In my opinion the game is just clown show at this point. 95% of games just being about mana cheating has gotten old, unfun, and has sucked every bit of agency out of the game.
I took a 5 year break and have been back for almost 7 months. I have hit legend, making it into top 500 a couple times, and used a variety of decks/classes. The past few months the game has just been getting worse and worse. No actual strategy is really left in the game. It is all about doing the same braindead strategy game after game.
Mage - Turn 4 Tsunamis
Druid - Turn 5 Dungar/Marin/Eonar
Warrior - Turn 4 or 5 Ziliax
Paladin - Turn 4 Pipsi
Warlock - Turn 3 4/4s and turn 4 8/8s
Hunter- Cheating out Beasts
Every bit of design space has been choked to death by mana cheat. It has created a game where multiple turns of playing to get ahead on board get completely and utterly wiped out by a turn where you can get between 10-30+ mana in value.
I just can’t stand how brainless this has become. Enjoy the game if you enjoy it. I took a 5 year break because the game became a slot machine of randomness, seems another 5 year break will happen because every game is just mana cheat.

Then why not quit now instead of after your current climb?
Because I am already almost legend again. I wanted to try one more deck before walking away. I did the same before.

I’m not ready to quit but I mostly agree, Not a fan of current design where many classes have multiple single turns that swing the whole game around 180. There is no such thing as gradually building a board anymore and being ahead - because everything can totally flip at a moment’s notice.
Also similar to you actually, was on a several year break and came back for Whizbang. Hit legend every season (last month did a personal high of 138 when i actually tried instead of goofing off) and will this season too. But currently playing normal “meme” decks which would normally have some viability but I’m getting absolutely roflstomped by all the mana cheating going on. There is so little room for creativity left.
It is just outright boring at this point.

Also took multiple 1-2 year breaks, got back almost a year ago, and I can’t stop having fun in the game
EDIT: I do feel the need to elaborate a bit, though. The similarity with slot machines? It’s real. I do feel addicted. However, unlike most of the people, I don’t have a love-hate relationship with the object of my addiction. I simply love it. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I can only watch turn 4-5 Pispi/Dungar/Tsunami so many times. At this point, the game has removed about 90% of skill. Every deck is autoplay.
EDIT - You just hit the nail on the head on accident I think. The game 100% is just about giving that big dopamine hit of getting that big cool turn where you did the big broken thing. That is it. That is the game. No thanks to that.

The more you think this is true, the more false it is
I can relate to this, kinda. I don’t know, I’m weird when it comes to change vs repetition. Conflicted to the bone. I’ll be very anxious when things change, and I resist that change with every fiber of my being, but then again, I long for the change and HAVE to do something that feels like a change, but not big enough to be a real change.
It’s not an accident. I have a lifelong experience with addictions, so I can recognize one easily. And if that is indeed their goal (makes sense), they’re doing a fine job.
What I meant is that you accidentally hit the nail on why I hate it now. I hate gambling and that is what this feels like now. Every game just feels like a roll of the dice on who will do the big dumb broken thing. So yeah, that is exactly why I am peacing out.

It’s not really gambling if you’re not losing any money, I think. I mean, you can hardly ruin your life and lives of your closest ones with Hearthstone, lol.
Sure, it’s theoretically possible, but not likely to happen, and any negativity stemming out of HS (ab)use is just another sympthom, not a disease at its root.
Take a break, sure. Speak your mind, why not. But I don’t like and I don’t support this doompost campaign you’re enjoying xD It’s like you can’t stand to deal with your negativity alone and you wish others would join you/agree with you, although we’re all different just as much as we’re alike, so it’s not quite likely anyone feels the exact same way you do about it.
I’d rather be “gambling” on HS than on Poker Stars ever again.
Word of caution: I never really had a gambling addiction. There are a few addictions I’m immune to - gambling and drinking. Rest is up for grabs. But under the influence of other drugs I’ve had a streak of gambling which didn’t end well, so I can truthfully say I’ve got to know that one, too.
Anyway, just thought that was important to emphasize in case someone with addiction problems reads this and gets confused/agitated.
You lose something FAR FAR worse than money. You lose time.
As for doom posting, I am making my honest thoughts known in hopes that maybe in the future the game might change OR others feeling the same see they are not alone. I truly and honestly believe that the game is trash right now and they have sucked nearly every scrap of agency out the game. I really enjoyed the game when I came back for a few months. Then they kept printing more and more and more mana cheat.
If you think playing 2 ramp spells then dropping Dungar is a skillful, fun, and interactive then enjoy the game. I won’t yuk your yum. But, I personally think that this style of design is 100% braindead and designed to hit the same dopamine as gambling.
EDIT - This is not the only game Blizzard has lost me as a customer either. I quit OW years ago and have not touched it since. I quit WoW a little over 2 years ago. Quit Diablo 4 less than a year after release. After quitting HS the only Blizz game I will be left playing is D2R. Which is the success of an old game.

