I have mine off but I still avoid using profanity myself in game. Well, outside of guild chat with my friends at least. They don’t care. lol
I think complaining about getting silenced at a memorial is pretty tacky tbh.

This is the sad part, say something that people get offended by and it’s gg for you, especially when we live in an age where the masses search for stuff to be offended by.
I actually missed that it was on a RP server. If he asked in /s or /y, the silence was 100% deserved.

I don’t think he did anything wrong with what he believe from his heart,just some people are better at words than others in expression them.He did realize that shadowlands was a place of the dead and playing could be interpreted as such.
It seems like you were making a joke about a person who just died. As a general rule, that’s never acceptable.

it’s so embarrassing for the company at this point they do stuff like this to save a buck and the community suffers with silly repercussions for doing absolutely nothing wrong

I don’t see what the OP said as a joke. Honestly it read to me like someone that feels bad that someone is missing the expansion. That statement of “Too bad he won’t get to see shadowlands” In of itself isn’t really enough to constitute a joke or even an offensive statement. Which tbh tells me OP probably got reported for something else and didnt realize it.

i think it’s safe to say that if 20-50 random people find what you said to be stupid, it was probably stupid
it’s not a bad system until you run into a coordinated group of 20-50 people abusing it which likely never happens and would be overturned
I can’t really imagine what is going through people’s minds when they report stuff like this. If that was all the OP said then the silence should have been lifted; I thought this is why we have a Code of Conduct.
That’s terrible, what you said was barely offensive, in that I could see how someone might take offense but just barely. The fact that people report-bombed you instead of maybe, I don’t know, whispering you that they thought you were out of line perhaps? Seems like better ways to resolve things, I don’t like that the “community” can dictate what is “offensive.” That’s garbage.
Personally if something like that happened to me and the GM reacted the way he did, I would’ve probably unsubbed and told the GM I was doing so. Not that they care, but you never know.
I’ve never been silenced in this game but I’ve been silenced in chats for similarly baffling reasons. I permanently left those chats and don’t regret it. Bad mods are bad.

I don’t think it was necessarily what was said, it was the way it was said as well as the time/place. Intent is hard to read through text alone, so it’s not particularly hard to see where this could have gone wrong. Would I have reported them for it though? Probably not, because in my opinion they meant well.

You cracked a joke during a funeral / serious event and enough people were offended. You got your just desserts for trying to be funny.
