Transmog Beta Updates - November 25

Hello! I’ve got some quick updates on the development and design of the new Transmog features.

We’re also continuing to adjust pricing, including reductions to the cost to set outfits.

  • We’re planning to reduce the cost to save a full outfit by about 60%.
  • We will significantly reduce the cost to unlock slots.
    • As in the current public Beta, the unlock cost of outfit slots will increase depending on how many you have already unlocked.
    • The overall cost to unlock outfit slots will be reduced by about 80%.
  • We’re planning to increase the total number of outfit slots available, from 20 to 50.
    • We’ve seen a lot of feedback from players who feel that they need the extra flexibility of a lot of slots.

We expect most or all of the pricing updates to come with the next Beta build, currently expected to arrive on December 3. The warband-wide update will hit the Beta at a later date.

As always, thank you very much for your feedback!

This is why immediate and loud feedback is important.

To all the “will you stop crying” crowd:

Ya, the feedback was received and acted on, that was the point.

Cynicism aside, the new system is pretty great in terms of UI and functionality.

edit: I cant math. This is great.

THANK YOU! This is such an amazing new system you’ve developed and now with these changes, I can’t wait to enjoy using it!

Has the amount of gold drops gone up though? 3,000 gold for a full transmog is still laughable enough I rolled my eyes so hard I can see my own brain.

Excellent, leaves it at about just under 2k per outfit.

So from 800k to 160k total, and from 20 to 50, makes it from an average of 40k per slot to about 3k per slot

So total cost, from what you’ve said, is 160k for full slots + 2k per slot * 50 = 260k gold for full slots and full outfits

Absolutely wonderful change

Works for me and I love this feature and the way you’ve changed things from how it is in TWW to now. Very cool to have slots for so many different looks and now cheaper!

Good changes imo.

edit: I cant math, its like 2k. Very reasonable all things considered.

Huge wins.

Personally I think each slot should be capped at 100 gold to save a transmog to that slot at max level to save so we won’t have this issue come up when we get more levels etc. So at max you spend 1000 gold (1100 if you use a off-hand) to save a full outfit.

So from 800k to 160k to Unlock 20 slots Warbound.

Roughly 5,100 to 1,900g to edit slots.

MUCH better. This is a win

Dec 3rd will be very telling

Will wait to see how it looks when it’s pushed into beta but…promising.

It’s nice to see these updates to the costs, but losing the flexibility of tmogging items is a frustrating issue to deal with as a roleplayer and performer. I hope that the increase in outfit slots and price reduction is reasonable towards this end for the players that engage with transmog the most. I’m also leaving my original feedback here with the hopes that more roleplayers, campaign dms and performers both see and contribute their own feedback beyond the price tag issues.

edit: Not the biggest issue, but please also give us a way to toggle the spin and sparkles off for swapping outfits. It’s great to incorporate for some events and performances, but won’t fit every situation and I worry that more lag intensive rp events could make this difficult to account for.

I’d hope these prices are mistakes, otherwise this is just nutty and out of touch.

Why should it go from 600-1k to transmog a set on live, to around 5k to tmog all slots? The former was already egregious to people because transmog and repair costs were scaling with item ilvl. The latter is tone deaf by putting a flat, inflated cost on each slot, and removing any choice to still use the old system. I can’t understate how many people I know that were excited for these changes, expecting things would be more affordable, and to then be hit with the current beta prices and issues.

Even with two free outfit slots, this is awful for the roleplay community and too rigid of a system.

Running a story campaign with a group, and you’re playing an npc/villain for it? Expect to pay 5k+ to save an npc/villain set to use.
Doing a performance/act and need to change outfits? Same deal, including making space by buying more slots or saving over an existing slot.
I can make sets like these with items on live for less, and I also don’t need to update them for as long as I have the items, so why should this system inflate that price by over double between the slot and outfit slot save tax, and then also kill the option to transmog by item?

Rigidity examples:
On live, if I roleplay a fisherman catching a fish, I can be silly and immersive by having a fishing pole weapon, and any of the fish weapons/OH tmogged to a weapon to switch to and show I’ve caught a fish in character. Swap the items into the slot. Done.

On beta, I have to get around the system in different ways.
Option 1: Have a set that shows my equipped item for my weapon slot, and have both a fishing pole weapon (easy), and one of the fish weapons to swap to.
Option 2: Don’t have the fish item in your bags, but in your collections? Make an outfit set with your fishing pole equipped and equipment slot visible. Make the same outfit set but with the fish mogged over the weapon slot. This will currently run you about 600 gold. You’ll also do a spin and sparkle when you change outfits, which is nice and cute for some things. But immersion breaking for others. No way to toggle that off currently.
Option 3: Outfits can be completely toggled off to show your equipped gear. You can make a case use for this, but I didn’t get to check this quite yet.

This can be applied to multiple situations, and is exacerbated by the current pricing. Now, I doubt that the pricing will stay as it is, given that freshly new toons also have the flat 4-5k gold cost regardless of level. However, losing the option to transmog by item for the sake of transmogging by item slot is a ridiculous mistake. I hope more roleplayers provide feedback on this before it goes live.

The gold price reduction is good to hear.

I wasn’t sure what I would do with 20 outfit slots, but there must have been a big outcry if the cap is increasing to 50. How many transmog sets do y’all have set up?

It’s great you’rereducing the price of slots and saving outfits. I’m especially thankful you’re increasing the number of saved outfits to 50.

I use BetterWardrobe now to save more than 20 outfits (or whatever the current limit is), but it has some issues.

This is wonderful! The new pricing feels much more reasonable, and making it warband-wide with 50 outfit slots instead of 20 is an incredible improvement. The updated transmog system looks fantastic. The only thing I hope for now is the option to choose the Elf form instead of the Dragon form for Dracthyr on the character selection screen, because the Dragon form doesn’t display transmogs — so the outfit we create won’t appear there.

Appreciate the update, and added outfit slots.

Will reserve further comments until it’s in beta.

This!! I like the spin and sparkles, but I agree that some of the player base (RPer or not) might not care for the animation for that toon. Lag is also a good point on popular servers or people with and older computer. Also I think after unlocking the outfit slot it shouldn’t cost us to change the slot around. I bought it, why am I being charged to swap things around?
