Frequently Asked Questions

So, I was thinking about this thread for a while but never got to make it.

CONTAINS SPOILERS

Question: Why do I not have the achievement for finishing the whole campaign on Normal, Hard or Brutal difficulty?

Answer: You have probably skipped a mission. Often it’s one of the choice missions in WoL or “secret” mission Piercing the Shroud.

The other reason might be the fact that you have temporarily disconnected from the Internet while playing the campaign, so Battlenet didn’t register the full game, thus you have not fulfilled the requirements to get the achievement for finishing the whole mission.

Either way, you can find the missing missions in your achievements menu by clicking on the achievement. Missing missions will be displayed in grayer color.

Q: Any idea if there will be a new mission pack or Starcraft 3?

A: As of January 2020, we only know that an unnamed Starcraft project which was early in the development was canceled in favor of Diablo 4.
So… nothing.

Q: How do I beat this achievement/this mission.

A: Look up some guides on the internet. Among the good ones, I would mention Jayborino, Lowko, LilArrin or Osiris.
If you are unable to beat something with a guide then it’s probably on your macro or micro. More often it’s macro.
Learn to keep cranking workers until you are saturated and build structures effectively. Stay away from being supply blocked.

Q:Is there are a canon choice for WoL dual missions?

A: Yes. They are choosing Hanson on Haven, Tosh on New Folsom and Tychus on Char. Originally it was Warfield but it was eventually changed.

Q: Is there a known canon order for campaign missions?

A: There is no known order for WoL, but VampSpartan has made some extensive research here Wings of Liberty in Chronological Order

HotS order is known and it is Umoja-Char-Zerus-Kaldir-Skygeirr-Space-Korhal
Sources for this are Niadra’s comic, where Niadra remembers Kerrigan as Primal Queen of Blades. The only way she could remember her this way is if Kerrigan went to Zerus before Kaldir while going to Char first to “unlock” Zerus.

Skygeirr and Space order is sourced from old official starcraft site and its “Story so far”.

LotV’s order is unknown and it’s a source for heated debate. (#ShakurasBeforeKoral)

Q: Why is there no Master Archive for WoL?

A: WoL’s incredibly flexible mission order allows some insane things. For example, if you play the missions in the right order you can have Battlecruisers, Spectres/Ghosts, Thors and Banshees in the mission The Evacuation or Battlecruisers, Thors, Vikings, and Banshees in the mission The Devil’s Playground. In both of these cases, you have above 25 research points for both Zerg and Protoss tech.

Therefore with the way Master Archives work in HotS and LotV… this would make some missions incredibly easy. Not to mention that it would completely destroy the point of permanent upgrades.

Q: How do I get Battlecruisers on Evacuation and The Devil’s Playground
A: Order for Battlecruisers on Agria (The Evacuation)

Mar Sara-Smash and Grab-The Devil’s Playground-Welcome to the Jungle-The Great Train Robbery-Cutthroat-The Dig-Prophecy missions-Tosh/Nova mission- Engine of Destruction-free order until The Maw of the Void and then Evacuation.

Order for Battlecruisers in The Devil’s Playground (Redstone III)

Mar Sara-Evacuation/Smash and Grab in free order-Outbreak-Great Train Robbery-Cutthroat-The Dig-Prophecy missions-from then on just get to Maw of the Void, beat it and then play The Devil’s Playground.

Word of caution. In order to access Ghost/Spectres via New Folsom mission, you need to play two missions after Welcome to the Jungle so keep that in mind.

Q: Do I need to win all missions to get “Hurry up, It’s Raid Night!”?
A: No. Just beat the mission All In with the combined mission time below 8 hours.

