CPU usage going crazy

Since today, whenever i open hearthstone cpu usage skyrockets to 90\95%
Up till yestarday it hovered around 20%\25% at max
Before this, i had to do a fresh battle.net install because the launcher window was completely black

My fan kicked on for the first time using this game since the patch also. I thought it was just me.

SAme, just watched it jump to nearly 95% cpu utlilization. This was right after I had to close and reopen the game because, as usual, it can’t handle the effect happening on screen and disconnects the game, forcing a close and reopen.

Have you all try lowering graphics in the game does this makes any difference? If no what does your GPU say? When my CPU go up that high with other games my GPU is high but when I update it will go down. You can also go to task manger make sure the game is selected right click “Hearthstone” then proceed to “Go to Details” click that.

Then make sure Hearthstone.exe is selected and right click it. Click on “Set Affriminty or close to that spelling” click it. A box window will appear showing numbers relating to the processors uncheck mark 6 and 7 to see if any difference. If no then uncheck 4 this normaly fixes the problem if no then test it out . This is a troubleshooting for processors taking up too much resoruces I do this with Starcraft 2 which works wonders on my laptop.

recommend this fix, if you got high cpu heat in HS, this will likely fix it;

possible fix

also works for other games built in Unity - as the issue is specific to some CPU’s, but ALL unity games

I just got the same problem lately. No game ever ate all my CPU and now HS is doing it.

Maybe, if we collect enough bananas and some monkey figure, the dves will finally start using their few functional brain cells, open ChatGPT and type something like: how monkey fix high cpu usage as dev. results could be expected around 2030.

saw same today; what to check with procexplorer what is wrong in bliz dev brains;
but when set afinity first to one core (2 treads) hearstone start lag more and auticrash;
pls bliz stop that bug and hack stat flood pls

yep, noticed that my game would occasionally start lagging my entire pc to a halt and then hearthstone would crash and everything would immediately go back to normal.

also had an issue where my game just randomly closed for no reason losing 50 rating.

I have a problem as well. CPU not running at 95% but it runs superhot when I play HS, hotter than when I play Diablo IV on max settings… what’s going on? I just started playing HS again

yes yes, not just me then!
when i launch it, it will randomly just run on 95-100% and the game will lag, but a single relaunch will fix it completely, makes no sense to me.

will mention it again, a solution that has worked for most people, i posted it earlier,
stop posting the same post without reading the thread xD

(below)

This is a Blizzard/HS issue. Massive memory leak or something, CPU usage gets maxed out on start up. I have to have the task manager pulled up when I launch to make sure it isn’t occurring before it hits the system too hard.

dude, I tried reading your “possible fix” and you’re talking like we’re all developers.

“was forcing DX11 as well as disabling “GFX+GFX Native Job”-type settings in config files, in any Unity-based game I have played, and it seems to have done the job” what the hell are you talking about??
what are you talking about “Unity-based game”?
People are still posting here because we don’t know what the hell you’re talking about

So, not sure if this is related to this topic, but sounds like it might.
This morning I decided I wanted to try Spell Mage. Twice in one hour my modem temporarily crashed on me, suspiciously as soon as I cast either Yogg in the Box or The Galactic Projection Orb. I can see my internet connection would go to No Internet Connection icon and I look over and see my modem is blinking as if it lost connection, and less than a minute after I shut Hearthstone down my modem goes green and my internet connection is restored. I am not on WiFi.

Hearthstone is a game built in the game engine “Unity”.
Many other games use the same engine, and have the same exact issues described, because it is specific to very specific hardware - when a game built in “Unity” is used with it, thus, the majority of players do NOT encounter this issue.
Therefore, the ways people, like myself, have found to fix the issues that applies to the exact same problem, in other games using “Unity” applies to Hearthstone as well, as I specified in that post.

However,
You are quoting me out of context there, and I specified ways that may help for your issue.
If you do not understand, then copy paste it into ChatGPT and have it explain it for you.

A lot of people already tried the tips and clearly found it helpful, you are the first to not understand it, or claim I am “talking like you are all developers” as I am not.
It is simple use of explorer.exe

People are posting here still, because of behaviour that is typical to forums; Reading the top post, and then adding their own input at the end, not reading the “thread”/posts inbetween the top and the bottom - even if the fix to their issue has already been explained there.

But more importantly, looking at your post history, your issue isnt related to this, its a connection thing, not a CPU issue, seeing as you posted about your issue already in another post, before posting your complaint here.

The people who had the issue I described a fix for - have so far seemingly had that fix work for them, as they actually had the issue themselves, you know, the one the fix is related to??

You dont have that issue - yet you are complaining about not understanding the fix???

Its like having a sick pet. And you decide, hey, lets take it to a CAR MECHANIC, and ask them to treat your pet. They cant, because they are a CAR MECHANIC, and you get upset.

not sure if my case related because issue not happen on start but after long time already play in game…

today hapen again so bliz you are bad;
and any fixwa must applay developers not simple users;

So, from what I’ve read, this bug only affects certain computer configurations, so let’s gather what those might be. That might also help the developers find a solution more quickly.

Since I’m also affected by this bug, I’ll just start:

Intel Core i7-7800X @ 3.50 GHz
GIGABYTE X299 Aorus Ultra Gaming Motherboard
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 TI Aorus Waterforce Xtreme Edition
64GB RAM
Win 11 Pro (with all updates)

As Always YMMV

I was having the CPU 100% problem.
I tried dumbing down the direct x by adding -force-d3d9 in the game settings.
It kept randomly hit 100%, then not do it for a random number of games, then do it again.

I found a post on reddit -

  1. Locate your Hearthstone settings: file option.txt in location *%LOCALAPPDATA%\Blizzard\Hearthstone*
  2. Add the following 2 lines (they’re most likely not there yet) at the bottom of the settings (you can replace 60 with any FPS cap you want):

targetframerate:i=60
vsync:b=False

I already had the targetframerate setting in mine, but not the vsync so I added it.

I have not had a 100% cpu usage event (knocks on wood) since I did so.

Will it help you?
Maybe, Maybe not.
I play Hearthstone, I’m not smart.
But it worked for me, and its better than nothing.

System Spec for the list -

Intel(R) Core™ i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
32 GB
Win 10
