Blizzard hates Classic RPers

We have 1 RP server in the form of Grobbulus and it’s a hollow shell of its former self as a progressive server moving into retail aligned expansions. They’re basically at the Planes of Power phase that we see in EQ TLPs where the servers shrink and people quit.

Not including an RP or RP PvP server for fresh is a direct slap in the face of the RP community.

It’s been a month now so we know their is no secret plan to add one. I can only speak for myself, but I’m sure there are others, who are completely skipping the Anniversary realms cus we’ve been there and done that already 2-3x between live, 2019, SoM, and private servers.

Next fresh add RP servers you fools.

Wiz main ofc

the worst thing is that they have maliciously cut off transfers of 60s from whitemane/mankrik to grobbulus :expressionless: i can imagine grob getting a resurgence of players if only this option was reinstated. come on, blizzard.

I’m super happy fresh exists for those who want it and for another batch of brand new WoW gamers to experience it like in 2019, but damn I’m bummed no RP server.

I’m a PoE2/retail main now cus I don’t wanna do it again if we can’t get long term lore established like Grobb had.

Them dwarves tried their best to keep Grobb Classic alive, but no server cluster is a killer. I was there when TBC launched and Grobb went down to like 100 players online horde side mostly Boogeymen guild.

I’ve noticed a bunch of TRP players on Dreamscythe. None that I’ve seen on Maladath yet, but I remain hopeful.

It really is. I made a post to at least let us distinguish ourselves in our own layer, or give us an option to always mbe grouped together on our own server rp layer Preference - WoW Classic / WoW Classic General Discussion - World of Warcraft Forums

I doubt Blizzard really thinks about RPers at all.

It may not be what everyone thinks of as a not-dead-server, but we’ve been here on Grobbulus Classic Era as Legacy since 2021. The guild started as about 3 people, and over the years we’ve grown it to 16 people clearing our first MC in 2021, 25 people clearing our first BWL in 2022, 30 clearing AQ40 in 2023, and our first Naxx clear and KT kill in March of this year. Since then we’ve almost formed 5 Ateishes even!

Sure long gone are the OG Grobb days (I’m a Day 1 Grobb mobber, as are others of our guildies), but it’s truly been the best wow experience, community, and journey I’ve ever been a part of since I started playing this game in 2004.

I’d also argue that because Grobb is not clustered is precisely why we’ve been successful here, and why we’ve attracted the players we have. We aren’t looking to be in a clustered server with the rest of the players. We just want our small town post apocalyptic farm server  if we were clustered, it wouldn’t have the same vibe here. We’d be another run of the mill guild in Whitemane. Which we also have free character moves to, but do not take because we enjoy it here.

Anyways, anyone reading who’s interested, come join the fun on Grobbulus Classic Era! We’ve been here since TBC prepatch, and we’ve grown despite TBC, Wrath, SoM, SoD. And we’ll still be here when Anniversary ends and those who wish to keep playing Vanilla are seeking a permanent home.

Grobbulus Forever. Legacy Forever.

Yours in Battle,

Jarl

You’re wrong. Blizzard hates all of its players equally.

Much love to all the RPers. It makes me very sad Blizz excluded our variants in Anniversary. Hard to not feel like they’re killing it off for good.

There’s Grobbulus, Deviate Delight, and Crusader Strike that are all RP realms. Not that I have anything against RP realms, but I’m curious what makes them any different from normal realms. What is the point of even having realms designated as RP, when this is an RP game on every realm?

Genuine question (what is special or different about realms with the name RP in them?).

:woman_shrugging:

Deviate died and CS is a PvP server.

The main difference Is I won’t play non RP.

Even on retail all my mains are on Moonguard/WrA

OK. I mean, I can definitely understand how that is impactful for you, but that doesn’t exactly enlighten me to any new personal perspectives on how RP Realms actually differ from other realms.

If someone were to ask me, and I responded, “The mage Redrum will not play on a realm that has not been designated for RP,” as being the differentiating factor, I don’t think anyone would take that seriously. What’s important about that, from my perspective at least is that I have no way to convince myself with this information that there is any difference.

:woman_shrugging:

On a traditional server, lore is dictated by the developers. It’s a static set of facts and events. On an RP server, lore is fluid and ever-evolving. Player actions, from grand battles to intimate conversations, have the potential to reshape the world. A successful assassination attempt could spark a political revolution, a whispered rumor could ignite a war. This player-generated content, this organic storytelling, creates a depth and richness that no pre-scripted narrative can truly match.

Normal realms are basically rinse and repeat and go again.

Edit 1: RP PvP servers have this long form open world storytelling that forms great friendships and rivalries. People become server lorebeards after playing long enough and being involved with different aspects of the RP community.

OK. That’s an interesting idea. I suppose having played on an RP PVP server (Crusader Strike) during SoD Phase 1, 2, 3, I am still left wondering what precisely any of this means, and why it is exclusive to servers that simply have RP in their name.

Would changing one of, or all of the current anniversary realms to include RP in their server type designations actually have the impact you’re asking for?

This is a two part question, because on the one hand I’m curious as to what your opinion is on the matter, and on the other hand I’m curious as to anything that might enlighten me to change my own opinion or perspective.

I have not been a long-term RP player, so keep that in mind, and I don’t have the frame of reference of spending any significant time trying to pursue RP in WoW, so if you have some ideas in mind when you mention RP that you assume everyone else also holds, please note that to me, RP simply seems like a rather meaningless appendage to realms that signals to whoever wants to RP that that’s a realm to gather on, but the same could very easily be done in Discord, on the forums, or anywhere else.

:woman_shrugging:

CS phase 1 had one of the most jam packed RP event calenders I’ve ever seen. Literally every day there was some kind of meet up, pirate event, WPVP thing, tavern crawl, etc etc. There was even people RPing as Twilight Cultists who held a funeral for Kelris at the end.

