I bought the Masters Bundle. Didn’t get even one legendary. I saw people on social media where they got 3 Golden Legendaries and 3 normal…feeling cheated, what kind of algorithm does Blizzard use?
You are not entitled nor guaranteed legendaries when you buy packs, I thought everyone who plays this game longer than a few months knew this by now.
If you buy bundles with the expectation of getting multiple legendaries, the issue lies with you, not Blizzard.
I know you are feeling down about those people on social media making stuff up, leading you to make a bad decision.
But I have a great deal for you. Have you heard of the Brooklyn Bridge?
Yeah buddy, will definitely consider your suggestion. Thanks a ton!
People are obviously not going to post screenshots of their pack openings unless they got really lucky. The 99% of people who got like 5 epics and 25 rares aren’t going to brag about it on the internet.
The fact that you buy packs in a bundle doesn’t just magically change legendary drop rates. It’s still 1/20 packs average and 1/40 packs guaranteed.
And don’t forget that you’re buying packs from 2 expansions.
You would have to buy 4 such bundles to be guaranteed to get at least 2 legendaries (1 from each expansion). Even with 3 bundles, you may still get 0 legendaries (although you would be very close to getting one from each expansion).
I got 14 legendaries and 1 golden legendary from 188 ROS packs (that’s way above average) and my longest dry run was still 34 packs (got legendary on 35th).
Ehm yeah, I also wonder why some streamers get 110% lucky all the time while legendaries tend to drop ~ 1:30 for me. Some openings are pretty absurd and not representitive (and also kinda make me wonder if Blizzard doesn’t add a certain dose of “luck” to certain streamer’s account results - no idea if that’s possible but it sometimes kinda feels like it).
That being said: 20 packs is not that much and the offer is a little scammy anyways because you get 10 from 2 different sets. Sets have their own pity timers which means that you should rather open 20 packs from one set if it’s legendaries you’re after ;-/
How is it “scammy”? You’re told explicitly, upfront, what you’re getting before you purchase it.
The posts are skewed towards the higher end, as it’s much more likely you’re going to announce your results if they’re amazing. Nothing new to see.
You know the streamers’ accounts are special accounts. right?
Besides the high legendary open rate, they get good cards in Arena mode.

Well.
I did open 2 legs from that bundle and already did see absurdly bad openings from streamers too like when Regis openned 130 boomsday packs with only 3 legs.
In the end of the day hit pity timer still an absurd frustration.
Can you stop to mislead people?
Streamers only have access to said accounts for events and they have to return those accounts to blizzard after they.
No streamer do pack opennings at such accounts.
Some people need to believe that the world is stacked against them to feel better about themselves.
While the world may be skewed unfavourably against many people in other parts of life, in Hearthstone most streamers just open so many more packs than everyone else (and play more matches than non-pros) that they’re statistically more likely to eventually encounter some amazing coincidence than everyone else.
If you collect card backs and heroes it isn’t a scam and the cards you get is completely RNG. They say the pity timer is 50 packs but my longest drought I’ve recorded is around the 30 pack mark.
So if you knew where you stood with Rise of Shadows and Rastakhan’s Rumble before you purchased the bundle, you could extrapolate when the next legendary will be. In the end, it’s still random.
After the obligatory Legendary within the first 10 packs of any new set, I got a golden Krag’Wa in the 11th pack. I got 1 legendary right after another…and it was golden. This was when Rastakhan came out last year and I bought the bundle.
To reiterate, it is just RNG but at least you decreased your pity timer for both sets by 10, got a new hero, new card back and some dust.
They say the pity timer is 50 packs but my longest drought I’ve recorded is around the 30 pack mark.
The pity timer for legendaries is 40 packs, not 50.
Nope. you get a shaman portrait, most hero portraits are either 10 dollars or gotta buy the 80$ preorder bundle. then you get 20 card backs. The limited time deals are something i always go for.
Oh well, I was close
Glad it’s shorter then!
Here’s a thread that discusses what sort of value you should expect when you open 20 packs from the same set…
I’m just posting this here as a community service for folks who are seeking to get the most bang for their buck within the game’s systems. Particularly, this is for people who are primarily Free To Play who are wanting to get the most value for their in-game gold. What this post does is lay out a typical Return on Investment (ROI) for 20 packs. Why 20 packs? Because the AVERAGE distribution of cards within 20 packs will typically drop at least 1 Legendary. So the ROI in this description is …
Your average result from 20 packs is going to trend towards 1 Legendary and 4 Epics. However, it’s entirely possible that a player could get 0 Legendaries and 2 Epics.
If a player is a brand new player who has never opened any packs from either set, then the Master’s Bundle will give them at least 2 Legendaries. But in the large statistical view, the average 20 pack opening will typically only see 1 Legendary. Bundles and special event deals are no guarantee of a higher return.
I just wish the hero gets added to the shop some time after the bundle leaves. Judging by the past, however, it will likely not be the case…
I just like the hero, yet have no interest in packs at all. A shame.