Q: What is Church of Mengsk

A: A counter-troll organization primarily dedicated to bashing pro-Kerrigan trolls known as Redheads. The most infamous Redhead being poster known as Charmed, who has made his name here by fanatically loving anything Kerrigan related, fanatically hating Protoss, use of circular logic (-en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circular_reasoning and outlandish takes on (not only) real-life issues including sexual assault and World War II.
Among his most famous takes belong the Chinese Holiday Argument, claiming center of a planet is on its surface and that blowing up Shakuras once Protoss evacuated was a war crime.
Other past threats that have been fought include but are not limited to Ravianna (on the old forum) or Sayian (new forum).

Church of Mengsk was established when Marsaro used circular logic against Charmed, but instead of applying it to Kerrigan he applied it to Mengsk.
Long story short, Mengsk is the reason why Kerrigan got infested in both cases (the first time he left her on Tarsonis, second time she wanted to get revenge on him). Therefore her ultimate destruction of Amon was only thanks to Mengsk. Then I joined on the fun and the Church was born.

We also don’t take ourselves too seriously and we love off-topics.

Q: How do we know Kerrigan targetted urban areas?

A: Because of Swarm Host Evolution mission, Carrion strain that takes place on Cruxas III, in the city of New Babylon.

Because there has been resurgence of new posters I am putting this post back up.

I’ve got some questions if you don’t mind, please:

  1. How did Selendis change between WOL and LOTV? Why is she more seemingly more attractive and why was this change necessary?

  2. How come Kerrigan was never punished for her war crimes? Rather, it’s the opposite - she rules over Koprulu sector briefly from the end of Brood War to WOL and then ascends to godhood.

  3. Why does Kerrigan destroy Valerian’s lab when making zerglings with no repercussions at all in HOTS? Why didn’t Valerian use ghost memory wipes on Kerrigan that Nova had during NCO?

  4. After becoming a god, why doesn’t Kerrigan recontact Niadra and cancel her directive to kill all Protoss?

  5. How is a spawning pool on Zerus more effective at transforming Kerrigan to her ultimate primal form than the Overmind via chrysalis?

  6. What was the point of creating broodmothers when they were nearly the same as cerebrates?

  7. If Protoss actively tracked Zerg presences before SC2, why hadn’t they ever found the primal zerg on Zerus?

  8. Why would Mira Han, who is so obsessed with credits, spend so much credits on battlecruisers and wraiths to murder her husband?

  9. After capturing Raynor, why didn’t Mengsk have him immediately killed? Wasn’t he a branded terrorist?

  10. Why does Kerrigan have high heels or stilettos as a zerg?

  11. Why didn’t infested Stukov contact Kerrigan earlier?

  12. Why did Narud experiment on Stukov only for Stukov to escape his control?

  13. Where does Stukov go after LOTV? He has no more purpose except that his family still exists on earth. But because of time dilation, they would’ve already died.

  14. How come Abathur never enters the battle? Wouldn’t he be obsessed with analyzing fresh essence that is killed from the field?

  15. If Narud controls the Tal’darim, why does he make Raynor go on a wild goose hunt to take and defend artifacts?

  16. What happens to Sam Hill, the mercenary booker? How are there still confederate units in some of the unit descriptions after all this time? e.g., Jackson’s Revenge

  17. Despite Mengsk being revealed in Media Blitz in WOL, why aren’t there active rebellions against the Dominion?

  18. Why would Kerrigan personally enter Mengsk’s quarters in Korhal to confront him? Why not send in her army to do the job?

  19. Why is Amon’s form in LOTV so much different than the Dark Voice portrait in WOL?

  20. Why didn’t Alarak purge the planet of Vardona where the Defenders of Man operated from? Why didn’t he steal Protoss blueprints of the Shield of Aiur / Spear of Adun for purging opponents during LOTV?

  21. In lore, who are the great minds behind all of these “protect structures or evacuee” mission plans? Why don’t they wait for the respective armies to clear the area and keep it secure before they start evacuating?

  22. What happened to the billions and billions of zerg on Char at the end of WOL? Why didn’t the broodmothers resort to Tal’darim style leadership where the strongest one gains control of the entire swarm and then go after Warfield?

