or they could make the gear work like glyphs. Meaning you can apply gear to specific mounts in your mount journal.
I’d be fine with that, except we still run into the issue of “what happens when they decide not to use this system next expansion?” It still takes away the base ability of a mount.
I dont think they fully thought this through
No, they really didn’t. I think all they saw was “we don’t want people using the strider, but we can’t take it off of them completely-- yet.”
They didn’t - T&E’s last video told us this happens on various fronts.
They’re human - so they won’t be perfect. But this is where feedback becomes useful and they can make adjustments; like they did with the CoT portal.
I foresee that day coming.
You didn’t answer my question, if there’s no difference why does it matter? They probably want as few exceptions to the system as possible.
Like, if instead of a piece of equipment, Blizz had announced that all mounts except for the Sky Golem can walk on water, would you feel the same way?
There is absolutely no point in removing the Water Strider’s ability unless they have some strange plan down the road for us that is not readily available. They are not touching the herbing mount so there should be no reason why they have to bother the Water Strider.
That being said, if the end goal of this whole new mount equipment thing is to eventually give us a flight equipment that allows our ground mounts to fly… I am sold and I do not care if they burn the Water Strider to the ground lol.
That would work except for majority of the first year of a new expansion while flight is not available. What do you do then? You either pay to change to another ability and then back when flight is available, or you just deal with not having any ability for 6-9 months. That would be your big decision at that point and it could be expensive.
True but depending on the cost it could be a nonissue. I have not seen a price yet. But I get what you mean.
Also it’s according to how many alts you play… they can add up, too.
“Like, if instead of a piece of equipment, Blizz had announced that all mounts except for the Sky Golem can walk on water, would you feel the same way?”
I must admit this stumped me for a minute. There is a difference between this and what is being proposed though. With what you said in this quote, they would be taking away the uniqueness of the strider but it would still function the same way.
With what they are proposing they would be taking away the uniqueness and functionality of the strider unless you use the equipment. honestly this wouldnt be a problem if water walking was the only piece of equipment, but it isnt.
So they are taking something I already have away and giving me the option to have it back, but then if want to use the parachute on my other mounts my strider wont work. Just exclude the strider like the golem and im fine.
So what’s next? If the Sandstone Drake is being used to much will people demand that it be changed in some way?
“I don’t like everyone using item X! Change it!!” – People who don’t have item x.
I want to be clear that I think this is a good thing. Uniqueness is fine until it makes everything else objectively worse.
Ok, so the complaint is that they’re adding other options, and that if it was just water-walking this change would be fine? The proposed system is literally only adding player choice on top of that. This whole saga can basically be summed up as:
Blizzard: Hey, you currently only have water-walking. What if you could choose between water-walking and other things?
Sandstone has never been used at the same rate the current water strider is, or will be.
I find it sad that almost everything the current blizzard dev team does anymore I have to look at with such a critical eye… But when you’ve screwed over your player base as many times as they have, how can you not?
That’s been my experience as well. There’s 3 mounts in the game: Strider, Golem, Mammoth.
Nobody RIDES the Mammoth, but it’s everywhere. I do it myself to sell trash.
Now there is no special incentive to use the Strider. Now you use any mount for water walking. And make no mistake, the other options are not awful, but they’re far lower in utility than water walking.
So the result is that we’ll get to see a much wider variety of mounts out in the world. Not a bad thing IMHO.
Yep… I just call it Corrupt a Wish… Because you wish for something, but you’re not explicit down to the nth degree on it… but you won’t get what you thought you wanted… “You think you do but you don’t” ring any bells.
What’s the problem?
I’ll tell you what the problem is. The problem is people who don’t like the Water Strider assuming that everyone automatically agrees with them, and that as such, taking my mount is no biggie. THAT is the problem. You don’t like it? Fine. Don’t use the bloody thing. But I do like it, which is why I earned the damn thing in the first place.
