So I’ve thought a lot about this. I’m like you, I believe that these things should be earned. I’ve never bought a carry, never will. I’ll also never sell carries even though I think I could.
In all of my thinking I’ve come up with really only 2 reasons.
- people that want to pretend they’re good to tear down other players and feel good about themselves because they can’t do the content.
- People with limited time that want a full group on demand without looking for one, or relying on friends to be online. It’s often tricky to coordinate a group of people. Someone with plenty of spending cash has incentive to skip all that work to play with people guaranteed to succeed.
That’s pretty much it. Otherwise I have no clue, perhaps someone who buys these would be willing to provide feedback. I’ve only ever known 1 person who bought carries, and for them it was because a specific piece never dropped for them in guild runs. I disagree with it, but that’s what they did.
Why does this bother you? If someone wants to farm gold and get carried through content that they would normally not get to do, that is their business.
Yeah, right. They’re farming that gold and not just buying tokens to “pay to win” their way through.
I’ve chatted with a few of the carry groups - it’s hideously expensive to pay for these “services” - there’s no way anyone is legit farming the gold to pay for significant carries.
I’m just curious what you mean by this. If you buy a carry in M+, its so you don’t have to waste your time doing an M+ because you hate it? Can’t you just go do a raid or BG or Arena instead?
This is pretty much my thinking as well. The only other kind of carry I can think of is for people not really interested in high-rated PVP but want a specific transmog which only unlocks at high ratings.
If they just think it looks cool and aren’t really looking to false flex I don’t see a problem with this (although of course it would be impossible to know which of those reasons is the reason for wanting the carry).

Correct, it means someone doesn’t have to know anything and can basically AFK for the gear they need. You don’t need to “waste time” to know the stupid affixes, the dumb routes, the boss mechanics since people don’t care. Since they hate M+ and only NEED the gear hidden behind it.
I think M+ is the worst thing I can do with my time but… it has gear players need, so that is the conundrum. This is why M+ and the Great Vault is such a Toxic system. People hate it and are forced to do it or just unsub. Which most people did actually do.
Hate Raiding, Don’t get me wrong don’t mind doing LFR seeing the raid maybe once but that is it. As for Arena that is currently at it’s worst state which is why there are so many boost going on right now. It’s best to avoid these activities.
As for BG the reason why the BG community is so upset because we don’t have competitive gear. You get smashed by Raiders, M+ and Arena. Which is why they pay for boost or leave. The best gear in PvP should just come from PvP quest and BGs where you take your conquest and buy BiS PvP gear. You know like you used to be able too. Think we all miss WoD gearing where you could fully gear in a week in Ashran.
M+ and Arena shouldn’t reward any gear. It should be only for Titles, Mounts and Cosmetics.
So it seems you don’t like M+.
It seems you also don’t like raiding.
And it seems you do not enjoy PVP in it’s current state.
What do you enjoy doing in this game? Not trying to troll or anything I’m really just wondering.
I see in your mind the guy you replied to was wrong so even though you were wrong in what you stated, you are all of a sudden right.
Also, he really wasn’t wrong if people were doing heroic raiding.
Most people don’t like M+ it’s a terrible repeat activity that hasn’t done anything good for the game.

Well yea they really messed up PvP this expansion probably the worst of ANY expansion. Well Legion Templates was the worst.
Nothing at the current time, nothing is enjoyable because you have to suffer for months before the fun starts. Which is why so many people left they quit because there are too many chores in the way of the fun.
However if I were to pay for carries and get the M+ Raid gear I need for PvP then maybe I would have some fun. This game is purposely made really badly so people have to pay for it to be good.
SL is by far the worst expansion and this is why Boosting is at it’s highest. People are paying to skip the dreadful painful experiences in hopes of being able to have fun.
Again this is common sense and really didn’t think a thread needed to be made to explain why people NEED to be carried if they play this game.
To also be clear my end game is PvP I do enjoy BGs, WPvP and in the last season of BFA I competed at 2600+ MMR RBGs. However I’m not queing RBGs or Arena in 9.1. No thanks to that mess. Blizz needs to do better. Overall the game is just a dumpstefire so players pay for carries around it or uninstall because SL is that bad.
Some folks take achievement points seriously. It’s a catalog for them to fill to completion.
It bothers me because it directly effects my ability to find groups because A) the search tool is overrun, meaning I need to look harder to find things and B) every one of those players doing carries or buying carries is taken out of the market when they would otherwise be searching with me. This makes getting tanks, healers and even dps at times take longer.
Honest question. If you hate m+ and raiding, then why do you need the gear? If pvp gear scales with level, and you aren’t doing the more difficult content, why aren’t you content just having a lower ilvl. It can’t possibly help in the farming of mogs or mounts by any significant margin from what I see. I’m not trying to be overly critical, genuinely curious because I gear in those areas to do that content. I clear normal raid so I can do heroic, and push that into mythic if I’m lucky. I do m+ to help beyond that to get my ksm and finish off heroic/mythic. I don’t pvp. Once I get 1 toon fully geared, I .over on to an alt and repeat.
These days being carried is sometimes the only guarantee that you’ll finish a run. lol
I bought one on my mage at some point just so I could get the weekly chest. Got my weekly chest and then realized that this was no way to play the game. So I left to play something else with a better reward structure while WoW figures their game out.
Only time I ever did it though.
I don’t know about that, but I make about 150k gold per week just doing the daily stuff. So someone could be farming gold. 
I don’t understand this question. This is a gear based game. The reason I log in is to get BiS gear just like anyone else. In the past it was far easier to acquire BiS gear so I could make the builds I want and enjoy the game. Now it’s next to impossible to make a lot of the builds I want to theorycraft or enjoy.
It drives me crazy when people think that M+ and Raiding is the center focus of this game.
Oddly in BFA it was easier for me to get BiS and make some builds to enjoy and push to the furthest limits. SL is just a new level of pain though. The fun and game starts when I get BiS and complete a build, it’s when I can enjoy myself. The fun in completing something has been greatly lost in modern WoW.
Why do I need gear is such a stupid question honestly. It’s because this is a gear based game and want to complete my character and build.

Don’t even get me started on the terrible PvP gear situation. It’s trash and the PvP vendor is also trash. The gearing in PvP also the worst of any expansion. The Devs are seriously detached from the players.
It really shouldn’t be impossible to Min/Max and create BiS builds in this game. Which is why I have been mostly unsubbed in SL. Why bother with the way it is.

It’s like the jimmy johns guy paying to hunt exotic game. They can’t do it themselves so they take the easy way and pay people to do it cause they’re lazy. I’m with you, earn it yourself it makes it that much sweeter in the end.
