you know, looking over teh exchange rate history.
the AUD has been reasonably stable at 0.70 since the WoW was released.
its peaked over far more often than peaked under.
the biggest drop was in march, during the height of the pandemic.

You’re getting ripped off is what you are.
Month to month is still over 20 USD.
Posted this in another thread, but relevant here:
The exchange rate is higher today than the same time last year. Sure it fluctuates like any exchange rate, but it has generally sat within the 70-75 range for the past 5 years, with the exception of the drop in March which it recovered from.
Exchange rates:
11 Nov 2020: 0.73
11 Nov 2019: 0.68
11 Nov 2018: 0.72
11 Nov 2017: 0.75
11 Nov 2016: 0.74
11 Nov 2015: 0.70
Don’t get me wrong I think that they should care about people enjoying their product and be mindful of the minority of users having the best user experience. I just don’t think they will care in this case but will be overwhelmingly happy to be wrong! This treatment is a result of the way the world works at the moment only real way to change it is gov policy imo. Companies only care about profit unfortunately
Thanks for pointing that out.
yeah outside of the height of the pandemic the exchange rate hasnt varied much at all over the last few years.
and its a bit late to react to the drop in march
so im rather curious as to what …
…global and regional market conditions has changed that only affect australia, considering our dollar is where it has normally sat for the last 5 years
@Bornakk you would have drawn a lot less ire from the player-base if you had pointed out in your post that this pricing adjustment puts us in-line with the rest of the world, including New Zealand; your post made it seem to me like we would end up paying more than players in New Zealand and the USA, which is apparently not the case.
So what they really want here, is for all the Australians to quit. So they can close down the data centres here.
Friendly reminder australian exchange rates have barely moved in the last 4 years. This is the worst possible time to price hike Australian people in living memory.
Honestly I did not know that we had a comparatively cheap sub price until today , assumed everywhere paid a price point near the US I forget when they swapped to localized payments but did it occur when AUD was near parity? Finally some number cruncher noticed that we where getting a good deal
probably.
but i kinda wish they’d have had the decency to address OCE issues like WM basing off NA and night/day cycle BEFORE they hiked up the price =/
i probly couldve accepted it better
Are we to pretend you “just forgot” to adjust the price down when the AUD was nearing parity or better (i.e. 2006 - 2018) and you charged us ~30% more?
If it mattes that much charge in USD, it would be fair and logical for both parties - I don’t think many people are still using gamecards every 60 days.
As it stands however, disgusting act.
This is appalling. Speaking with my money and cancelled my sub. Might give my money to a new start up. Perhaps see if I can support Dreamhaven or Frost Giant.
Yeah another thing I honestly didn’t know about OCE servers are all these issues, would be good if they could fix em maybe I’m just use to it as I started on US servers and got acclimatized
Thanks for making the decision to quit easier Activision Blizzard.
I think Shadowlands will be my last expansion and once the 6 month sub I just purchase ends i’ll probably move on to greener pastures. I can’t support the constant nickel and dime’ing of the ‘customer’.
It’s been fun, but I guess all things come to an end eventually.
So after some investigation into Digital Service Taxation i have discovered some interesting things.

Make what you will of it. If you think this will only effect Australia you might be in for a surprise.
Edit - fixed links.
Broken promise from Blizzard
so a number of years ago funny thing happened. The Australian Doller was way in front of the USA dollar . Funny right . so i remember emailing bliz asking whey the usd was removed from the aussie side of things and asked why … the reply was along the lines of … no we dont use other country’s currency’s as price fix points … yet here we are the aussie dollars taken a dive and they push our prices up … i smell a load of BS and wont be renewing my sub on this point
I’ve played on and off since Vanilla release. I was playing on adsl with a 300 ish latency. Now I play with 13. Considering a lot of us back in the day we’re paying more than this with a sub and a lowerping sub to get our latency to around 180 I am not going to shriek too much about the price rise.
I would rather a price rise than jeopardise losing our local servers. Remember when SWTOR had local servers and shut them down again due to cost? Stuff that.
I will add it’s a shame the only time we tend to see a blue in here is for this sort of stuff. I hope the extra money also provides us with a little more support.
Cancelled. Thanks for the reminder.