I remember those things more than I remember BfD.

Historically, RP servers have had a more mature playerbase. That’s the most obvious difference I think when playing on them.

Once upon a time Blizzard used to enforce their own rules, and prohibited non-RP names on these servers. So you didn’t have Smokeweedeveryday, Urmom, and Warlockobama running around yelling in LFG. They stopped enforcing this (and basically anything it seems like including botting) when the 2019 reboot happened, unfortunately.

You had designated spaces where players came together to RP on a realm-wide level. This didn’t mean you had to RP yourself. But you had to respect it at least. You had to honor that you’re the outsider if you’re not RPing.

Where as people RPing on a PvP realm… they face ridicule for their existence, they contend with random names that “ruin immersion”, and in general have to deal with a more immature playerbase.

Sure there’s RP folks there, but you’re mixed in with the lot of players. Where as RP realms sort of gave us a corner to go to and consolidate our like minded players in.

Now… 2019… I’d say we still had the RP feel for most of 2019-2021 on the RP realms I played on. Blizzard stopped enforcing things but whatever, it was as fun as ever on Grobb and I watched a lot of RP curious people “get it” by playing there. It was mostly respectful of the RPers. OG Deviate Delight (not the 2024 reroll) had the same feel too.

Sometime towards the end of 2021 Classic into TBC, I feel RP realms started to enter a deathspin of sorts. The popularity of Grobbulus and the community we had there attracted a lot of players… but it was players like streamers and their legions who didn’t respect it who flocked to be tourists there.

We saw in SoD with the at the time unnamed RP PvP realm, Crusader Strike, be designated by the strangers as their server to roll on. These streamers and their legions had no intention to respect the RP culture. It’s why blizzard actually removed the RP designation on it. I’d argue even if the streamers came intended to respect it… streamers and their followers are sort of antithetical to the ethos and immersion that RP realms stood for.

So here we are today. No RP realms. RP is now this shiny server type that beckons people back to the Grobbulus lore and people want a chance at that again. If blizzard added an RP realm to Anniversary… I would bet money it would end in the same fate as Crusader Strike. It wouldn’t feel like an RP realm, and players would flock to it without any intention of respecting the ruleset or culture or vibe that an RP server provided in the past. I think this is why they killed Crusader Strike and didn’t give us an RP type here.

It’s sad, and I’m sure I sound like I just don’t want people on an RP server. But the opposite is true. Everyone starts somewhere with their RP journey. When I rolled in 2004 I had no idea what RP was. I just went to a realm because a friend did. But then I started to watch and eventually join into it and develop my character and create the “world” and immersion with everyone. It was joyful!

So I hope we can see an RP realm again one day, but I suspect it will be a while. The “hype” around RP (which is antithetical to RP imo) needs to die off. Then we’ll see one. And then I hope lots of players join it with pure intentions, who respect the RP community, follow reasonable naming rules, and overall help create the vibrant and mature communities that RP realms have fostered.

That’s wonderful. Of course, it doesn’t explain what that has to do with the letters “RP” being in the realm description.

Of note, there are technical details/rules for how Normal, PVP, and HC servers actually function that separates them. I am unaware of such things for “RP” yet the genre of the game is MMORPG, so…

Why not just RP on any realm?

:woman_shrugging:

I’ve tried every server type except RPPvE (because I enjoy WPvP). Started PvE as a new player, graduated to PvP and got hooked, and eventually, one day, gave RPPVP a shot, and then I never went back.

Being stuck on Nightslayer PvP has only refreshed me on why I love RPPVP server so much.

  1. PvP servers have way more trolling, ragebait, toxic gameplay. Now, we know human nature, that stuff is all over, but on RPPvP, I’ve found not only for it be to less, but way less accepted behavior in the environment. Where others cheer the trolls on on Nightslayer, RPPvP servers fight back, making that behavior less likely to happen.
  2. Immersion. The world is so much more alive, the same towns you walk through with the same scripted NPC chatter is now something new, because Roleplayers are RPing in /say out in the open, adding enrichment and lore to the town. This also creates a welcoming environment for other RPers to join in if the conversation feels openly inviting. On Nightslayer PvP, I’ve seen multiple people harassed and griefed just trying to ‘RP in public’ like many against such servers told us to do.
  3. Roleplaying Server Rules. Yup! It’s not a lot, but the main rule is you should have a name and guild name that fits roleplay/world of warcraft. No Goosefart or Buttblaster. This lends to more immersion in our Roleplaying World and community.
  4. World PvP and RPPVP Guilds. World PvP is AMAZING on RPPVP servers. Emerald Dream and Grobbulus were top notch when it came to huge battles, and a lot of them were led by Roleplaying Guilds, rallying up their allies, or even coordinating with the opposing faction for one amazing battle. This also made the world feel alive, as not only were epic battles happening, you could also witness the opening speech and battlecry, everyone charging in a coordinated attack, all yelling their own cries to add to the clash. Many RP guilds would have a home base, and defend it from the oppossing faction. At their home area you could find them engaging in open RP.
  5. I never laughed more than on an RP server. While some may think its all serious Roleplay, there are many who contribute goofy characters that really make your day and give you a hearty laugh!
  6. Community. While, yes, you can find your chosen guilds, in a way the whole world feels like a guild, as people will go out of their way to talk, interact, and help you.
  7. The RP tag keeps us together. Right now we are scattered and dwindling. Many have not rolled here because there is no Roleplay server. Many had to choose between PvE/PvP/HC. Our community is fractured. Its a playset and playstyle that shows us where our home is.

I am sure I missed some points, but thats a chunk of them. Hope it helps.
