Elise (hero) finally available in shop for gold

See this news: https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/shop-update-october-22-2024/ — or just check out the shop for yourself if you’re interested.

Some people have apparently been looking forward to this for some time (for example: Will Elise Starseeker ever be available for purchase again?), including myself [1], [2], and if you’re one of them, you probably don’t want to miss this — who knows when, or if, another opportunity comes.

For example, I personally had been taking a complete break from HS for more than a month, possibly looking forward to an expensive — unless they change them — deck for returning players (the latest batch has been quite something: https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/free-new-returning-decks-6-loaner-decks-to-choose-from/), if nothing else, just in case it comes in handy later, with hardly anything fun for me to do in the game right now, and getting rid of some old Mercs habits while at it, I suppose, but this was enough for me to interrupt the break and spend some of my last gold reserves, saved for an opportunity like that.

Yes, I am so glad I had saved enough gold for her!

I don’t think I would have returned early to buy a hero portrait, if in another two months, I could get some Catch Up packs and a free deck, but your post made me look at what heroes are currently for sale for gold.

I rarely spend gold to buy a card back or a hero portrait. I recently spent 500 gold to buy an old card back for “strategic” reasons for eight of my F2P collections, which left me short on gold, so I had to pass on buying the mini-set for four of them.

A quick look in the shop, did tempt me to buy Sylvanas, ke’Thuzad and Elise, but I resisted the impulse.

Oh, they’re also giving those in addition to a loaner/free deck? I haven’t thought of that.

:grinning: That’s an interesting way to put it.

My personal ‘strategy’ in this regard is rather simplistic: I think it’s a good idea to spend gold (I mean, come on, it’s not even money that can be spent better elsewhere) on whatever brings you joy, first and foremost — that’s what the game is supposed to be for, not about what you ‘must’ buy or grind, what brings more abstract ‘value’ (I think that concept is subjective) or something like that.

Usually such news about the shop can be found on hearthstonetopdecks.com, for example (if you prefer some other source, by all means, suit yourself). The reason I’ve started this topic in particular is twofold: first, I understand she’s been rather popular and wanted for a long time, second, she hasn’t been available very often [1], unlike some other returning portraits, moreover, it’s apparently the first time F2P guys could get her — ever.

I began testing out both The New Player Experience and The Returning Player Experience last December by creating a new account with a collection on all three servers. I did the same thing with another new account in April, and again with a third new account in July.

On November 8th —after being dormant for 90 days, I will log into all three of those accounts, and for one of them, I will be able to access how well a new account can be developed by letting it go fallow three times.

The current resources on that account that was created last December:

USA 3000 gold and 51 packs
EU 3000 gold and 52 packs
Asia 4740 gold and 29 packs

I am gratefull for Secondwar Uther, wanted to get him for years now!!! But I am glad you have your joy as well. I purchased her too and also Kelthuzad for card backs. I think is is really strange, some older portraits are better for gold than the other ones which are on the paid reward tracks recently… Thats why I didn’t buy a tavern pas for PIP… I found all the cosmetics lame… they are good for kids maybe… but not for adult players.

Oh! That fellow has returned. I remember buying a bunch of portraits from the ‘Book of Heroes’ for gold — sometimes just because of a nostalgic soundtrack from WC3, if nothing else :grinning: , although the one for Uther is a bit ironic: it’s the new (at that point) Alliance theme added in TFT, when Uther was already gone. Anyway, it’s one of my favourite Paladin portraits, glad you got it, too!

I think I only passed on Valeera and Anduin, since I really didn’t really like or want the art, nor was the ‘feel’ anything special, and Garrosh, whom I didn’t like as a character at that point, and I wasn’t particularly impressed with the portrait either. As for Uther — I liked his adventure and thus wanted to commemorate it, liked the portrait itself, and there was also the soundtrack as a bonus :grinning: , so it was an easy pick for me back then.

Thanks, that makes two of us. :grinning:

But anyway, back to the point of Second War Uther’s previous availability:

https://hearthstone.wiki.gg/wiki/Second_War_Uther#Previous_availability

(also confirmed by some web searching, for example: https://www.startpage.com/sp/search?query=site:hearthstonetopdecks.com+'Second+War+Uther' , https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site:hearthstonetopdecks.com+'Second+War+Uther').

So while it’s not the first time this portrait has returned, being available for gold, it has indeed been a while since he dropped by.

By the way, 1500 gold for a portrait of that quality — custom frame, animations and ‘emotes’ plus a card back — is a good deal by HS standards, the ‘base’ price can be estimated at 1800 (think of Alleria, Magni, Medivh, Khadgar etc as normally available via the collection), and this kind of offer, which we see occasionally in the shop, is also a discount of sorts.

:grinning: I once wrote a lengthy post about it, but it got deleted. In short, I predicted dummies and nappies as a possible theme for some next expansion. :grinning: Perhaps I’ll post some excerpts from it below.

I’d like to point out one aspect in this game’s evolution over all these year (even Nathan was talking about it, too), namely maturity.

So, what was the game like in the beginning?

‘I have no time for games!’
‘Take heart, young one…’

And even if you take something more light-hearted than themes related to dying, taking care of children after you pass etc:

‘I can wait and fish all day!’

Come to think of it, you can’t say that all those… modern types with cultivated ADHD have this kind of patience (see, for instance, this post again, by the way… speaking of repetitions), so you don’t have cards like that anymore, but lemme get back to the point: all of this sounds quite mature to me. You can’t say that something like Naxx looked like sugary Disney cartoons either.

Then came Un’Goro,

But what about now? Look at the recent themes: ‘Pee-pee’ * , ‘ca-ca’, all those toys…

So, the question is: what next?

The theme of the latest expansion [that was PiP at that point] has already been revealed, and they supposedly have the next one planned as well, but if I were to hazard a guess and try to make a prediction, it’s only a matter of time before they release something featuring nappies, dummies and so on…
