Saviors of uldum Mage got trash. AGAIN

Also cyclone mage is pretty good as well.

cyclone mage is a variation of giants mage which is exactly what I have been complaining about. All of the viable mage decks are merely variations of the same deck.

Mage doesn’t need to have an agro deck at all times. Freeze, Specter and Cyclone Mage all have very distinct playstyles and they all take advantage of some element of mage’s strength with freeze and cyclone’s freeze, freeze’s burn, specter’s draw and cyclone’s ability to spread small damage.

Freeze often even incorporates secrets through keysmith.

The only element of mage not on display in agro, which is arguably not even an element of mage given how often aggressive mage decks are left out of the meta.

Every deck you’ve named runs mountain giants. Call me crazy, but i fail to see the “distinct play style”

Then you have never played the decks. They have vastly different match-up spreads, completely different mulligan preferences and, particularly specters, really share very little else besides Mountain Giant.

I’ve played them all and they all seem very similar to me. For me, the win rates differ a bit and that’s about all. As I’ve said; and speaking only for myself; variations on a theme.

Looks like you are the offended one. I write it again. Nothing, absolutelly nothing you can possible write would offend me, or nothing you write, ill take personally.

And what has age to do with anything? Im 35 years old. Does that help you in any way form or shape?

My point still stands. You complaining and feeling insulted by snark and insults, would be more impressive if you didnt throw stones in a glass house. Or does this just fly over the head of your old and wise self?

And my dissagreement is merely the fact that Blizzard has just announced very potent secret cards, so your complaint that “you have watched mage get garbage yet again” is an adolecent rant as far as im concerned.

If you want more variety, look no further! Play a paladin. Heal paladin, secret paladin, dragon paladin, big paladin, mech paladin and “OTK unless armored” paladin.

You have a lot of choices what deck you want to lose with.

And if you really need some unique experience, you can always jump to Crocolisk Paladin.

I play mage, and have since the game’s inception. That wont change.
HS started out being a much more diverse and flexible game than it is now. I remember a time when each class had at least two distinct decks each. I suppose those days are dead…

Cyclone mage, dragon mage are there.

I had success with some homebrew frost-fire mage. I guess mostly because players thought I am cyclone.

Was trying some spellpower mage with so-so results.

Mage has solid cards to choose from atm so experiment a bit.

I would love to see a return to actual flexibility. The new secret cards are interesting but too many tools have rotated for secrets to be a thing without new smaller support cards being printed.

When?

Naxx days had more than one each, so did GvG. Really up until adventures were killed there was a lot more variation. Mind you, not always two top tier decks, but still players saw a much deeper assortment of decks.
A far cry from now when players have to pretend that three different versions of Giants mage is “diverse”

Okay, outside of your mind, a minion deck, a miracle deck and a control burn deck are, in fact, 3 different decks.

That aside, CoN and GvG would have been considered dumpster fires compared to modern expansions, dominated almost entirely by the flavour of the month hunter deck.

I did not play through those expansions, but when I bring up ONK as the worst ever meta and just about everyone who was around at the time counters with Undertaker Hunter, you know it’s bad.

I cant speak for Hunter. I never have really played it, But I can remember when mage had freeze, secrets and burn all in the same meta,

Secret and burn were the same deck.

not necessarily. and there was always tempo until blizz killed mana wyrm

I am confused. Over its lifetime mage has had a few different decks:

  • Freeze Mage
  • Agro Freeze Mage (briefly at the end of ONK)
  • Casino Tempo Mage
  • Secret Tempo Mage
  • Murloc Tempo Mage
  • Grinder Control Mage
  • Kazakus Control Mage
  • Minion Mage
  • Miracle Mage

Only one variant of freeze or tempo has been viable at a time. Two variants of control were viable only briefly in JtU, where is it was equally viable to run Kazakus and non-Kazakus builds. Murloc, Minion and Miracle decks have only existed within the past 6 months to a year.

I honestly cannot remember another time when more than two mage builds were viable.

Sorry but no one will be crying for Mage. The class that has been solid for essentially the entirety of its hearthstone existence (compared to other classes who go from sucking to OP and back to sucking again).

i used to run freeze, straight tempo, (which i call burn ) and then a secrets variant of tempo as well and i did that right up until mana wyrm was killed. (Also secrets supports all rotated out without any replacements) When Blizzard killed Wyrm they killed aggressive and early deck mages. I still say the secrets cards they are giving us aren’t enough to bring back a secret based deck. Not enough support.
