Tbh, trying to keep this “reworked” Mercy is really living in a bubble. Heaven knows Blizz tried everything. They nerfed Mercy more than any other character in the game in less time than any other. We are hitting the 10th straigh nerf and nothing is fixed yet. How can be this? If you take a look to Mercy’s kit you should notice why.
E rez, no matter how it comes, is too powerful as an E ability. It’s too radical, so it will be either impossible to use or too powerful. Btw, it immobilizes Mercy, who is supposed to be a mobile support. Immobility and mobility are antonyms, so they can’t fit. Immobility has no placement in Mercy’s kit, as it contradicts her main concept as a character. It also forces her to hide by making that rez 100% reliant on where did her teammate die (yes, it can have more thoughts behind, but they are all secondary), forces her to stop doing her job, leaving her teammates to die, and allows uncounterable metas like grav + dragon.
Valkirie is not as powerful as E rez and tbh it’s not good design. Blizz already tried it before game’s release and they had to replace it entirely by mass rez because it was better and healthier. After that, they had to remove stationary mode because of something similar to what is happening now with E rez. Valkirie allows even the worst player to do the basic Mercy’s hard work for free. Chained beams remove prioritizing targets and the increased range, flight and self regen allows her to just fly out of range or even hide taking no risks at all. Infinite ammo allows a bad player to just keep the fight going without risking too much, thanks to self regen. Valkirie brings nothing else to the game but an ez mode that removes all Mercy’s weaknesses, aka single target fragile support with low survivality when alone and survivality reliant on her teammates.
These two abilities make Mercy good for absolutely every comp and situation with no drawbacks. She has no weaknesses and she is incredibly easy to play/master now. Yes, now her healing is getting nerfed too, but that only makes her to work slower, the same good as always, while being miserable to play and turning valkirie into an unengaging amp it up.
So, wanting a revert at this point is not a nonsense. As this reverted Mercy (both valkirie and stationary rez were removed for good before game’s release, and she had 50 hp/s healing before too, needing a buff after some time) is not working and won’t work because it’s straigh bad design, the only two options are a revert forward to mass rez or a rework. Anyway, rez can’t be removed because it’s too important for Mercy and Ow. It’s 1/3 her identity, 100% her signature together with the “Heroes never die!” voice line, which sadly will never fit with valk, and each patch fits less with it, as that ultimate is further and further from saving anyone from anything. It appears in Mercy’s lore, poses, sprays, potgs and even real statues like OWL’s. Finally, it’s the main reason of why she is so well known in and out of the game, being a great advertising claim. Valkirie will never bring anything remotely similar to this, so it can be either turned into an E ability or entirely removed. Those are the only two things that Mercy needs. Replacements for her E and Q, knowing that rez needs to be placed somewhere else. Any other change at this point, is meaningless because we know the only two possible results:
1- Mercy remains the same as always but she is more annoying to play.
2- Mercy dies.
I’m sorry if you love this design, but it’s straigh bad. Maybe Blizz could try to find some mid ground between both Mercys, but they need to fix another last problem. The rework was really undesired by the most of the Mercy community. By unleashing it, they alienated a huge amount of players. Some of them are still playing Mercy but they don’t enjoy her. Other left her or even the game, but they want to come back. That’s a huge problem that Blizz should fix.
