Season 17 Solo Grift Top 10 Data

I assembled a summary of the top 10 solo seasonal greater rift clears. For the legendary gem calculation, I excluded esoteric that maxes at 100 and pain enhancer.

Conclusions about the bottom of the curve

Barbarians and monks are the weakest solo clear with average clears of 122 and 124.8, respectively. Crusaders and demon hunters have the lowest average legendary gem levels at 132.6 and 131 respectively.

Conclusion about the top of the curve

The top solo greater rift clears are for wizard and then necromancer with average clears of 134 and 131.4, respectively.

Peculiarities of the data

The #1 demon hunter has only played that class for 21 hours total in season. The #10 Witch Doctor has only played that class for 13 hours in the entire season. The top 10 barbarians are most loyal to their class while witch doctors are the least in terms of playtime per class.

The data spread

If Monks and barbs were buffed by about 5 greater rifts and wizards were brought back to the pack by 3 greater rifts, then all classes would be within 4 greater rifts rather than the current spread of 12 greater rifts.

Well this is obviously because these classes are not in the meta and have been built on the backs of meta characters on these players accounts.

It wouldn’t be possible to play them exclusively to gain enough paragon/gem levels to make the rank otherwise.

There are four meta classes (i.e. occupiers of 998 of the top 1000 spots on the 4 man seasonal leaderboard) .These are barbs, monks, necromancers, and wizards.

The solo wizards have the highest class playtime and paragon amongst these 4 classes. In terms of XP, wizards are 2X of barbarians.

Solo barbarian have the lowest class play time, paragon, and legendary gems** amongst these four meta classes. **This calculation excludes pain enhancer and esoteric gems that would artificially lower this value.

7 of 10 monks in the top 10 are characterized by having legendary gems where the minimum legendary gem level is 145. 3 of 10 monks have all max level gems. Only 4 of 10 barbs are characterized by minimum legendary gem level is 145 (esoteric gems were not considered for this as it maxes out at 100). 2 of 10 barbs have all max level gems.

You did a lot of data collecting to come to the conclusions we already know…

Assuming Wizard as the benchmark:

  • Necromancer needs 2x damage
  • Witch Doctor needs 2x damage
  • Demon Hunter needs 3x damage
  • Crusader needs 3x damage
  • Monk needs 4.5x damage
  • Barbarian needs 5x damage

Rough numbers obviously.

These shouldn’t be achieved by “quick fixes” because quick, lazy “fixes” will lead to other problems.

Mirco, thanks for posting this. It’s always helpful to keep info like this front and center to (hopefully) remind the devs what kind of buffs are needed.

Interesting comparison info … thanks for posting … seems that Rat runs and massive paragon group boosts are the only way to accumulate the power to get there, making the real “solo” tiers a bit skewed in their favor :wink:

You do know, if I were the developer, I would buff barbs and monks (and nerf wizards). By doing that everyone would be within 4 greater rifts rather than the current spread of 12. Sometimes it is easier to nerf an outlier than buff 6 classes.
