URGENT: Changes Needed to Address Subscription Decline Ahead of MoP Launch

Hello everyone,

As we approach the release of Mists of Pandaria, it’s crucial to address several key issues that, if resolved now, could significantly curb subscription decline and enhance the overall player experience. Below, I’ve outlined a series of mandatory changes that a large portion of the community is in dire need of.

1. Enable Cross-Realm LFG

The Looking for Group tool must be cross-realm enabled. This change would improve the game’s overall health by allowing players to connect seamlessly, regardless of their realm’s population, faction imbalance, or type (PvE, PvP, RP-PvP, etc.). Cross-realm LFG would foster a more inclusive and dynamic community, ensuring that players can always find groups for content without being hindered by their server’s limitations.

2. PvP Server Imbalance

Currently, PvP servers are effectively functioning as PvE servers due to severe faction imbalances. With MoP on the horizon, many returning players will find themselves stranded on PvP realms with skewed ratios (e.g., 95:5). This imbalance will have a significant negative impact, especially since MoP’s core design revolves around World PvP in zones like the Isle of Thunder and Timeless Isle.

To resolve this, I propose consolidating PvP servers into a single, balanced PvP server. Alternatively, implementing a faction transfer process that incentivizes balance could work, but only if limited to one PvP server. WPvP is a driving force behind Rated PvP (Arenas and Rated Battlegrounds), and addressing this issue is critical to maintaining a vibrant PvP ecosystem.

3. Extend Each Phase of MoP

The content in MoP is rich and diverse, offering players a wide range of activities to engage with. To maximize player investment, each phase of MoP should be extended beyond what we saw in Cataclysm. For example, the Timeless Isle phase is essentially a massive, dynamic battleground filled with engaging events that never lose their appeal—provided the server has a balanced faction population. Extending these phases will allow players to fully immerse themselves in the content and maintain long-term interest.

4. Introduce the Joyous Journey Buff in Later Phases

During the latter half of each extended MoP phase, the Joyous Journey buff should be permanently reintroduced for the remainder of that phase. This buff would encourage players to level alternate characters quickly and engage in the gearing process, whether for PvE, PvP, or both. It’s a simple yet effective way to keep players invested and active throughout the expansion and it’s longer phases.

5. Penalize Abuse of the Dungeon Kick Feature

The dungeon kick feature is frequently abused, creating a negative experience for many players. Implementing a penalty system for those who misuse this feature would help deter such behavior without discouraging participation in PvE content. There are already numerous discussions on how to implement this safely, and it’s a change that would greatly improve the dungeon experience for everyone.

6. Reintroduce Titles for 2v2 and 5v5 Arena Ladders

Removing titles from the 2v2 and 5v5 arena ladders was a misstep that primarily catered to a small, hardcore audience. Reintroducing these titles would incentivize more players to participate in these brackets, taking them more seriously and adding longevity to the Rated Arena scene. While 3v3 remains the pinnacle of competitive arena play, 2v2 is far more accessible and easier to organize. This change would breathe renewed life into the arena community.

7. Increase Conquest Points for Losing Rated Battlegrounds

RBGs are a cornerstone of competitive PvP, but they can be difficult to organize due to the need for 10 total players and the potential for long queue times. Additionally, low MMR teams often face off against significantly higher MMR teams, leading to discouraging losses. To mitigate this, I suggest increasing only Conquest Points awarded for losing an RBG. This change would make the mode more rewarding and accessible, encouraging more players to participate.

8. Avoid Band-Aid Fixes for Random Battlegrounds

I recall there being some discussion about adding rewards like boxes or bags for queuing in Random Battlegrounds. While this might seem like a quick fix, it would only mask deeper issues that need addressing, such as faction imbalance and queue times. Instead, focus on resolving the root causes of these problems to create a more engaging and balanced PvP experience.

Closing Thoughts
Mists of Pandaria holds a special place in my heart as one of the most enjoyable expansions in WoW history, thanks to its class balance, engaging WPvP zones, fun raids, and vibrant Rated PvP scene. However, the issues outlined above have persisted since MoP and continue to affect the Classic versions of the game today (aside from Nightslayer - Classic Era Refresh). By addressing these concerns, we can ensure that the return to MoP is even more enjoyable and successful than before.

This is an open discussion, and I welcome your thoughts and feedback. Let’s work together to make this era of WoW the best it can be!

Cheers!

Edit: These points, gathered from months of discussions on the Cataclysm forums, reflect key changes that a significant portion of the player base strongly agrees must be implemented.

this is a player driven issue, the only thing blizzard could do is piss off a lot of players by forcing server mergers of all the pvp realms.

this is already a thing. JJ gets added when they announce a new phase and goes until the phase gets added

blizzard can’t even be bothered to figure out whose a bot and who isn’t, even though it’s extremely obvious all the fly hacking mages running back and forth between a town and dungeon in a straight line are bots, they aren’t going to take the time to figure out whether the person who kicked 5 people today is doing it maliciously or just got really bad luck

I’m getting really tired of forum posts that look like they were written by AI.