  23. Instead of enslaving the zerg and protoss, why was the hybrid never its own race? Surely if combining the two races created stronger soldiers, why didn’t Narud / Amon create their own independent army that wouldn’t ever turn on them?

  24. Why is Artanis so incompetent? He uses sunk cost fallacy to retake Aiur at the beginning of LOTV by telling Zeratul that enough Protoss had already died retaking it. But any competent commander would change tactics with the relevation of new information, especially if it comes from Zeratul the other defender of Shakuras at the end of the Protoss campaign in BW.

  25. If Rohana found Terran mouths disgusting (probably reminding her of sex organs), how do the other Protoss take the Terrans seriously? I wouldn’t be able to keep it together if my wartime colleagues were using their genitals to communicate with each other.

  26. Who is the Voice of the Darkness?

Because no court with authority to prosecute her exists.

The better is question what can he do?

She is way too powerful for that. The process can’t really work on highly psionic individual. Deinfested Kerrigan is also part Zerg. That might interfere with the procedure.

It contains a catalyse fluid that activate her domant Zerg and empowered them. (My personal theory, though)

Real life explanation is copyright. Blizzard cannot use the word Cerebrate. In lore explanation is that she doesn’t trust them or just want to evolve her Swarm to the next level.

Zerus is extremely far away from Korpulu Sector. The Primal also live in isolaton from the Zerg and pretty much everyone in the Sector.

What is the point of having credit if you’re not going to spend them for some fun with your husband?

He want to force some drama… I mean he want to have some insurance against Kerrigan.

To subdue Raynor’s ghost.

I don’t think the time dilation works the way you think it does. Want me to explain in detail?

He is too weak. Just look at Hero of the Storm. Also, no, there is nothing to gain from study the battle field first hand. He can just study fron afar with the same efficiency.

He was too weak to contact and control them at the time, I think.

Because politic is not about approval rate. Who else is going to lead the Terran? Most of the millitary is loyal to him, still. No revolution can be successed without help from current millitary; that’s just dream/misconception.

She need to kill him with her own hand. Even if it meant risking her life pointlessly.

Well, the dark voice is hallucination preceive by Zeratul some discrepancy is to be expected.

The Tal’darim is not the Khalai. It’s quite possible that they have no planetary weapon.

He might have stolen the blue print. However, he can’t construct one with his resource. The Tal’darim apparently bad at that. Most of their hardware is stole and modified Khalai’s.

They were on the process of that. Kerrigan came in and take over via the very method you desribe.

He did, didn’t he? That’s his whole plan. It’s just that making an army purely out of Hybrid is expensive. And why wouldn’t you mind slave your opponent’s army?

You give Zeratul too much credit. Artanis was on the verge of invasion. Any competent commander cannot simply stop his most important fight simply because someone came out of the blue and tell him don’t. The invasion takes years and years of preparation and intel gathering. It wasn’t like he attack small town in remote location. he know where this is. He has intel on the general situation of the Sector. There is no way he could have seen Amon’s coming.

Careful, now. Moderator might delete your question. Anyway, the answer is they don’t. Or rather didn’t. The Protoss didn’t respect the terran right away. Tassadar was more of an exception than the norm.

Amon

Other question, I don’t know the answer. But Brother Bifrost is probably answering them right now! (Beat you to it, I did!)

Oh look, a poster with actual critical thinking abilities.

I don’t mind at all. Although I can’t claim absolute certainty in every answer. I will mention in the answer if I am not sure about it.

  1. In the case of LotV, I am quite certain it is because there were changes in the creative team between WoL and LotV, but I can’t tell you why. But the change is definitely there because I would call Vorazun attractive as well.

  2. There is a long debate about this one why was this the creative choice in the real world, but in the universe itself, no one could punish her at the end of the story.

  3. Because the Dominion attacks almost immediately after and also Valerian kind of needs her. Because Raynor wouldn’t let him and Valerian is reliant on Raiders at this point. These are certain.

