Allied races for the Alliance and the Horde

1 - More allied races

I really like when we have new playable races. I’m a very big fan of that. Many races come in my mind and I don’t understand what we don’t still have some of them as playable races. Some of these races are allies of the Alliance or the Horde and they have a true allegiance with the Alliance or the Horde.

Customizations for Shadowlands are disappointing. Wildhammer dwarves are just a lazy customization for Ironforge dwarves. Wildhammer dwarves could be druid with the paladin and warlock classes removed for them. Meanwhile Horde got Farraki and dark trolls customizations but these trolls aren’t a part of the Horde unlike to Forest trolls. Horde should have got Forest trolls skins as customization with Farraki and dark trolls. Same thing for Dark Rangers.

I prefer each race get its own voice (female/male), its own racial traits, its own voice emotes for jokes and flirt, its own class restrictions and its own starting area.

So I really hope we could have more playable races for the Alliance and for the Horde in the future.

2 - Dark Ranger part

Dark Ranger could be a new class. But I’m pretty sure we won’t get it. So it’s better to get them as customizations for Blood Elves to give them a second visual theme.

3 - "Wasted slot for another race" problem

With the current race selection of character creation screen, that's really difficult to add many new other races for the future. You can only add 4 more new races slots for each faction if you keep the two current columns. Adding a third column won't be very "clean" for the character creation screen. (Don't get me wrong, the current character creation screen is great but it needs to be "polished")

Based on this concept, the original idea, here is my idea for a new race selection for the character creation screen (a slot race can contain several races, example: Troll => Jungle Troll + Zandalari Troll + Forest Troll):

  • Human:
    • Human + Worgen + Kul Tiran

  • Dwarf:
    • Bronzebeard Dwarf + Wildhammer Dwarf + Dark Iron Dwarf + Frostborn

  • Gnome:
    • Gnome + Mechagnome

  • Kaldorei:
    • Night Elf

  • Draenei:
    • Draenei + Lightforged Draenei + Man’ari Eredar

  • Ren’dorei:
    • Void Elf

  • Jinyu:
    • Jinyu + Ankoan

  • Broken:
    • Broken

  • Furbolg:
    • Furbolg

Horde:

  • Orc:
    • Orc + Mag’har Orc + Dragonmaw Orc

  • Troll:
    • Jungle Troll + Zandalari Troll + Forest Troll

  • Tauren:
    • Tauren + Highmountain Tauren + Taunka

  • Undead:
    • Forsaken

  • Sin’dorei:
    • Blood Elf + San’layn

  • Goblin:
    • Goblin + Gilgoblin

  • Shal’dorei:
    • Nightborne

  • Vulpera:
    • Vulpera

  • Ogre:
    • Mok’Nathal + Ogre

Neutral:

  • Pandaren:
    • Pandaren

Each race of a slot race has its own voice (female/male), its own racial traits, its own voice emotes for jokes and flirt, its own class restrictions and its own starting area.

Slot races:

  • Alliance => 10
  • Horde => 10

Races:

  • Alliance => 19
  • Horde => 19

=> So far so good :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

More details about “Rework race selection from character creation screen”:

  • That could be one of the big features for the 10.0 or another expansion. We could take advantage of the opportunity to add new playable races we want for a long time (the races I put in this list). What a pity we don’t still have some races already allied with the Alliance or the Horde since Warcraft 2 / Vanilla / BC / WotLK / Cata / MoP.

  • No need to have scenarios or heritage armor sets to have one of these new playable races (I like heritage armor sets but it takes times to make them. Scenarios aren’t really good after what we got for current allied races). A vocal introduction with a racial mount and a starting area like the allied races should be more than enough.

  • With this system, we could add many more races for the next 20 years. Even if we (finally) get all the new races I put in the list in this system as playable races, add new races won’t be a problem for the 20 years. Sure it takes time to make this system but Blizzard team already have all they need to make that and to make a pretty good work.

This is all well and good but am I the only one that thinks an overabundance of something is going to make it harder to choose?

Ogres should have been a playable race for a long time. So I hope the Ogres will be playable one day in the Horde.

No you’re not the only one and you’re right. But that could be great to have some of these races as playable races.

Some of them are asked for a long time (Ogres, Taunka, Broken, Wildhammers, etc).

Some of them are even a part of the Horde or a part of the Alliance for a long time too:

  • Taunka (WotLK)
  • Mok’Nathal (BC)
  • Ogre (Warcraft 2 + World of Warcraft)
  • Dragonmaw Orc (Cataclysm)
  • Forest Troll (Warcraft 2 + World of Warcraft)
  • Broken (BC)
  • Jinyu (MoP)
  • Wildhammer Dwarf (Warcraft 2 + Warcraft 3 + Cataclysm)

Even for me, it’s hard to choose what races could be a playable race.

I know what race I really want to play (Broken, Man’ari Eredar, Forest Troll, San’layn and Mok’Nathal). But I would like to see the other ones as playable races too (Taunka, Dragonmaw Orc, Ogre, Gilgoblin, Sethrak, Jinyu, Furbolg, Wildhammer Dwarf).

Very nice thread.

I’ll come back later with some more thoughts but I’m away right now. Just wanted to show support!

I just want to say there is a troll clan called shatterspear that is alligned with the horde and even saw action in bfa, they have dark troll colors and farraki colors.

That is all.

It’s a pretty good list. Add a few more to it (Saurok on the Horde and Saberon on either mainly) and it’d be near perfect for me. :meat_on_bone::crocodile: :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

I really dislike allied races. I dislike that you have to jump through hoops to get a race that should be available at content launch. I dislike the entry gate that it adds to new/returning players that want to play an allied race.

More races…Sure.
More allied races…no thanks.

We’ll have to wait to see what’s coming next expansion. :world_map:

We’re left with possibly Mawsworn once the domination magic wears off.

I was expecting to see Vrykuls for the Alliance. Disapointed.

If Ogres enter into Horde , Vrykuls must enter in Alliance, cause they are counterpart. Both are giant races and both are the progenitors of the main race of the facctions: Ogres are the progenitors of the Orcs and Vrykuls of the Humans.

I’d like to see
Night Elven Worgen/Satyr
Naga.
San’layn
Ogres/Vrykul.
Mok’nathal/Broken

Really feel like there should be a dedicated customization team whose function is to add things like races, classes, class skins, character customization, etc.
Anything that let’s you build the character you want how you want it.

I added the Saurok for the Horde in the first part. I like your ideas for them in your thread. :slightly_smiling_face:
