Lynx 17 (Support) Hero Kit
HP: 200
100 Health & 100 Shields a la Symmetra.
Passive: Radar Sense/Information Matrix
Every 10-15 seconds, Lynx 17’s bunny ears emit a spherical sonic wave, scouting through walls at around the range of Hanzo’s pre-rework scatter arrow & displaying enemies to your team.
Also, any enemy that stays within Lynx’s LoS for a period of a second or 2 will have their health bar revealed to your team, via Lynx’s 3 diodes in their head scanning the enemy.
(That last bit is more for lore, the visual display for such a thing could introduce a lot of visual clutter.)
“Hmmm, my spy sense is tingling…”
“And you thought I wouldn’t find you. You can’t keep a good hacker locked out.”
Primary Weapon Ideas
I have a few weapon ideas for Lynx, & the choice of weapon could impact their kit; but I would posit that any weapon they do have would be grafted into their body somehow.
“Well of course I’ve put a gun in my arm; I’m a machine right? To me, human, this is just like you wearing a watch on your wrist.”
Potential Weapons
Taser:
Fires a projectile from Lynx’s palm that locks on to an enemy if the projectile successfully makes contact. Then delivers up to 50 HP/s damage while the link is established. No stun, but maybe a slight slowing effect.
The wire connecting Lynx to the enemy can be broken by enemy fire or the physical environment.
No ammo count, just relies on latching the projectile to an enemy.
Pressing R while the link is active will retract the cable to Lynx. This could initiate a short stun; or could cause a burst of electricity that arcs to other enemies. This will not occur if the link is merely broken.
You could have this affect allies as well, but healing the chosen ally while connected.
OR
Lynx fires small projectile balls of electricity that when contacting an enemy, deal a flat base damage, but the electricity also arcs out from them to nearby enemies, dealing a smaller DoT.
20 shots, possibly in multi-round bursts like Lucio’s weapon or single shot like Zen’s orbs.
This (especially the second version) is my least favourite weapon that I’ve thought of, but does have some interesting potential & has some similarities to your Lynx kit xD.
Bio-Gun / Chemical Thrower:
Projects a gaseous chemical from a fixture mounted to Lynx’s forearm.
Has a high ammo count (100-200?) & projects in a cone at a short distance ahead of Lynx, similar to Moira’s healing spray.
The spray damages all enemies & heals all allies caught in the cone of chemicals simultaneously.
It causes initial damage / healing as the spray contacts them, but also latches on to enemies & allies after prolonged exposure (2-3 seconds) & then deals damage / healing over time (D/HoT) after the initial contact for another few seconds.
Both allies & enemies will have a visual indicator to them being coated with healing/damage over time.
OR the spray actually comes out in an arc & is much more fluid & viscous, but sticks to surfaces & the floor, dealing damage / healing to anyone who steps into the area. It could also slow enemies & build up the D/HoT. Although, this is also a possibility for a relative ability.
Either way, must have pretty low base damage/healing numbers, but deals a lot of such over time.
Omnic Drain Darts:
5-8 silver pyramid-shaped darts hover around Lynx’s head. (When they are not active, they can be worn as coverings for Lynx’s fingers, or slot onto their shoulders somewhere. This is more relevant from a lore standpoint, but recalling them to your hand could also act as the reload animation.)
Each one is fired individually at a similar rate to Zen’s primary fire, working as faster projectile versions of his orbs.
Each does a decent instance of damage (40-60?)
When a dart contacts a surface or an enemy, it becomes embedded in the surface or enemy.
Pressing R while any amount of darts are embedded recalls them to Lynx, dealing damage & penetrating enemies & surfaces on the return journey for the same base damage as an initial shot.
When recalling a dart from an embedded enemy, the enemy takes a very small (5-10 HP?) amount of damage as the dart dislodges.
This reload could visually see Lynx gesturing to recall them into their hand, each dart covering a finger, before flicking their hand upwards to reset the darts hovering above their head.
The drain aspect of this is covered in E abilities.
Nano-bot Swarm
A swarm of nano-bots encircle Lynx’s hand.
Holding primary fire unleashes a wide cone of in front of Lynx. The longer this is held, the tighter & longer the cone becomes & the higher instance of damage each tick delivers. This could also heal allies in the vicinity, but could work without this due to the relevant E ability.
Again, high ammo count (100-200) or a resource meter or even an overheat system would be needed for this.
Alternate Fire (RMB) [Regardless of chosen weapon]: Overclock
Hacks an ally/their weapons in order to reset their cooldowns.
Targeting works exactly as Sombra’s hack, but on allies.
Could also provide individual a small speed boost.
You could take this even further & have every character have a unique interaction with this ability, but that would take ages so I’ll leave that for now xD.
“Go ahead darling, don’t say I don’t do anything for you.”
“…And they say hackers can never be up to any good.”
Ability 1 (Shift): Decoy Scout
Summon a clone of Lynx that copies the current movement input at the time of pressing Shift (standing still, running in the set direction, including mid-jump) until the decoy contacts a surface & dissipates with no further effect.
Up to 3 charges, dependant on desired further utility.
(See Titanfall 2’s tactical ability Holo Pilot for some gameplay examples:)
A video example
Further applications for this ability could include:
-
Destroyed decoys emit a recon scan like Lynx’s passive/Hanzo’s Sonic Arrow, or highlight the enemy that destroyed it a la Sombra’s Opportunist.
-
Pressing interact (F) while a decoy is active will swap Lynx’s position with that of the oldest/last decoy summoned. Unsure which is better to use, possibly the newest summon works best. Symmetra’s teleporter interaction will take priority over this if you are stood on the teleporter.
-
Some degree of AI so the decoy turns corners, jumps gaps, pretends to shoot at enemies (with no damage), but this could be difficult or unnecessary & possibly a drain on servers or the player’s system.
“Simple; copy & paste.”
“Oh wow, do my hips really sway like that? I like it. Kinda…human.”
“As if I’d show you the real me.”
Ability 2 (E): Weapon-related abilities
I feel that Lynx needs some kind of healing ability to work as a true support but I’ve struggled to come up with any particular over-arching one, so I’m trying to make them fit with how their weapon operates.
“How strange, to use a weapon to heal wounds. It’s almost like giving consciousness to an automaton…”
Weapon-related abilities
Taser - Life-Link
Soft-lock on a la Zen’s Harmony Orb.
A second taser connection links briefly to an ally, depleting Lynx’s 100 shields instantly for a flat burst heal of 150/200 that also overheals the target with temporary shields.
Any damage Lynx takes during this cast-time will be shared between Lynx & the target, first being depleted solely from the target’s temporary shields.
I have no idea how to make the electric ball version also heal.
“What a beautiful sentiment, conjoining my life force with that of another. Are we truly that different after all?”
“We are linked, together. Is this what human relations feel like?”
Bio-Gun / Chemical Thrower - A few ideas
- Pressing E switches the thrower from damage to healing mode. This version would always use the most viscous form of spray so it can always leave puddles of damage/healing specifically.
- Pressing E makes the spray more viscous for a short time, so it can stick to surfaces & form pools on the floor that heal allies & damage & slow enemies present within it, while also building up the D/HoT (damage/healing over time) effect.
This would only be usable with the spray version, making the viscous fluid a temporary buff. - Pressing E empties the ammo clip, leaving a huge puddle in front of Lynx, & forces Lynx backwards a distance dependant on the amount of ammo used. This instantly places the D/HoT upon anyone caught in the initial blast.
The puddle causes damage&slow/healing while anyone is present inside it & also builds up the character-bound D/HoT as usual.
This could work with either form of the weapon (spray or viscous liquid).
Lynx also heals directly & builds up HoT from being stood in the pools of biotic fluid.
“An Omnic using bio-tech? Yeah I know, the irony is palpable.”
Omnic Drain Darts - Leech Life
Hitting enemies with darts gains each specific dart a resource of stolen life points (half/percentage/whole damage dealt?).
Using R to recall your darts will give this stolen health to Lynx in form of a resource meter.
Pressing E disperses this built-up health in a burst aura, healing every ally (& Lynx) in range for a flat amount based on the built-up health.
You could also have the darts’ R ability heal any allies/the first ally that they pass through on their return journey, sacrificing that dart’s specific health to them rather than gaining it for your resource.
“I can feel your energy coursing through me; is this what it feels like to be human? Does it always feel this tingly?”
“Only a poor hacker wouldn’t distribute their findings.”
Nano-bot Swarm - Overhaul
Pressing E sends a portion of your cloud of nano-bots over to an ally, coating them in a cloud of nano-bots. This subtracts from your max ammo count / resource meter & has no cooldown.
While covered in bots, the ally gains health over time & also deals damage over time to any nearby enemies.
“Go forth my micro-friends!”
“Now, the million or so of you be nice to the human; they need your help. Yes, you, Jimmy #2501.”
Ultimate (Q):
Scrambled Signal/Deaf-Mute OR False Encryption/Trojan Trick
Scrambled Signal/Deaf-Mute
Distort enemy visuals of all characters; allies & enemies, including health bars.
Possibly cover them with a Pachimari symbol.
Basically, anything to prevent enemy knowledge of who they are targeting.
Lasts 6-10 seconds. Map-wide.
Also removes benefits of recon abilities such as Sonic Arrow or Infra-Sight, but should last less time than Infra-Sight so as to not completely counter it.
“Virus administered!”
“Who’s the man laughing now?”
“We are all naught but information. So maybe, we are all far more alike than we first thought.”
False Encryption/Trojan Trick
Create visual clones of all allies in a large radius / within LoS that replicate their original’s movements & actions, without dealing any damage.
Enemies receive hit markers for hitting either version, but only the original takes actual damage.
The clone models will appear on either the left or right of the affected players, or this can be chosen by Lynx so as to ensure to not give the game away.
Or the clone models emerge from the affected players based on their current trajectory so as to create immediate visual confusion as to which is which.
It is then up to each individual to prevent from revealing which is the clone, by keeping away from walls etc that your clone might clip into.
“Mask yourselves!”
“Encryption complete. You are hidden.”
“So, where’s Wally now? Or should I say, who’s the wally now?”
“Oh, I do love a game of hide & seek.”
Any thoughts? Any preferred weapon?
(By the way, I really like your toxicologist & the radiator tank/support )
