The wiki link and this list conflict on location of Herod, so is it Chicago or LA?

It’s in Chicago, I accidentally grabbed the wrong IP. Thanks for pointing it out, I’ve fixed it.

Chicago is eastern time? News to me

Nice, Australia is just listed as AUS Data-center LOL…you do know how large Australia is ?? or a less known fact - much as though our Country capital city is Sydney in NSW, our biggest telecommunications center is actually in Melbourne in Victoria.

Here, i’ll solve the lack of info for you - The OCEANIC ( which is Aus/NZ/SEA ) datacenter is in Blacktown, in NSW. It’s on a +10 GMT timezone.

There isn’t actually a data center on the east coast and I don’t recall there ever being one. :frowning:

The AUS data center is in Sydney. I just put AUS because it only has one location. If you’re in the country you don’t have an option for anything closer based on location.

Granted we may not have closer, but when you factor in how 95% of our traffic routs through Melbourne first ( no matter your destination or location ) and the server is in Blacktown, it can add to your ping to the extent playing on the US server might be parallel or near enough to with regard to pings.

The different infrastructure we have over here can make knowing the actual location a factor, just saying “AUS” is incredibly vague considering Sydney and Perth are separated by nearly 4000 kilometers.

I went ahead and changed it to reflect that it is in Sydney.

Thx

I’m sorry to be a pain, but we Aussies have had to deal with some epic sh*t from our ISP’s for 2 decades…knowing where in this vast country the server is can have a huge influence on realm choice.

I wouldn’t doubt it. I recall the hardships from many years back as the fight for an oceanic location was ongoing.

Even now your battlegroups/instance servers are located in LA, if I recall correctly. (for retail)

On that I have no clue, as i ditched my sub when Blizzard removed talent trees, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least…

It may still be something to keep in mind as Blizzard has said they plan on having xrealm BGs once that phase rolls around, for people playing on Oceanic realms.

Wait what…?

Yeah, from what little iv’e read on it, there will be a priority in grouping like with like, only as a last resort will it then ship us off to the US.

Either way, i’m not that phased as PvP was a side activity for me and i’m used to being MT in a 40 man raid with a ping of 250ms - 350ms, did my PvP the same. The fact I was able to play in the normal game environment the other day with a 51ms ping gives me hope.

I’m so lost right now. In the USA they teach us that the capital of Australia is Canberra.

Actually the IP addresses aren’t static and haven’t been since CRZ come in.

They’re chosen from a pool of IP addresses which makes a list of IP addresses inaccurate at the time of writing as they will change depending on when you connect to them. The IP address I get for a particular realm server will be different from the one you get.

The IP addresses are only useful in making an educated guess as to which data center a realm is in by comparing it to the official list

Technically it is, as it’s where our federal parliament is, and the state Canberra is in is called the ACT ( Australian capital territory ). Problem being most times we talk to foreigners, they have no clue what or where Canberra is. So call Sydney our unofficial country capital if you like.

In saying that I think you’d trouble finding an Aussie that would have a problem with just removing the ACT from the map entirely, and the politicians with it.

Correct, however the first half of the address normally stays static; comparing that to a retail addresses with a known location and cross referencing it based on ping (88ms vs 29ms) as well as knowing there are, currently, only two data centers - those educated guesses can be very reliable.

[edit:] to clarify what actually happened is I grabbed the IP for Bloodsail (the server I had checked right before) and marked it as Herod’s address by mistake.

Really? I thought they were in Equinix in Mascot…
