(Fixed?) 1.06 introduced sudden black loading screen during offline gameplay, HC characters killed

EDIT: This has been stated to be fixed in a patch 1.0.66578 (see General Discussion). :+1: :+1: :+1:

Description: on consoles and during offline gameplay a black loading screen suddenly appears, blocking visibility. The game still runs in the background and apparently can be played but only by ear.

This issue has seemingly appeared with the queue lines and has been reported and discussed in the console discussion here and here :face_with_monocle:. More recently multiple events fitting the description have also been reported here and here.

This is dead serious :coffin:.

As you might know most people who regularly play offline tend to play hardcore characters (no deaths caused by lag etc) and particularly in higher difficulties not seeing what’s happening in the game for even a couple of seconds can mean permanent loss of the character :skull_and_crossbones:.

In the latter discussion you will find that players are speculating the cause to be the queue, supposedly even when entering an offline session the queue runs in the background and when it reaches 0 the β€œblack loading screen of death” appears.

Kindly investigate.

Disconnect internet
Run the game and start playing offline
Reconnect to the internet
No more Black Screen of Death
These steps have to repeated each time you launch d2r

But this should not be this way and has to be fixed

My normal core character was somehow reverted from lvl 48 nightmare to lvl 39 normal from something similar. This is a pretty nasty bug.

Yes, when this issue happens game gave problems with saving current state of your character and it may result in corrupted save file which lead to permanently lost characted or it will somehow get previous save file from cloud server or there are previous state of your character somewhere on console storage(which there should be only one to prevent savescumming).
