of my guildies are that have 2-3 alts they raid with.

Im not sure they need more difficulties imo, and tbh Gamma feels like the easiest version so far with the buffs they bring with them, but you can already get 245+ gear from dungeons and stones and can basically get anything up through HM Uld and NM ToC gear without ever raiding, theres definitely not a shortage of catch up material in game i agree. That said it does kind of feel bad doing leveling dungeons at almost any point, getting a full half decent group feels like the exception rather than the norm, usually you get 2-4(if solo queue) unguilded, misfit spec players that only utilize half of their kit, cant/wont actually communicate and dont seem to even have a moderate grasp on mechanics or the direction they should be going, if they said they were new and it was their first time then cool thats fine we will make it happen, but again the vast majority cant or wont speak or they just dont speak english which is more and more common on NA servers and they dont even push half of their buttons. Then at max level, trying to do those catch up dungeons, ooof, low gear is fine, you can easily do gammas in a full group of 200-213 ilvl players, sure it will take a little longer and theres less room for ignoring mechanics or having dial-up brain reactions to them, but they aren’t some mountain to climb. Yet every time you’ve got multiple people with low-mid tier gear that are borderline on dps with the healer, not even remotely pretending to do the mechanics, again they don’t communicate or acknowledge what needs to happen or just spam on repeat in non-english which is fine but understanding one another isnt going to happen and they seem utterly clueless as well about their class and the dungeon, and now as of the last few weeks if you aren’t tank queuing yourself you’re probably waiting 10-15 if you’ve got a healer and potentially longer as solely dps queuing because even early evening is severly underpopulated and during the day or especially at night, its like spotting a unicorn to get a tank when you’re queued. I think the real issue right now is more a severly lacking real player population and a massive abundance of bots and account sellers just expecting to be carried along so they don’t even have to work for the money they’re trying to make. I can see how it gets kind of discouraging to make alts or to start playing now when most of your dungeons feel like you let your 6 year old cousin play on the PC next to you just for fun and you’re trying to push through with them, except its almost the whole group.

That kinda sounds like a group trying to prog with 5-10 people that just really dont belong. Normal ICC takes like 2.5 to 3 hours with a halfway decent group, yeah prog on some heroic bosses can take time but you have limited attempts anyway and unless its like LK prog, it shouldn’t be that long

It’s a 25M group. 7 heroic bosses so far

We’re normally only prog on like 1-2 bosses a week. Rarely more than 5 wipes on the prog boss, rest are 1 shots.

You can claim whatever you like, but unless you’re in a pro speed run group, ICC is countless hours of trash and needlessly long boss fights.

It’s just my personal preference, but I enjoyed being able to run 3-4 alts through the latest raid in 1 night to what we have right now. It also allowed me to get more practice on each boss every week.

The way it is now; it’s more like a second job than a game. So I gave it up starting this lockout.

Retail has what you like. There was a playerbase who wanted an authentic experience. Instead they got Retail garbage shoved down their throat and endless gatekeeping toxicity from Zoomers.