  4. That’s a plot hole, but ignoring Kerrigan from the narrative standpoint is kind of necessary for the story to move on.

  5. Because… sigh Overmind didn’t have true purity of essence. I prefer not to think about purities.

  6. Well, Kerrigan had to kill old school Cerebrates because of Brood War and there were no new Cerebrates because in-universe she was creating her own underlings, but in reality, there are no cerebrates in SC II, because Blizzard wanted to be on good terms with Games Workshop, who owns the Warhammer franchise.

  7. Because Zerus is not in Korprulu sector, it’s pretty far. It is kinda questionable how quickly Kerrigan got there from Kaldir, but the biggest problem was probably finding Zerus, not the distance and Zeratul has already found it.

  8. Not the best explanation, but Mira Han is absolutely nuts.

  9. Because he wanted to use him as leverage. It obviously backfired real’ hard.

  10. It do be like that. Makes zero sense. Vanity? Here I am not sure. It’s BS.

  11. We don’t know when he got out or how. There is no certain answer to this.

  12. Same answer. Amon’s team is kind of inept, so that plays a role.

  13. We don’t know, but we know he’s not with Zagara. He can’t return home because he’s Infested. I am not sure about this, but warp defies real-world physics, I wouldn’t factor this into it.

  14. Use other Zerg creatures. Entering combat inefficient. Abathur is not a combatant, in Heroes of the Storm he usually fights through something known as Symbiote (sometimes called “Hat”). He doesn’t engage the fight directly. Not his purpose.

  15. They actually realized that. Nyon’s Tal’darim (the ones from WoL) are not the same as the ones from Slayn in LotV. Alarak has a joke line about Nyon basically being too high on terrazine gas. So possible explanation is that Narud lost control over the artifacts because he lost control over Nyon’s part of the sect.

  16. Graven Hill has no canon appearance after WoL. So we don’t know. They are ex-Confederate units, not Confederate units. For example Devild Dogs.

  17. Because they got repressed? I don’t know. That’s a plot hole.’

  18. Because she’s kinda angry and kinda dumb. Like… without the player Kerrigan is not really a great commander.

  19. Amon’s true form was not shown in WoL. He was supposed to be some sort of enigmatic presence. Also, he probably has shape-shifting abilities. with his true form being permanent only in The Void.

  20. Death Fleet is way weaker than Golden Armada, with Gorgons Dominion actually has a chance to go toe to toe with it because it is unlikely Alarak sent everything. Gorgons above Vardona prevented purification. Purification takes time.

Shield of Aiur wasn’t part of the Daelaam during LotV and Spear of Adun is not a Daelaam construct. It was built during Rohana’s times. That ship is centuries old and if there were any blueprints, they were lost during the Fall of Aiur. Karax probably does his best to reverse engineer the hell out of it.

  1. On Adria, you don’t have time. In lore, it is impossible for you to hold the planet. In gameplay, you can have fun with Battlecruisers or Banshees on Normal and easily clearing the entire map. In case of The Dig, the Tal’Darim presence on Xil is probably supposed to be stronger than what you can field.

Usually the explanation is “No time for this”. Raynor doesn’t have the resources to fight the Swarm, Tal’Darim or Dominion in the long run.

  1. Every Broodmother thought she’s the one to lead them. See Nafash and Zagara. A lot of Zerg were cleaned up by Dominion presence after23 All In.

  2. Well, Hybrids never turned on them, did they? And Amon wanted to poop on the philosophy and legacy of the other Xel’Naga.

  3. Because plot demands it.

  4. I don’t think there is a reason to think mouths remind her of genitals. Likely it is because Protoss communicate psionically and she finds mouths and acoustic communication primitive.

  5. No clue. But we will probably never see it. Very much like Ulrezaj. In my opinion, someone wanted to introduce an Eldritch horror to Starcraft.

I think the word you are looking for here is actually… spirit.

'Cause purity.

