Logged in the morning, heard the bad news about Rekful, friend told me there’s a memorial going on for him in stormwind church so I fly down to attend. We both watched him back in old expacs.
Holy mother of lag so many people!
People are talking about him in the church and I said “If only he could have played shadowlands”.
Get dc/ed 30 seconds after saying that. Triggered mass report auto silence. Log back on silenced. Make ticket, GM investigates says its upheld and not an error.
I know its blizzards policy to not give evidence or logs for exactly what you were silenced for, but I know that was the line that caused it because its the only thing I said that day in game.
Made another ticket curious to how the process works more on blizzards end.
The 2nd GM told me something spooky.
“If the community deem it offensive it is offensive. Doesn’t matter what you said”
If that’s how it works you can most likely get silenced for saying things like “pigs can fly” If enough people report you.
Edit: Also the silence duration doubles each time. with no grace period, no reset date, nothing. You can be silenced for things you didn’t even mean to be offensive for months, years, decades. “working as intended”.
You should know that even comical relief isn’t permitted in this day and age. Just look at several comedians over the last few years that made the headlines.
That’s the system, unfortunately. With a game as large as WoW, you need an automated system to act as your frontline in order to avoid the massive labor cost of having people do it instead. If enough people report you, you get squelched. This is an across the board thing. Then it will be reviewed and further action taken if deemed necessary.
The thing is, a lot of servers have their own particulars when it comes to what is OK and what’s not.
And, to be completely honest, although it may not have been meant in an bad way at all, what you said was a bit questionable. The last thing anybody is thinking about is that he’s not going to be able to play the new expansion. I can see how some might have considered it trolling.
Welcome to life. People have to learn to accept the consequences of your actions. You’re actions seem to have upset a lot of people in the moment. Live and learn for the next time.
In what context did you say this? What was the current conversation? You might have actually offended people. Just because you don’t understand why doesn’t make it less offensive.
There is no possible context in which his statement could have been offensive. People just love to perceive things as offensive and twist them to become so. Personally I think the CS department needs to be retrained.
I think they might have struck a nerve with a few people with the news still fresh in their minds, but from the details we have it doesn’t sound like it was meant to be offensive. But I guess I could see how it could have been taken slightly out of context.
I do understand the general chat that reported the OP though. They don’t know who he is and what his personality is like and the atmosphere is already ran highly on emotions. Additionally, there may already have been others in chat that have been mocking there memorial prior to that.