It’s fine for people to give opinions, but there’s no need for URGENT and “these things need to happen”. It just makes me tune out.

Eh i think this is on blizzard, servers started off balanced but blizzard launched way to many servers, which is why they didnt do it again for Fresh.

Having people go to 20 different servers then offer paid xfers it just makes sense people xferd to servers slightly in their favor which was a massive snowballing effect.

jj should just always be active.

Last time Blizzard tried to enforce faction balance on PvP servers everyone threw a tantrum over not being able to play on the server they wanted

You can have one or the other, not both

The big issue is that when servers started dying they did nothing to mitigate it (like offer free xfers), so when people had to move they were like “well i don’t wanna do this again, what’s the largest server (of our faction) we can go to”.

Probably the ONLY TIME this didn’t hold true, they offered free xfers onto eranikus to deal with faerlina’s/bene’s queue issues, and then when eranikus was dying they offered free xfers back.

I ate a paid xfer off earthfury to escape queues after they ruined the server by giving incendius players free xfers (earthfury was 50/50 bro, wtf were they thinking?), and then had to eat another to escape smolderweb because i spent 4 hours trying to do 1 heroic in tbc.

I would urge you to take a look into the Classic Refresh server Nightslayer. Blizzard has implemented a faction balance system and the community there is thriving on a consistent rate and that is what we need for MoP. It’s almost like you did not read my post into why this was important, but continue…

Not entirely true. My point, if you read it correctly, was to keep Joyous Journey implemented throughout the remainder of the phase. Again, it seems like you did not take the time to fully read my points, but continue…

…and you’re saying that Blizzard should do nothing? From what I have gathered on the forums over the course of over a month, Blizzard is keeping a close eye on the forums to see what people expect for MoP.

Have a nice day.

EDIT: responding to one more post

I am on Grobb, but the issue we are facing is a significant decline in server health. This has everything to do with other servers having a much healthier community, economy, etc.

Please take a look at this forum I made sometime ago about why consolidating the PvP servers was the best solution long-term for a PvP servers health.

i just dont think that cata, mop, and the expansions that have enough interest

not to mention the game has multiple modes now, fresh, era, sod, retail, and cata

and a lot of ppl kind of ended their classic journey after wrath. the drop off was noticeable going into cata. and a lot are kinda just sticking around cause they’ve invested so much into their 2019 chars and they figure eh whatever. fresh existing doesnt help as well

cata/mop are just obvious cash grabs, they’ve done very little so far on tons of cata bugs. the only reason they’re launching these is because its low effort, costs them essentially no dev time, and they can sell you character services and packs. mop will be the same way, watch. its unfortunate how greedy blizz is and how blatantly obvious they are treating these expansions.

I completely disagree. The same thing happened in Cata back then and MoP revived the game. The same will happen again. This post is to address the major concerns we faced during those times.

And to mainly appease their retailers since that’s their pet demographic; and that’s who’s mainly playing this new classic-progression model.

Cata had more subs than MoP.

Or warmode. which solved this issue. It had the 5% show up on the 95%'s of the original wow, now retail.

PVp’ers still rant they don’t turn it on. No crap, who would turn on pvp like that. Warmode off, play the illidan alliance char for the night. Win win.

Yes

You can’t

Just stick to the original schedule which is 6-7 months except SoO.

Sure why not but they are already doing that

No

Can’t care less. Who even plays arena in classic

Or simply win more

Yes

None of your points are major concerns. This is just your personal list of things that you want to be changed. You want faster levelling and more pvp, which is fine, but PvP is niche and not major.

Some major concerns e faced during those times were balancing and Legendary Cloak catchup

i disagree with that. people who love retail have very little reason to play cata/Mop and beyond. The only interest in those expacs from retail ppl are from people who missed those expansions entirely and want to try them. i have a huge friends list and the classic players are still on cata (altho much less of them compared to wrath and earlier) and the retailers are still retailing

Mop did not revive the game, it started with the numbers cata had at 8.5 million and dropped to 7 million at the end, by the numbers cata was more popular than mop

So much love for Cata and MoP, you’d think I’d be seeing Cata/MoP Andys fighting for an era server.

Something ain’t mixing the koolaid there.

Just out of a kind of morbid curiosity I’m waiting to see if my servers pop moves at all when MoP arrives. I mean the entire point obviously was progression servers like EQ/EQ2 has. Since that’s where Holly came from…

Cata was where people started to feel they were just repeating the same thing over and over for false sense of achievement. Little can be done to address that stagnancy. I will wait for BfA.