Ask Jimmy nicely to tell her to stop.

Please don’t.

Not necessarily. We know that when he was Feral after All In, no Broodmother could control him and that he consumed other Zerg creatures. He’s not weak, it’s just combat is not his purpose and he’s all about purpose.

They’re not the same Tal’Darim.

Because she is dumb. Not that you are wrong in your assesment.

stolen*
I don’t think Alarak is even allowed to look into stuff like that. At that point the Solar Core is guarded by freaking Talandar and he probably wouldn’t let Alarak snoop around.

Yeah, we have player’s insight in this one.

Voice in the Darkness is not Dark Voice. Look up the wiki.

Counterpoint : Ayatollahs in Iran managed to seize power despite the military opposing them in most cases. How did they achieve that ? Well, they made their own paramilitary forces, with blackjack and religious fanatism

Remember Shadow Wars :stuck_out_tongue:

Remember what ?’ :P’

The redhead worst’s nightmare

I mean I often forget these, so please update me.

There is a picture of Primal Kerrigan holding Niadra’s larva in the comic. Aka Kaldir comes after Zerus :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh I forgot that’s the name of that thing. Of course I remember baby Niadra.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Because no court with authority to prosecute her exists.

So why not prosecute her under Dominion law?

The better is question what can he do?

Why was there never any insurance used against her? For example, psi disruptors? He let her go ham because he’s never seen hatcheries and drones in-person before.

She is way too powerful for that. The process can’t really work on highly psionic individual. Deinfested Kerrigan is also part Zerg. That might interfere with the procedure.

Except there’s nothing in the lore to indicate that memory wipes can’t be effective on high-level psionic users. Valerian abolished the practice, but there’s no reason why he wouldn’t use it against Kerrigan.

It contains a catalyse fluid that activate her domant Zerg and empowered them. (My personal theory, though)

OK, fair enough.

OK, didn’t know. Thank you.

What is the point of having credit if you’re not going to spend them for some fun with your husband?

I can think of a plethora of ways to spend time with an SO without causing a couple hundred deaths and a few hundred million credits. Flower-infused bathwater, scented candles, and all chores done sounds much better and more frugal.

He want to force some drama… I mean he want to have some insurance against Kerrigan.

Dumbest mistake of all time considering Raynor was able to set up shop on Korhal too.

To subdue Raynor’s ghost.

???

I don’t think the time dilation works the way you think it does. Want me to explain in detail?

They traveled at sub-speed of light to arrive in the Koprulu Sector. In the short amount of time it took to travel to the Koprulu Sector, many years may have gone by depending on the velocity relative to the speed of light they traveled.

He is too weak. Just look at Hero of the Storm. Also, no, there is nothing to gain from study the battle field first hand. He can just study fron afar with the same efficiency.

I thought HOTS was non-canon?

He was too weak to contact and control them at the time, I think.

Narud doesn’t control Tal’darim - they volunteer to serve Narud because they know he is Amon’s servant:

Another group of Tal’darim was discovered to be inhabiting the lower levels of Skygeirr Station, working for Emil Narud. These Tal’darim worshiped the fallen xel’naga Amon.[17][18] They also defended Amon’s temple at Skygeirr Station, working directly with Amon’s servant, Emil Narud, willingly allowing him to experiment on them for his goals.[32]

Because politic is not about approval rate. Who else is going to lead the Terran? Most of the millitary is loyal to him, still. No revolution can be successed without help from current millitary; that’s just dream/misconception.

I’d say Mengsk’s second-in-command would be the most obvious choice.

She need to kill him with her own hand. Even if it meant risking her life pointlessly.

I mean it wouldn’t have hard to ask a few zerglings to bring Mengsk alive to her? And she would still kill him herself personally?

Well, the dark voice is hallucination preceive by Zeratul some discrepancy is to be expected.

I don’t remember the Dark Voice being a hallucination because Amon is actually talking to Zeratul and all the heroes in Utter Darkness mission.

