If role queue failed, what makes you think 1 - 2 - 2 won't?

actually…role-less queue never failed

222 was inflicted on us due to the need for 222 in OWL. It was never needed in the game we non-pros play, but it was unfortunately added anyway, and when it was added it created many severe problems for players, including but not limited to the excessive wait times

There have been many indications that Blizzard realizes that role queue is a big problem, and they have spent a lot of time and money attempting to bandaid one of the more severe issues, with little success as far as I can tell. at some point, when an aspect of a software package (like this game) is causing a lot of grief and costing a lot of time and money to patch, someone with decision making power will start to question whether said aspect needs to be removed or replaced.

One question, my home internet had been down all day so I haven’t been on to check but has qpc been added back yet?

Jeff posted some usage data about a year and a half back

again, usage data, not preference/popularity data

usage <> preference/popularity

further, the data was for a single day when open queue had been reintroduced to the game not more than a day or two before, and was buried in the arcade where many players never even saw i or new about it

bottom line: this data isnt valid for determination of popularity of the modes

ROFL. Role queue is multiple times more popular than open queue. I’m a slightly above average player in role queue, and borderline T500 in open queue.

as I stated earlier, I know of no valid data to support this conclusion

I won’t belabor that point further in this side conversation

You realize you can extrapolate the cutoff for T500 to estimate the player population (or at least the population that plays 50+ games a season), right? The rank distributions have been posted multiple times.

Exactly. At no point did tanks quit because they don’t want to play tanks. They quit because GOATS was a massive mess that eliminated also any non-Rein/D.va/Zarya tank and after enjoying a proper tank balance for a few months we got Sigma released upon the game in a state which made him the best iteration of a hero in the history of OW. When that means degenerated double barriers meta for 1,5 years with even 1 less tank being viable than with the entire GOATS era, but not just that but the tanks are legacy tanks that have been in the game for years and have accumulated players for them for years, the damage is even higher. THEN they nerf all the tanks except Winston down which makes even more tank players quit especially when DPS was dealing GOATS era damage with a Mercy pocket and a -30% Zen discord

Then we wonder why we don’t have enough tank players. THEY GOT SYSTEMATICALLY BULLIED OUT OF THE GAME IS WHY WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TANK PLAYERS

This is simply not all true. My personal reason advocating for role queue was simply to limit how many dps were on the team. They were killing the game. Yes open queue is a better format IF people played to win instead of playing for their own personal satisfaction over the teams… Many regular non owl people wanted role queue.

What’s awesome is all the evidence is here on the forums. Go to the top of the page and click the search icon. type something like “role queue” “role lock” “2/2/2” “limit dps” or anything like that then press space and add this " before:2019-06-16 date date ".

Here are a few from both sides with plenty of discussion.

This one here is asking the forums to stop spamming asking for role queue lol :
Role select will NOT happen

It seems the rest of your argument and reasoning steams from an error. Regular people were dying for role queue and it wasnt just for owl. Tanks support and dps all benefit greatly in gameplay quality. Dps just have to wait longer because there are more dps and nobody wants a team full of dps. They have to wait because they are choosing to pick the role that we don’t need any more of.

To fix queue times for dps, blizzard has to make some of those dps not want to play dps so the players that do want to play dps don’t have to wait as long. They never could do that it seems.

it is true, and I wont belabor the point further in this side discussion

and many did not want it, and spoke up against the idea of adding it to the game

I was one of these

not at all

I assume by “regular people” you mean non-pros

Feel free to correct me, but I will proceed on that assumption

I am a regular person, and I felt (and still feel) that 222 infesting the game was THE worst change ever made to the game

Many other regular folks like myself have stated the same in many queuing threads on these forums (and other internet discussion media) ever since 222 was inflicted upon us

I find the gameplay quality overall to be far far better in role-less queue matches than in 222 matches

this is only one of the many severe problems 222 added to the game

there are other methods as well, such as working towards making playing a tank more desirable

but this effort was never undertaken, and now we face 122 instead, which I do not know will solve (or even ameliorate) the excessive wait time problem

If you’re saying that this is the ONLY reason that 2/2/2 was implemented when there is ample evidence right here on the forums, in this thread that you don’t even have to search for, that 2/2/2 was not just added for owl, and more importantly no “hard evidence” that blizzard added 2/2/2 just for owl as in Blizzard stating “hey we added 2/2/2 because owl is getting wrecked (not the game as a whole, just owl)”…, then really there isn’t anything else to discuss here. I do suspect you’ll end up pretty disappointed in the end.

Right. Data doesn’t match my beliefs therefore it is invalid. Common sense my guy. Would expect nothing less.

not at all

invalid data is invalid on its own merits, or rather, lack thereof

my personal stance on any issue is irrelevant in regards to whether data on said issue is valid or not

RQ failed how?
the only thing that failed is nobody wanted to play tank due to them being powerful yes but requiring so so so much support and it not being fun to play tank into hanzo mcree and other shield break heroes that probably shouldnt be good at it

Role queue is only bad because tank and support is boring to play but important. (Tank is 2x boring, support is 1.5 lol)

My experience pre role queue is… everyone play 0/1 tanks, 4/5 dps, 1/2 support. Then my team decides to switch to tank or support on the verge of losing.

If tank and support was more fun to play… or more dps like… role queue wouldn’t be bad.

Actually Orisa seen a mirror matched just yesterday in a double barrier style comp, where the sigma’s where playing like flank hogs.

I totally disagree, i recent tested play again open queue, is worst thing, without role restriction people pick anything they “think is better” but in fact is worst…

Many DPS to apply damage (but in fact half of that DPS player is bad), less support to hold healing demand, and very rare people picking tanks, that can block heavy damage/ultimate and hold objective.

Sure that role queue is bad?

At least we can ensure that the game will have that roles.

It’s hard to say whether it “failed” when we don’t have access to any real stats. We don’t know overall player numbers, player retention, nor do we have an accurate analysis of queue times that aren’t colored by anecdotes. Even with those stats we can’t really be sure because games tend to naturally decay in popularity over time, with or without bad decisions.

In my personal view, queue times went up and total player counts went down as a result of role queue in the long term, and I think 1-2-2 will do the same (In the long term, obviously player counts will spike as a result of OW2’s release).