While this may be true for you, there are multiple occasions where people have spent money in HS beyond their means and to their own detriment. So while purchases are not required, that doesn’t mean addicted people aren’t spending money here. Several long time posters from the past experienced issues related to impulsive spending in HS.
I get this, though, I do.
So this is true, for sure.
One may not spend excessively, but one may invest time that would be better used in service of more productive ends, thereby doing damage to relationships.
- It’s only “losing” time if you’re not having fun
- even if you are “losing time”, it’s still a sympthom of a larger underlying issue in your life (escapism, status quo, etc)
IMO, because of these 2, that marks the end of the similarity/analogy between HS and real gambling. For all I know, if I was a true gambling addict, ain’t no way I’d get hooked on HS → I just don’t feel the same thrill when I “recover lost time” and when I win back some of what I’ve lost xD
Other than that, sure, fine, I hope you find a better fit for your time. I’ll just be consciously losing mine and justifying it as doing something I like (which is much more than just a rationalization, I do believe I’m having fun + keeping my brain and competitive spirit active).
I can tell you one thing with 100% certainty, though. If I did feel like you, I wouldn’t be spamming threads about it and announcing my departure. I have never done it before and I don’t think me suddenly switching my priorities or simply moving from one obsession to another warrants it.
Especially when it’s highly probable I’ll be back some day.
Sorry to hear your dopamine banks are dry duke. I’ll admit the main appeal to me for the ladder nowadays isn’t that I feel like I’m losing time, I feel like I’m making the opponent lose time. But I’m still finding ways to amuse myself by making needlessly complicated decks for strats I saw and said “I could do that more successfully and much more optimized!” half out of spite and half out of wanting to prove that they were using it wrong. But really I’m just trying to make decks that make people remember the name. I want the first and last words outta their mouths from a match not to be “oh look another x shaman” I want them to say “WHAT THE HELL AM I FIGHTING?! What is this Shaman?!” That and I want my Lazulball skins definition to be accurate “Occasionally gives E.V.I.L advice”

I wish I had money for every player you have accused of this. The man says he is leaving because of what he sees as the ongoing decay of the game.
That isn’t “doomposting”. That is giving a clear and seemingly honest reaction to the direction the game has gone in.
And let’s be more clear: The game’s design space has gotten smaller with every expansion, thanks to choices that have stripped diversity from classes in order to create even more classes to sell packs from.
In that, the OP is totally accurate.
You should get some new slang.
Doomposting refers to complaining about something before We know what it will be.
That isn’t what this is.
To the OP: Speak your mind, and ignore adversity.
You seem to be relying on a bad definition from Genshin Impact subreddit. Not good.
This is doomposting:
The practice of continually commenting on Internet while magnifying disagreeable outcomes.
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/doomposting#:~:text=doomposting%20(uncountable),news%20while%20magnifying%20disagreeable%20outcomes.
Proofs this thrad is, in fact, a doompost:
- Continuation - here’s a few of OP’s recent threads:
- 7 days ago - Mana Cheat will Kill The Game → mana cheat WILL kill the game. That’s predicting doom and gloom, looking into the future - this is doompost even according to your definition.
- 6 days ago - Back to Druidstone → complaining about druid/balance team
- 22 days ago - Mana cheating has created lazy design → Mana cheating has created lazy design; more ranting about future doom because of bad design
- almost 2 months ago - Power Creep has Created worse Players → Power creep has created worse players. I mean, people suck, the game’s obviously dying, no?
- 9 days ago - Finally... My BSM Write Up → This is an example of a high quality post; not a part of the proof, just, it’s one drop of sunshine on a stormy ocean.
- Magnifying negative outcomes → kinda self-explainable, and doing so in 80% of their posts.
I mean, let’s just skip these tedious steps next time, shall we? We both know I don’t simply waste words for nothing.
Mind you, us who “defend” the game are constantly called “Blizzard shills” and faced with contempt simply because we actually enjoy what we’re doing with our time, instead of being hopelessly and permanently just so sorrowful and pessimistic.
TL;DR - sit down, champ. The good ol’ Duke got nothing on you - The amount and quality of doomposting is legendary and still unmatched.