The Tal’darim is not the Khalai. It’s quite possible that they have no planetary weapon.

He might have stolen the blue print. However, he can’t construct one with his resource. The Tal’darim apparently bad at that. Most of their hardware is stole and modified Khalai’s.

It’d be unlike of Alarak to maintain status quo to make the Tal’darim better by having dedicated engineers and scientists given what he saw of the Daelaam, but oh well.

They were on the process of that. Kerrigan came in and take over via the very method you desribe.

Yes, but they started warring with other when they had victory in grasp. Should’ve vyed for Overqueen status AFTER the zerg swarm reclaimed Char.

He did, didn’t he? That’s his whole plan. It’s just that making an army purely out of Hybrid is expensive. And why wouldn’t you mind slave your opponent’s army?

Because they ended up turning on Amon in the end. Some of the Khalai soldiers they thought they controlled cut their cords and rejoined the Daelaam. The zerg army they controlled were limited in number because once Kerrigan became primal, her broods were no longer under Amon’s control.

Zeratul literally appeared and told him to halt the entire invasion. The tragedy here is that Artanis didn’t fully consider Zeratul’s counsel. If someone told Eisenhower that the Germans had stationed 100 more machine guns turrets on the beaches of Normandy, the best course of action would be to reassess and replan their attack.

Amon

Amon is not the Voice of the Darkness. Amon is the Dark Voice.

Answer to all of Eric’s questions = writer fiat & laziness.

The better question is why didn’t anyone actually treat Kerrigan like the mass murderer that she is? (apart from her victims)

There’s no evidence that anyone thought she was worth prosecuting.

Before anyone else chimes in, “oh but what would they do to her?” is a fanboy cop-out, not evidence. People were rude to Kerrigan in BW despite not being in a position to do anything to her.

This statement is lazy.

:exploding_head:

You actually get it somewhat. The warp technology kind of render the whole thing nonsense.

Basically, it’s about relative time. Unless Earth and Korpulu Sector is moving with crazily high relative speed, time should tick at about the same speed on both place. Since the Terran discovered the Zerg and the Protoss this lifetime, the UED should also discover them this life time as well.

And you think that’s completely stop him? Alarak might found a way around it somehow. Emphasis on might.

Ah~~

I forgot that Cthulhu knock off.

Yeah, you’re right; I was being too dramatize. Still, my point is that people of the Dominion can’t successfully revolt against millitary regime. The situation has to be much wrost. Or they have to be much more fanatic.

You understand what I mean? The Dominion can’t bring her to its court. Think about it. Can Iranian court prosecute any of the United State Official?

Think of his situation at the moment. He can’t impliment much. Also, he did it once in a comic about those time (I can’t remember its name). It didn’t go so well. It’s better to let her lose than use some sloppy measure against her.

There are! Just read the latest short story for a start. The Dark Templar Saga also talk about it.

Dude, you need to understand that I love make jess.

See above.

Yeah, it all doesn’t matter. It’s about relative time and velocity between earth and Korpulu Sector that you need to concern yourself with. Even if we go crazy and say that the relative velocity is at 25% speed of light, the time different is only at about 15%. While UED might discover the Zerg and the Protoss a bit sooner than the Confederacy, there is no way Stukov was sent so long in the past that would make your case true.

Again, I was joking. According to a novel called ‘Evolution’. He is quite a competent fighter.

I’d say Mengsk’s second is also implicate in the incedent.

In Utter Darkness is a hallucination.

That’s not how the Zerg operate, though. They vie for power first; finding the strongest and fittest.

They’re freebie. Amon didn’t make them. He just mind control them to his side. The only army that he actually create is those Hybrid.

Base on unverifiable information. This is not Eisenhower being told there is a hundred more machine guns. This is Eisenhower being told that a Superradiant Bomb (it’s a bomb so advance that we can’t hope to make at the moment) is placed on the beaches.

Think about what is actually being told; what Artanis know at the moment.
