Grobbulus Era Seeks Heroes New & Old!

The fire crackled in the hearth as the tavern bustled with the sounds of mugs clinking and boots stomping. In the corner, where the flickering light barely reached, a small group of adventurers huddled. Among them was Jarl, a new staff on his back with a raven carved into the top, and his grey beard flecked with frost from another journey into the icy heart of Naxxramas.

“I’ll tell you,” he began, lowering his voice as he leaned in, “Legacy started with just a few brave souls. We didn’t march into Azeroth looking for glory. No, we wanted to experience this world for what it is—to battle the beasts and demons of legend, to feel the grit of combat, and to build something more than just a guild. We built a home.”

The faces around him nodded. They knew the stories—of just three heroes defeating General Drakkisath, just over two dozen defeating the Black Dragonflight. They’d heard the legends of their early days, of the trials faced in Molten Core with sixteen adventures defeating the firelord. But these were not just tales from a book or dusty scroll. They were the foundation of Legacy itself.

“We’ve been at this for three and a half years now,” Jarl continued, his voice steady. “And now, we stand against the might of Kel’Thuzad, the very lich who commands Naxxramas. We bring him down week after week, but Naxxramas still holds its challenges. We’ve pushed through the wings and tasted victory, though we’ve set our sights on an even greater goal: clearing that cursed place in one night.”

Jarl paused for a moment, letting the weight of those words settle. “It’s within reach, my friends. Four wings down in a single night is just around the corner.”

Around the table, mugs were raised in salute. But Jarl wasn’t finished.

“We don’t raid for loot alone,” he said. “We don’t sell our victories to the highest bidder, and we don’t chase the trends that others follow. We’re here because we love Azeroth. We’re vanilla to the core, and our battles are fought for the joy of the fight itself.”

The tavern had quieted now, all eyes on the dwarf as he continued.

“Every Monday and Friday, we gather—7 to 10 in the evening, Pacific Time, when the skies darken and the world becomes our battlefield. We’ve walked through the flames of Molten Core, toppled the great Nefarian, and we still push into AQ40 when the call comes. But now, Naxxramas is where we prove ourselves.”

“But,” he added, “there’s always room for more in Legacy. Our ranks are filling fast, but we could still use a few more battle-hardened warriors, rogues, mages, healers, and all other adventurers. Some nights we’re forty strong, other nights we need more. Whether you’re new to this land or you’ve been wandering it since time began, there’s a place for you here.”

He stood, raising his tankard high. “So, for those of you who fight for the love of the fight—who seek out battle not for gold, but for honor—Legacy calls to you. Join us, and together we’ll make sure Azeroth remembers our name.”

The tavern erupted into cheers, tankards slamming on wooden tables, as the call to arms rang out.

Legacy is a great group of folks, some of the best times I had in Era.

Was interested and rolled there but often times I was the only one in a given area. Are you guys just logging on to raid? Stormwind was dead as well, but maybe I’m wrong?

There’s about 100 active players total on the server, split across two guilds (one per faction) so it’s going to be common to be the only one in a zone. If that’s what you’re looking for, we definitely aren’t the place and basically any other realm will provide that for you.

We have players on all the time though, not just raid logging. But raid times certainly are the most popular time to be online. That said, people are playing and leveling alts and such during non-raid times.

But yeah, can’t stress enough… this is a micro server with about 100 active players. We love that. We’ve been doing it like this for 3.5 years, slowly building up a full raid roster, but with no plans to grow it beyond that size.

Not for everyone, to be sure, but those looking for a smaller, slower, more community focused playstyle have found joy here and stick around. Just need to reframe expectations and be okay with a low population.

