It’s nice to see these updates to the costs, but losing the flexibility of tmogging items is a frustrating issue to deal with as a roleplayer and performer. I hope that the increase in outfit slots and price reduction is reasonable towards this end for the players that engage with transmog the most. I’m also leaving my original feedback here with the hopes that more roleplayers, campaign dms and performers both see and contribute their own feedback beyond the price tag issues.
edit: Not the biggest issue, but please also give us a way to toggle the spin and sparkles off for swapping outfits. It’s great to incorporate for some events and performances, but won’t fit every situation and I worry that more lag intensive rp events could make this difficult to account for.
I’d hope these prices are mistakes, otherwise this is just nutty and out of touch.
Why should it go from 600-1k to transmog a set on live, to around 5k to tmog all slots? The former was already egregious to people because transmog and repair costs were scaling with item ilvl. The latter is tone deaf by putting a flat, inflated cost on each slot, and removing any choice to still use the old system. I can’t understate how many people I know that were excited for these changes, expecting things would be more affordable, and to then be hit with the current beta prices and issues.
Even with two free outfit slots, this is awful for the roleplay community and too rigid of a system.
Running a story campaign with a group, and you’re playing an npc/villain for it? Expect to pay 5k+ to save an npc/villain set to use.
Doing a performance/act and need to change outfits? Same deal, including making space by buying more slots or saving over an existing slot.
I can make sets like these with items on live for less, and I also don’t need to update them for as long as I have the items, so why should this system inflate that price by over double between the slot and outfit slot save tax, and then also kill the option to transmog by item?
Rigidity examples:
On live, if I roleplay a fisherman catching a fish, I can be silly and immersive by having a fishing pole weapon, and any of the fish weapons/OH tmogged to a weapon to switch to and show I’ve caught a fish in character. Swap the items into the slot. Done.
On beta, I have to get around the system in different ways.
Option 1: Have a set that shows my equipped item for my weapon slot, and have both a fishing pole weapon (easy), and one of the fish weapons to swap to.
Option 2: Don’t have the fish item in your bags, but in your collections? Make an outfit set with your fishing pole equipped and equipment slot visible. Make the same outfit set but with the fish mogged over the weapon slot. This will currently run you about 600 gold. You’ll also do a spin and sparkle when you change outfits, which is nice and cute for some things. But immersion breaking for others. No way to toggle that off currently.
Option 3: Outfits can be completely toggled off to show your equipped gear. You can make a case use for this, but I didn’t get to check this quite yet.
This can be applied to multiple situations, and is exacerbated by the current pricing. Now, I doubt that the pricing will stay as it is, given that freshly new toons also have the flat 4-5k gold cost regardless of level. However, losing the option to transmog by item for the sake of transmogging by item slot is a ridiculous mistake. I hope more roleplayers provide feedback on this before it goes live.
