If I want to mount and fly - I can’t use a water strider.
If I want to use a mount that looks cool - I shouldn’t use a water strider.
If I want to mount and pick herbs - I wouldn’t use a water strider.
If I want to mount and transport friends - I can’t use a water strider.
If I want to mount instantly (as a druid) - I can’t use a water strider.
If I want to mount and repair - I can’t use a water strider.
If I want to mount and transmog - I can’t use a water strider.
If I want to mount and use the AH - I can’t use a water strider.
With the new equipment system I’ll have even more reasons to use other non-strider mounts.
Having the strider keep it’s ability, and not benefit from the mount equipment does not increase the amount of times I would use the strider; and I already use many other mounts aside from the strider.
So having the water walking ability stay on the water strider won’t make it be used “too much”. The new equipment on other mounts will decrease the amount of times I use the strider in total.
What’s the problem with this being how the strider is handled? - which btw, makes it consistent with how the Sky Golem is being used.
I mean, who cares if it was? I don’t see the big deal. Blizzard gave us a useful thing and we used it. And if it really was a big deal to Blizzard for some reason, a better option would be to add other water walking mounts to the game to offer variety that way. Not take away functionality from the couple of mounts that we currently have with that ability.
I wasn’t asking of you specifically. More asking rhetorically or in the hopes that someone can explain Blizzard’s rationale since I don’t get it. FWIW, I don’t use my water strider all that much. If I have water to cross, I hop on it and as soon as I’m on the other side, I switch to the mount I prefer for that character.
When I farm herbs - I use my sky golem.
When I fly around old content I always use my favorite flying mounts.
When I’m going around in most places in new content, I use my blood seeker or bear as a ground mount.
When I need the utility of the repair/transmog/ah mounts - i HAVE to use those.
I hate the way the strider looks - so I use it as little as possible.
The only times I use it are if I’m in Nazmir - and rarely since I usually only go there to run Underrot - or for the first part of Tol’Dagor.
I was really surprised to even hear that this was a concern in the first place - like I said, the Strider looks ugly, and a lot of guildees and friends i know all feel the same.
If you can avoid it for most things you do - I don’t know why you wouldn’t pick ANY OTHER mount you have at your disposal.
Whenever I attempt to explain what I feel is Blizzards rationale, I get “white knight” and “shill” thrown at me. I am not saying you do this. But I am trying to make a disclaimer.
This is what I am willing to bet their rationale is:
Too many people use the water strider, making non water walking mounts useless. I am sure records can be found of players complaining about this issue. ( I am not saying these records would constitute anything worthwhile numerically )
So in their eyes, they are trying to come up with a system where a larger variety of mounts are used more often. And probably using the “feedback” angle.
Many zones in BFA have rivers/streams/lakes spread out all around. I use my water walking mount as my primary mount so I dont have to stop. Dismount. Remount. When I see water. I just keep going.
The only time I use a different mount for transportation, its when I am herbing. its just too inefficient otherwise.
And once again. I am not saying this bothers me. I am not saying this is an issue.
But I have zero gameplay reason to ever not use the water strider mount on this toon in BFA content if I am not herbing.
The Mog mounts aren’t even in the equation, as you pop those, change your mog, then dismount. Using it for 20 seconds to update your mog isn’t worth mentioning in the grand scheme of things, or the context this is being mentioned in.
So once again. Before anyone (not you specifically) bites my head off. I am not supporting this decision. I am not really against it either. I just don’t really care until I have more information about it from the PTR.
I’m explaining how and why I was pretending; just like others have noted that they use the mount as little as possible as well and make use of many other mounts.
And I get you use the mount as little as possible. But in the grand scheme of things if I see someone out in the open world I am legit surprised if they aren’t using one of two mounts.
Well multiple people, including myself, have explained to you how and why they use various other mounts way more than the strider.
While it may be surprising to you - it’s not unusual. Which is why I scratch my head when I hear “Blizzard thinks we use the strider too much” - really??? That thing is ugly, pretty much anyone I know avoids using it at all costs and uses a better looking one.