Yet we still clear raids, have KT down, run dungeons periodically, level alts up, farm resources, have periodic world PvP/Wargames against the other factions guild, you name it we do it. We just formed our 8th legendary last night even… so while I understand players may call it a dead realm, I find it to be the most enjoyable experience in wow I’ve ever had. It’s got a very great group of like minded and helpful and kind players who love to raid and play together, and are interested in keeping that for the long term (hence our 3.5yr tenure on a “dead server”) . We’re always looking for new friends to join us, if it’s an interesting concept to them! But 10000% recognize it isn’t for everyone… and for that you have Whitemane/Mankirk/etc

Well Jarl, your post once again enticed me to return to Grobb for some adventures! Thank you.

I love this concept! And I love the IC posts.

I rolled on Grob awhile back to be a part of this, but ended up moving on because the AH was empty and I didn’t know how to navigate leveling and earning gold without having an AH to use.

This isn’t a huge issue leveling once I start getting greens, but I don’t know about being a helpful raid member if I don’t have time to farm consumables and other stuff.

Do you guys have a lot of people who roll new and make it? I’d love to try again but I’m concerned about finding basic necessities!

Thanks for any input!

Glad you’re enjoying the stories  I enjoy making them too. Acts as a bit of a natural filter as to who “gets” the message and not I suspect.

I’ll answer your questions primarily from the alliance perspective but the horde side will be just the same as far as I know (I only play on ally, but the horde has a similar setup as us, and they are our eternal rivals)

So, the AH will essentially always be empty. We used to run AH days but stopped because the bots/farmers would actually buy our cheap resources up to xfer to Whitemane to sell for significantly more gold.

Now days, all trading and bartering happens directly in guild chat or in the guild discord (I’d say primarily in the discord). People ask for what they need and others will provide. And vice versa, folks offer up what they have and others will take them up on a trade. Usually we just give stuff away… gold is worthless. It’s all sort of a “for the greater good” mentality. Very tribal hippie commune sort of thing where we’re all in it together and it’s the only way to make it. But it does require a bit of reframing maybe what most wow leveling experiences (or even 60 experiences) are like. Instant gratification and infinite access to things isn’t a concept here. A lot of us will spend time farming and gathering masts on our own. All part of the fun!

I wouldn’t sweat it. Honestly, I don’t have time to farm my own mats as much as I wish I could. I’m fortunate that folks will usually slide me some consumes but more often than not I’m heading into raids without them. There’s basically no expectation for people to have consumes. Neither guild hits a full 40 members in raid on a regular basis. Alliance has started to see it more frequently but still probably under 10-15 times in our 3.5 years here. Because of that, we don’t have the “luxury” of demanding players to come prepared or farm goods or whatever. We just need bodies… ideally ones who can listen and follow directions and are friendly  being helpful and contributing it honestly secondary to that.

I’d say even if we had a full 40 though, this culture wouldn’t change. It’s become part of the server identity. People like it here because it’s fairly causal. It’s one of the last beacons of a fun casual ethos, surrounded by the general era population who have min/maxed the fun out of the game (imo).

So I wouldn’t worry about this at all. The best thing we can ask of players is just to show up, be respectful, and have fun. If you want to contribute, even better. Our guild bank is pretty stocked on a lot of goods too. People give out epic mounts to new 60s since we don’t have anything to spend gold on. Etc etc. we’re all in it together.

Definitely! I would say again it’s mostly a solo leveling experience though so not for everyone. Due to lack of AH some niche items may be hard to procure from the guild, and you may have to skip some quests, or put in a bit more effort to complete it than if you just had access to an AH. On the ally side we actually have a bunch of us rolling alts together right now in the mid 20s. Another option we see if folks will level up on Whitemane or Mankirk or even on HC and then transfer over to Grobb once they’re 60 or whatever.

Hope this helps!! Feel free to reach out any time with questions.

Is there a particular class needed on alliance side? I may give it a go

Our needs are always in flux! So we always say, play whatever class you want that will keep you playing and having fun  that said… right now, we have more of a need for DPS classes again, but can always use more healers and anything else!

Not sure if you’ve wandered over or not yet, but we are currently experiencing an influx of healers. History shows that this likely won’t last, but if you were keen on a DPS class, now’s a good time.

As Jarl said though, ultimately whatever you want to play is the right answer
